GMRS/FRS is UHF and maybe not what you want in the middle of a lake… in any case, whatever you use, you should somehow make sure that the emergency services are monitoring it and that they can hear you.

I just meant I wouldn’t rely on a two way radio without a repeater.

An old boaters rule of thumb is 1/3 fuel outbound, 1/3 inbound and 1/3 in reserve. With a small boat I’m guessing your range is not to the far end of the lake.

It includes something called “Emergency SOS via satellite”, which allows you to send emergency messages via satellite when cell or WiFi service is unavailable. The service is free for the first two years (though the cost after that is not specified).

Yes, the phone costs at least $800, but if you need a new phone anyhow, you may not need to pay separately for an emergency radio.
