Blah…the tailies had it bad, but not **THAT** bad. The Others grabbed some people while everyone was asleep. Even when being woken from a sound sleep Echo killed two of them with a damned ROCK. Anna Lucia killed one as well, though I can’t remember what weapon they had. Sure, The Others were spooky, having a list, and an infiltrator…but they don’t seem to be something someone with a rock or a baseball bat can’t handle. It’s even more inexcusable when you consider that the Tailies had their own Locke, and Anna Lucia should (supposedly…) be a hell of a lot more capable leader in a combat situation than Jack or even anyone else among the Losties. Oh, and I feel sorry for Sawyer, assuming he wakes up next episode, because you know his first thought upon waking in an infirmary is going to be “Hot damn, we’ve been rescued!”. -Joe ---

Ooh! oooh! New theory on where the flight attendant went as they were all coming over the hill! She’s the only one left on the island who would recognize Locke as having been a cripple before he got to the island. He was out hunting grouse and spotted her, and removed her from the rest of the group to keep his secret! Hey, it makes as much sense as Sayid not shooting Eko in the face… ---

I keep wondering how Bernard ended up in a different section to his wife. He even had a seatmate (in the tree). Why weren’t they sitting together? ---

While we’re nit-picking, didn’t Ana say she was shot with hollow point bullets that penetrated her vest? I’m no ballistics expert, but I think hollow points are very unlikely to pierce a vest. And is Ana Lucia her first name, or first name Ana, last name Lucia? ---

On a different note, has anyone else read the first novel based on the series, _Lost: Endangered Species_ by Cathy Hapka? In this book we learn the startling revelation that … actually there really wasn’t any startling revelations. But for those who want to know: [spoiler]Faith Harrington is one of the survivors from the main group. She’s an American herpatology (snakes) student with a strong sense of enviromentalism. She learned her college mentor had agreed to work with a major corporation on a development deal. Disillusioned, she left college and began hanging around with an enviromental protest group and began dating Owen, a member of this group. Owen arranges for the two of them to join a group protesting the development plan at a conference in Australia. When they are there, Owen arranges for Faith to have a meeting with her professor so they can be reconciled. But Faith is actually being used as a patsy by the group. They plan on poisoning the professor with snake venom and are using Faith to get access to him and to set her up as the apparent killer. Owen feels enough for her that he helps her escape immediate arrest after the poisoning. But Faith turns on him, knocks him out with a blow to the head, and calls the police to tell them the professor was posioned. She then flees Australia without knowing if the professor or Owen are alive or dead. On the island, Faith meets several other already known characters. She also meets George, a real estate developer who was in Australia because his daughter had decided to devote her life to enviromentalism and he had unsuccessfully tried to convince her to return home. George disliked Faith because she reminded him of his daughter’s decision. But in the final chapters, Faith saved George’s life when he was threatened by a venomous snake. The only mildly interesting revelation about the island from the book was Faith observing a Paradise Parrot, a species that was reported extinct since the 1920s.[/spoiler] ---

I actually thought this was a poorly written episode. The Ana Lucia character went from annoying to downright unbelievable. The whole backstory was one giant cliche: A young cop with a heart of gold gives a man a chance in a moment of weakness. He not only shoots her, but the unborn baby she is carrying! She recovers, and vows never to give anyone a chance, ever again! She’s one tough broad now. And her MOM is her Captain! This is a bad movie-of-of-the-week script. And of course, she has to shoot an innocent person on the isle, so the whole sordid triangle can come full circle and she can pay her penance for her loss of faith in humanity. In the meantime, we discover that Jack, being a doctor is not only a golfer, but an arrogant one. And scrappy little Kate challenges him to a playoff, and damned if the little lady isn’t a better golfer than him! By the way, if you were trapped on an island, perhaps forever, would you be shooting golf balls on a frickin’ beach? Or smacking your only golf clubs around in a bunch of rocks? Oh, and Captain… When an officer refuses to ID the man who shot her, you might want to think about keeping an eye on her - she’s up to no good. And if said suspect winds up dead with about a dozen bullet holes in him, you just might want to check the ballistics against your daughter’s gun. The whole character sucks. I didn’t believe for a minute her ranting about keeping Sayid tied up, nor her 11th hour conversion back to sanity. She’s just a poorly written character.
