I can’t speak for the writer of the third line, but I assure you I was well aware of the (type of) climax you had envisaged, and was moving things along in that direction. I’d be pretty sure that the writer of the third line was also mindful of your drift but was also aware that a foundation ‘story’ needs to be laid before a final punchline. Actually, I thought it turned out pretty well - better than most things designed by a committee. ---

Orson is quite correct. The foundation must be laid.
