Link to another discussion of this very topic. They can’t decide on a definitive answer either. Can Cecil?
The timing of that thread would indicate to me that it might have been started by one of the guys I was talking to here on the base. He said he would post a question somewhere. This must be it I think.
I have already asked Cecil the day before I started the thread here.
Actually, there are a large number of hang gliding sites opening due to the advancement of aerotow technology. Anyone with a large field can do it. Chalkpit, you’re right - we’re VERY well off, as we are with most things. The speed differential would be too great with an airplane, that’s why we use ultralights. You need something with a low stall speed…30 or 35 mph. The VNE on a hang glider is typically 54 mph, it’s the same on just about every make & model in this country…I think it’s as fast as they’ll test them, though they’re actually capable of higher speeds.
Nah, it was me
LOL !
Ok, he musta posted elsewhere…pprune perhaps
tks for helping anyhoo
I thought this was worth a bump.
Five’ll get you ten TPTB don’t agree with you. :dubious:
Fair enough.
There aren’t many questions left so totally unresolved on this forum.
Whatever. :o
Whoa! That is a BIG Plane to roll!
Heh…your pic is of an A-model. The one that rolled was a C-141B , which was lengthened with plugs in the fuselage fore and aft of the wings.
What is it with the zombie threads recently?
Oh, and wasn’t there some B-52 that did loops at airshows (and eventually crashed)?
The B-52 airshow crash occurred during a practice for an airshow. The pilot in command had “pushed the envelope” many times before and several people in the squadron refused to fly with him. In fact the person who was to fly as his copilot that day refused to fly, and the wing DO (a full-bird Colonel) took his place.
When he rolled just a little too far and crashed there were very few pilots at the base that were surprised. It became a case study in the Air Force on effective and ineffective leadership and management skills.
No loops, though!
And I apologize for two posts in this zombie thread…
Well, here’s the rules in General Questions.
If you or anyone comes up with new information about an old thread, please feel free to post it to that thread. That’s a legitimate thing.
Just “bumping” the thread from years ago is NOT a legitimate thing.
Closed. But I’ll be glad to reopen this if anyone can supply me with new factual info.
