> My favorite is when he rigged the piano to explode when a certain key is played. Then the RR runs up, sees the piano, and tries to play the sheet music on the piano. He keeps messing up the last note, which makes YEC cringe from the dissonance. YEC walks up and pushes RR out of the way. YEC then plays the tune correctly.

I’m such a geek that I know the name of the song, without having to look it up! It’s “Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms”.

Well… to the best of my ability, which is to say, rather poorly. But I try.

The three bears mutilating Father’s Day is one of my favorites, and not just because Stan Freberg is genius as Junyer Bear.

“Ma, Pa is awfully still. I poked him and I poked him, but he wouldn’t move.”

At which point Ma reverently covers the father’s day cake she’s been working on with a white dishcloth.

The humor in most of them were not meant for children - the references were straight out of current events - while watching the one with Bugs and the organ grinder’s monkey. that ends with the ‘monkey’s uncle’, a gorilla, bullying apartment residents into throwin there cash down, where the monkey was operating the music box, and Bugs was tallying the take -
I had to ask my parents who “Petrillo” was

or in one with Yosemite Sam, ends with Bugs on a train, riding safely away from Sam, suddenly jumping off and saying something about “no unnecessary travel” which was a decree during WWII - kids watching these in the 60’s wouldn’t have gotten that - probably not even kids in the 40s watching these before a Buck Rogers serial

I had a brother 6 years older to clue me in on the WWII jokes and my Dad would watch with me at times. I generally got and enjoyed all the jokes. Plus a steady diet of WWII war movies. I grew up watching Looney tunes and Star Trek every day. Some good things to being a kid in the 70’s.

“Wile E. Coyote. Super Genius.”

“My name is Elmer J. Fudd, millionaire. I own a mansion and a yacht.”

My all-time favorite is “From Hare To Heir” (or vice versa), where Bugs will give Yosemite Sam a million pounds if he can keep from losing his temper. The fake swearing by Mel Blanc in this cartoon makes me laugh until I cry, 40-something years since I first saw it .

Oh my god, I can’t breathe from all the images this thread’s conjured up.

Too many of my favorites have already been said, so I’ll just add on another for the one with the little gremlin at the airfield. The final joke of the toon, which I should be far, far too young to understand:

“Sorry, folks. We ran outta gas.” (I love the gremlin’s quavery little voice!)
“Yeah. You know how it is with these A cards.”

> That’s one of my favorites too. It’s called “Feed the Kitty”. The bulldog’s name was Marc Anthony.

_Monsters, Inc._ paid tribute to that short with Sully, the kid, and a trash compactor standing in for Marc Anthony, the kitty, and the oven.

My favourite line from that one is “Operator! Operator! We’ve been . . . disconnected.” Although “Shaddup, shudding-up” runs a close second.

One that I remember seeing, but which will probably never be shown again because of its un-PC nature, involves the delivery of a (very small) moose to the house of an oil-rich Indian who wants to do some hunting. During the course of the film, the Indian manages to plunk arrows into his butler’s butt several times. Each time, the butler returns it, saying “Your arrow, sir!”, with an increasingly angry tone of voice. At the end, moose still unpunctured, the butler turns the Indian over his knee and spanks him with the arrow, saying “Your arrow, sir! And **my** resignation!”

Saturday I was talking to my dad for his birthday, and I wound up quoting the “Do you want to shoot me now, or shoot me later?” scene to him. I think I need to send him some Looney Tunes this year.

[Nitpick]You left out the fact the Indian was of short stature as well (which made him a comic match with the very small moose). Also, the butler’s “ **my** resignation” line came after after a cannonball landed on his head when the Indian shot a cannon at the moose and missed. The butler spanked the Indian later in the cartoon when his now ex-employer inadvertently shot the airplane the butler was leaving on out of the sky.[/Nitpick]

I’m surprised I remember so much of that cartoon since I haven’t seen it in years and thought it was, at best, only mildly funny.

The Indian also hit his butler with a tomahawk. While returning it, the butler referred to it by its “proper” name: “Your thomashawk, sir.”

Short’s title was _The Oily American_. The rich Indian is named Moe Hican.

In addition to all the classics already mentioned (the OP started with my all time favorite) there was the one where Elmer went crazy and believed he was a rabbit. Psychiatrists sent to commit him captured Bugs instead and “cured” him into believing he was Elmer. I loved hearing Mel Blanc doing Bugs Bunny sounding like Elmer Fudd.

From **Baseball Bugs** :

_One, two, three strikes! Yer out! One, two, three strikes! Yer out! One, two, three strikes! Yer out!_

I still call a really good change-up a “Bugs Bunny slowball.”

Why in the world are we no longer making something of this high quality? We have writers, we have voices, we have animation. Why can’t someone produce more Looney Tunes?
