Here’s the only preexisting photo of a [Marvin Candle](http://baerana.com/100_1168.jpg) on the internet. Right next to a… 😉

> If you convert every number (from 1 on) to binary, and then count the number of “1’s”, and create a set of numbers that yield a prime number of “1’s”, you get this sequence:(Every one of Hurley’s numbers, in sequence, _except_ for 42, which is the odd one out, with a non-prime number of 1’s in binary notation.

**Larry** , maybe I’m just not understanding your logic, but 15 in binary doesn’t give you a prime number of ones. It gives you four of them: 1111. And 42 does give you a prime number, because it’s 101010 in binary, as far as Google Calculator is telling me.

But then, math was never my strongest subject. Can you explain what you’re going for here?

He meant non-primes. There’s a post somewhere in this thread with the correction.

As mentioned upthread, there was a brain fart involved and I set it down backwards. Reverse prime and non-prime. Non-prime number of 1s in binary conversion from 1 to x gives you the sequence:

```auto
1, 2, **4, 8, 15, 16, 23,** 27, 29, 30...
```

42 is the odd one out with a prime number of 1s.

Again, sorry for be ass-backwards with that. I got confuzzled.

Thanks, I must have missed the correction somehow.

I spent a week trying to get on that site with no luck. Then stumbled accidently on this alternative:

website:
[http://thedharmainitiative.org/](http://thedharmainitiative.org/)
actual film link:
[http://thedharmainitiative.org/orientation/](http://thedharmainitiative.org/orientation/)
