Today’s quiz: What goes "creak, crack, pop-pop-pop, ping, crack, crunch, **KBLONNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGG!"?** If you guessed a grand piano in a plywood storage crate falling thirty feet to a concrete floor, you win! The uncomfortable questions now being asked where DH works are: Why was a grand piano in a storage vault instead of on the steel warehouse racking where the other pianos are kept? Why didn’t anyone tell us there was such a grossly overweight thing in the vault? How much will it cost us to reimburse customers for the paino and all of the other stuff in vaults that also got crushed when the piano came down? When are we going to tell these people that their stuff in storage has been destroyed? Hopefully it was just a run-of-the-mill grand piano and not something like a Bösendorfer or a priceless Steinway. “Naht ehnee mehr!” Nothing else sounds quite like a falling piano. :smack: ---

Nothing like starting one’s day with a close encounter with a deer. Fortunately, not \*too \* close. I caught it out of the corner of my eye on a dark stretch of road, so I hit the brakes and the horn, and the doe looked up and almost simultaneously ran across my lane and to the side of the road where, I think, there was another deer. I probably saved her life because the car coming at her in the other lane was hell-bent-for-leather, whatever the heck that means. My day ended just a little bit late. I’m working with Idiot Stupidhead again (isn’t that what I called him??) and I’m being very Zen about it. I just mock him in my mind and refrain from commenting most of the time. But he’s made me late leaving work for the last 3 days. We’re going out to get supper - no idea what, but I don’t feel like cooking and we’re both starving, so there ya go. I weep for the piano, although I bet it was kinda funny at the time… ---

Oh, my heavens, **gotti**! :eek: …but I still have to admit it would have been kinda cool to be there. 😉 In a similar vein, I remember one day a few years ago approaching the top of the escalator at the Wheaton Metro station. Now, this station has the [longest escalators in the western hemisphere](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheaton_(Washington_Metro)), the equivalent of eight stories in total height. Suddenly there was a crash…crash crash bang boom crash crack crash…that went on for about 30 seconds. Some poor schlub had been trying to take a computer CPU down the escalator on a luggage rack. Except about halfway down, it fell off. It ended up at the bottom in pieces no larger than about 3" square. As we all got off the escalator behind him at the bottom, each person solemnly picked up a piece of the shattered computer and handed it to him. The look on his face was, to be honest, priceless – I cannot _imagine_ how awful he must have felt, but we all got on the train and laughed all the way downtown nevertheless. The station has a perfectly good elevator, I might add. Can you imagine how he told his boss what he had just done? 😃 I just ran a few errands, and it took me _three_ stores to find a bar mitzvah card. Good grief! It’s not like there are no Jews living in this area, either. I have no idea why they were in such short supply. Needless to say, I was PO’d. All I can say is my friend, the bar mitzvah boy’s mom, better have made lots of her _incredibly_ delicious [noodle kugel](http://www.cooks.com/rec/doc/0,1822,153171-230201,00.html) as my reward!! Last but not least, I got a bill in the mail today – my pain doctor runs an occasional routine pee test to make sure I’m not abusing my meds. Except apparently they didn’t tell the company that ran the test about my insurance, so I got the bill with a request to either pay or provide insurance info. Man, I had NO idea a pee test could cost that much – $836.00! Someone somewhere is SO cleaning up from all the mandatory drug testing insisted on by so many big companies today. Too bad it’s not me. ☹ Back to the congressional [del]drivel[/del] boredom. ---

It’s not sticking, but there’s been little bits of white stuff falling all afternoon! It’s right about freezing now, but it’s so light that I don’t think it’s going to stick much unless it picks up more overnight. This is fine, since in the morning I drop off my car to get my snow tires installed. My credit card company will be simply delighted. Note to large enthusiastic yellow labs: please, please please do not take a giant crap in the cage after your bath. That makes you get another partial bath because you _stepped in it_, and makes me clean up your giant disgusting stinky crap, which is on a cage floor so I have to get way closer to it than anybody sane would ever want to. Ewwwwwwwwwwww! (The dog puke yesterday was worse, though.) Such fun, animals. I wish I’d been there to see the falling piano. It sounds like a surreal experience! ---

Halloooo. I went to work at 0500 and was sent home at 11AM. I went foraging for foodstuffs, procured bookstuff for my eyes and brain, and spent the afternoon snoozing and reading…and avoiding laundry. It must be folded. And I must do homework now. It can’t decide out there if it wants to send us all to Oz (some tornado watches in effect), rain, shine or I don’t know what all. Strange weather. You think it’s hot, so you drag the shorts back out of the closet, only to be chilled the next hour by blustery winds. Humid as hell–was there a hurricane somewhere south that I didn’t pay attention to? It feels like remnants of a hurricane. VERY odd for October. Dinner in oven. ---

**rosie** , I know, I know. That’s one reason I decided not to look into some sort of veterinary sort of job – tech or nurse, not vet – because I know I’d be dealing with some really gross stuff all the time. I don’t know how they do it, and the same goes for human medical people. The dog didn’t seem to care, he was perfectly happy while tracking dog crap around the back room. Anybody here who has ever known a big dumb happy lab knows what I mean, he was just happy to be alive! And lucky to be, too, after _that_. It’s still trying to snow; rather, it’s snowing, but the flakes tend to range from nearly microscopic to tiny. Even I don’t count this as _really_ snowing. It did really snow for about fifteen minutes earlier today, but then it lightened up again. Oh well. ---

My good-for-nothing hunting partner (the one that almost got his leg blown off last weekend) just emailed and said he didn’t know if he was going to make it this weekend, but if he did we wouldn’t leave at 6AM tomorrow like planned because he has to get a license and works late tonight and he has to pick up the minister he invited and whine whine whine. Jerk. I’d go alone, but that would guarantee I got a huge ol’ bull and there’d be no way I could hump it out all by my little ol’ self. If I wait around for him, all the good spots’ll be taken 'cause you can’t just stroll up the night before opening day and expect to get anywhere near a trailhead. You were subjected to that because I didn’t know where else to put it. ---

**Bobo** , you put it here because that’s where it belongs. Now you know how the MMP works. We went for Bad Chinese - they have the BEST fried shrimpses there! Then we came home and I adjourned to the basement for a little while. I finished the two caffeine mugs, and I decorated 2 doggies - one in red and black for a special order 😉 and the other is blue all over with a white tail and white bones all over. His eyes are closed, too. He’s bone tired. 😃 I have 1 more dog, 3 cats, and 7 mugs to finish. I don’t know if I’ll fit it all in the kiln, but I know which ones will be kept out if necessary. Glad tomorrow is Friday. Hope Idiot Stupidhead doesn’t delay my departure at the end of the day. I’ve got to find a suitcase and decide which 4 business-like outfits to take and what comfy clothes will fit in the case also. I’ve got a novel, and I want to get a new sudoku book for on the plane. I also need some new knee-highs - my old ones are shot - they fall to my ankles for no apparent reason. We don’t have any MMPers in Miami, do we? That would be reason enough to leave my hotel room one evening. But honestly, I’m looking forward to alone time with my book and some puzzles and control of the remote. That’s livin’!! 😃 ---

Falling pianos! As if groping weren’t enough. 😉 That Guy was nice enough to drive me to a record player repair shop today. The damn thing is going to cost me more money to repair it than what I gave for it, but the dude there said that it’s a good player so it would be worth fixing. So I guess I’m fixing it.
