Seconded-of their current alternatives (the old standby Fig Newtons of course, and Strawberry and Raspberry) I found the Apple kind to be the tastiest and most satisfying. I have no idea why they got rid of it.
Good idea! Now let’s see… Mexican neighborhood… I’m guessing maybe there’s one in Milwaukee, that’s only a 5 hour drive…
(that said… even if I could get those, I wouldn’t, because drinking a 16 ounce bottle of pure sugar simply isn’t on the diet anymore, and hasn’t been in years)
I remember Buttercream Life Savers from when I was five or six. I remember them being absolutely delicious. I also think they stop making them around then.
Healthy Choice used to make a frozen dinner that I loved. It was chicken fingers, gravy, cranberry/green bean stuff, and potatoes. They haven’t made it for years, but I really liked it.
I loved Vault Zero as my caffeine boost of choice, and while it’s still around, I think, it’s really hard to find.
Snyder’s of Hanover used to make New York Reuben flavored pretzel bites that were freakin’ amazing.
You can also get it that way at specialty shops. Pampelmousse on the pedestrian mall, in Salem, MA sells cane sugar Coke in the traditional (small) glass bottles. And so do other places in Salem.
They also sell cane-sugar soda frpom small, local bottlers, like Mercury, which also makes a Cola, along with Lemon-Lime, Cream, Root Beer, and other classics.
Oat bran sourdough pretzels by one of the local snack food companies. First they stopped distributing them and you could get them only at the factory, then they discontinued them. They were good and good for you, so of course nobody bought them.
Back when I ate dairy products, Penn Supreme (ice cream) used to periodically release trial flavors that might or might not become part of the regular lineup.
We actually wrote a letter in support of Blueberry Waffle Cone, but it didn’t make the cut. (Ice cream waffle cone pieces mixed in with blueberry and butter cream.)
I remember them noms!!
Parma violets. I found some online a few years ago but they just weren’t the same. Texan bars, Cherry Coke, square crisps, spangles!!
Heh. A relative of mine manages the Moon Pie General Store in downtown Chattanooga.
For my lost food:
Carnation breakfast bars. They’ve been gone for years, but they were like a candy bar. For breakfast! Yeah…
Please tell us more about hedgehog flavored crisps. Is the flavor just sort of muddy? Did they make broth from actual hedgehogs and spray it on the crisps?
College Inn Chicken ala King in a can. warmed and poured over egg noodles it was the perfect comfort food.
The “Washington” brand line of baking mixes. Especially their spoon bread, which was my Saturday morning ritual. I miss it awful.
It’s bloody hedgehog flavored.
Yes! Now I’m sad.
I miss Campbell’s Cream of Vegetable soup. Not for the soup, but because it made a great sloppy joe when mixed with crumbled ground beef. Chicken Gumbo is almost as good, but not quite. The other cream soups don’t work nearly as well.
I also miss Mallo Cups – chocolate shaped like a cupcake with marshmallow cream filling – but I’m told they’re available on-line.
Pretty sure, but not positive, that it was discontinued in the second half of 2011.
The Seven Up bar.
7 different chocolates in one convenient bar. Cherry, coconut, caramel, fudge, jelly, maple, and Brazil nut centers
My son’s favorite cereal is the yogurt burst Cheerios (vanilla most, 2nd strawberry) and I can’t find either flavor of them lately. He likes Kix and Cookie Crisp ok but not as much.
For the Michigan people only - Towne Club Pop!
Diet Pepsi Twist was my favorite beverage of forever. They briefly brought it back a couple years ago as some sort of tie-in with football season, but then it was gone again.
A while back I interviewed someone for a sales position who previously worked at Pepsi corporate, and I spent an unfortunate amount of time complaining about the discontinuation of Diet Pepsi Twist
These have both been mentioned, but I have been incensed for several years by the lack of Pudding Pops in the world. I get mad every time I call my little son a Puddin’ Pop and I flash on Bill Cosby hawking those things and getting me addicted all through the '80s and now NO PUDDING POPS.
The other one is Apple Newtons, and strawberry too, or whatever other flavors they had. I still buy and eat Fig Newtons, but I really, really miss those apple ones.
Aw, I miss those Lemon Coolers. They tasted of summer. Girl Scouts in California sold something that *looked like * lemon coolers this year, but you got something like a dozen cookies in a $4 box. Nothing like the powder sugar coated bulk box!
I miss Aspen soda (clear, apple flavored) and Jello 1-2-3.
I see moon pies (Entemanns?) on the shelves of stores all the time here in Upstate NY, both chocolate and vanilla glazed. There’s a no-name brand that I’m told tastes like mothballs in the Real Deals dollar store. I’ve seen Quisp cereal in a local grocery store just last month. Stuff is around, just not everywhere and not all the time. They say, ask your grocery store to order whatever, but it’s been months and there’s still no Blue Jolt or Stewart’s Key Lime soda on the shelves, just the same old same old…I’ve been looking for Piel’s Beer, it was here last summer, now it’s disappeared.
