It gave Jack the upper hand. Also, Ethan likely had a late night swimming up and beating the ever loving snot out of Scott. Might not have gotten a lot of sleep watching or trying to dodge the castaways. Also, when Ethan took out Jack he had just fallen down a hill side and wasn’t expecting a fight. In the end, Ethan was just strong and evil. Not super strong and evil. ---

Once again the island furnishes someone with the chance to do what they couldn’t do IRL-- Charlie takes care of a woman. But I don’t understand the business about not telling Claire about Ethan’s demand. How could you organize everyone and NOT let Claire know what was going on. After all, it’s her they are trying to protect… ---

The other thing that suggests that Ethan wasn’t alone is the way Charlie was strung up. I think it wouldn’t be possible for one person to do that. ---

There’s a monster on the island that eats pilots and tosses trees around like they were lincoln logs. There’s also a crazed french woman on the island and a group of other people who kidnapped you and want you back bad enough to kill a castaway every day until they get you. The others have sent a guy named Ethan to do it. He could probably kill all of us without trying hard. Did we mention the polar bears yet? Yeah, there are polar bears in the woods. Now just stay calm. We don’t want to hurt the baby." 😃 ---

The “Gamesters” idea hit me (sorry!) when the **black** rock hit Sayid. _Two_ forces on the island, fighting through the castaways. Black stone, white stone. The “others.” Having two forces at work helps explain a lot of the “inconsistencies” and such. Or, it could just complicate things beyond measure! 😃 ---

Delenn—I mean the French woman, also spoke of “Them.” I’m very impressed, by the way, at how _sick and tired_ I am of that mother f-ing “You All Everybody” song. They’ve done an excellent job making it into the overplayed one-hit wonder, despite the fact that the audience has only heard it a handful of times. When it was playing on the juke box in Charlie’s flashback, before I’d even consciously recognized it I found myself thinking, “Jeezus H. Christ, not _that song_ again!!!” They did a fine job coming up with a song that’s annoying as hell, and then I think that almost every time we hear it, it’s just the chorus. ---

Sad to say, I’m getting an X-Files vibe here as well. I don’t think anyone involved with the show knows for sure what’s going on. Can you imagine how pissed we’d all be if that happened? ::shudder:: ---
