**Even Now** Barry Manilow

“Even now…
When I have come so far
I wonder where you are…”

Sheesh! Here I tuned in to see if I could learn what **Nero** was playing that fateful day in Rome. Oh, well. Carry on.

Well, for torch songs, you can hardly beat a great deal of C&W…

“What She’s Doing Now” - Garth Brooks (a true torch song…check out the lyrics, if you just can’t stand the c&w sound)

“The Grand Tour” - George Jones (a lot of George’s stuff is like that)

“A Good Year for the Roses” - Alan Jackson/George Jones

Did you mean _Summertime_ or that song that Snoopy sings?

–Ducking and Running–

(couldn’t resist :D)

Suppertime
Supper time
I should set the table
'Cause it’s supper time
Somehow I’m not able
‘Cause that man o’mine
Ain’t comin’ home no more

Supper time
Kids will soon be yellin’
For their supper time
How’ll I keep from tellin’
Them that man o’mine
Ain’t comin’ home no more?

How’ll I keep explainin’ when they ask me where he’s gone?
How’ll I keep from cryin’ when I bring their supper on?
How can I remind them to pray at their humble board?
How can I be thankful when they start to thank the Lord
Lord!

Supper time
I should set the table
'Cause it’s supper time
Somehow I’m not able
‘Cause that man o’mine
Ain’t comin’ home no more

I guess my face is red! Forgot about that one!
(And of course _Summertime_ is by Gershwin)

:smack:

(but you might want to avoid posting the full lyrics per mod request)

LMLYP by **Ween**. Hey, she won’t let him lick her pussy- that’s unrequited.

l hold this letter in my hand
A plea of petition, a kind of prayer
I hope it does as I have planned
Losing her again is more than I can bear

I kiss the cold white envelope
Press my lips against her name
Two hundred words, we live in hope
The sky hangs heavy with rain

Love letter, love letter
Go get her, go get her
Love letter, love letter
Go tell her, go tell her

From [Love Letter]([http://www.angelindevilsboots.org/music/lyrics/nc/secretlifeofthelovesong.html#Love](http://www.angelindevilsboots.org/music/lyrics/nc/secretlifeofthelovesong.html#Love) Letter) by Nick Cave.

Absolutely heartbreaking.

**Nina Simone** has several doozies:

**Lilac Wine**
**Don’t Smoke in Bed**
**Black is the Colour of My True Love’s Hair**
**Ne Me Quitte Pas** (Written by Jacques Brel. Especially rewarding if you speak French. Rod McKuen’s translation “If You Go Away” - famous versions by Shirley Bassey, Eartha Kitt, and others - is interesting but not nearly as searing. Nina’s French is somewhat accented but her delivery is so overwhelming that it’s one of the definitive performances.)

I agree with the point about style over substance - **Dietrich** did a German translation of “Where Have All the Flowers Gone” ( **Sag mir wo die blumen sind?** ) that is devastating.

**Sons Of** - Gorgeous: **Judy Collins** performs another McKuen translation of a Brel (“Fils de”) original, but this time I prefer the translation.

**Sinead O’Connor** is good for several, especially **The Last Day of Our Acquaintance** and **Nothing Compares 2 U**.
