# Lost 2.4: "Everybody Hates Hugo" (OPEN SPOILERS)

Wouldn’t they have counted Ethan among the original 48? That means there were 42 until Aaron was born.
RE: "Drive Shaft? More like . . . " it was definitely “Suck Shaft” because I remember thinking they were flirting with the censors’ boundaries with that one.
I for one am relieved that this episode wasn’t an extension of the original Charlie/Hurley conversation about stashed food. I feared it would be from the preview - Hurley is fat! And he’s hiding food! Isn’t that hilarious? What they did was much much more interesting.
Oh, and I didn’t get “betrayal” or “anger” from Hurley’s friend’s look. I thought it was just that he was astounded, and starting to look at Hurley in a whole new light, which was the point of the flashbacks.

As sson as it was clear that Ana Lucia et al were from the tail section, I said to my wife “They have had some kind of trouble, otherwise why would they have built a pit covered with a cage?” Not exactly the first thing I would spend the energy to make in a normal survival situation.

I was wondering the same thing about the food, but if they’re getting resupplied, you’d think it would be with new food, not Apollo bars, which were phased out years ago. It’s simpler to assume there are a couple huge rooms that have been emptied of food.
Or he’s been eating polar bears. You’d think the Lostaways would have heard the gunfire, though…

I got betrayal. Hurley has won the lottery and because he is now above working at a fast food joint, he quits.
Because he doesn’t know that, his friend quits. The friend thinks they are quitting together to have some fun. Instead, now he realizes that he is destined to return to paper hats while Hurley will be a multi-millionaire. I think he felt betrayed that Hurley had been making him promise things while withholding the truth.
Plus, consider this: the memories we see are how the characters remember them. Hurley may have been projecting feelings his buddy had later onto that moment.

Did we ever confirm whether the chicken manager was the same guy as Hurley’s boss?
IMDB lists the actor who played Randy only appearing in one episode.
I’m skeptical.

I checked my DVD and compared it to my tape of ep 4… in Locke’s flashback (Walkabout) he had longer hair and sideburns but it’s def the same guy.

And by taking Walt, that brings it back to 42. Coincidence? I think not!!! 🆒
Was anyone else thinking this during the episode: OK, Jeff Probst has just equalized the tribes a bit so they can compete better at the next immunity challenge. 🙂
I’m glad they broguht back Rose. She adds another important dimension to the character profiles. Like Locke, she has faith and good insight into the other characters. But she plays Jesus to Locke’s Machiavelli. When Locke helps people, it’s in order to gain power. When Rose helps people it’s just to help them-- nothing more.

Anyone think there is a chance that the others are zombies? Wasn’t long life one of the experiments. And the boat people were covered in flies (could have just been the light attracting them…)
But, there was silly talk by Hurley and Charlie about Ethan coming back to life. And Ethan always seemed really creepy.
Maybe zombism is the disease that got to CFL’s crew.
Plus,
(please don’t let the fact that I have a spoiler box lead you to believe I am doing anything but talking out of my ass…)
Kelvin is credited on IMDB as the same guy who played the bearded boat dude. According to Desmond, he is dead. Either he faked his death, or he came back to life.
Plus, the producers keep teasing that Boone may return. Sure, it is likely in a flashback, but I have heard producers (and Dopers) speculate it may be on the island. I think the concept of the undead was raised (pun) last season, but given what we now know about the experiments, it seems more probable.

I watched it again and I think you are right…he does list “utopian social systems” as the last thing…it gets a bit jarbled together with the description of Hanso…I guess that’s why I didn’t realize it the first time around. :smack:
