Stand back everyone, I’m going to attempt a WOW.

 (Did Meeko just say he is doing a WOW?!)

INCOMIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!!!

Oh, hey look, this WOW has a card next to it. It says\*\* “In Which we determine if Pede is scum.”\*\*

> [@pedescribe](#):
>
> Confirminiminitated.

A Tad late for entry. OR some last minute Scum lurking?

> [@pedescribe](#):
>
> I seriously don’t get why you all are so hung up on editing.

A post that pede edited for “Irony”. A great built in reason here. -If it wasn’t used to hide the REAL reason.

But, if we start laughing off Editing, before Day 1 even started, where will we be with editing mid game, when town needs to rely on who edits?

> [@pedescribe](#):
>
> Yes. In the [T2](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=481372) game, the players took advantage of a flaw in the moderator’s setup to ensure them the win by mass claiming Day 2. However, the flaw came from the game being an open set-up, which this one is not.

Yeah, we do have to remember that Pede does have some Mod experience. This is a doubled edged sword. I’m not liking how he is using it currently. Thus, I am thinking, presently, that he is scum.

This says nothing of the fact, that he is supporting a Mass Claim. Don’t get me wrong, Claiming has it’s timing. It is no where near right now. IIRC, this comes also before Day 1. Entirely way too soon. **Townies would not be this organized yet**

> [@pedescribe](#):
>
> This seems about right, IMO.

This quote comes as a remark to someone else stating that he is indifferent to a mass claim. – Pede has slipped here, asking for a mass role claim [scummy!], and found a chance to pull back in, unawares.

> [@pedescribe](#):
>
> So, I figure I should say that I have absolutely 0 knowledge of the color. Just for the record.

Same here Pede, but then again, I’m not already trying to start something.
**Townies would have no reason to start something this early.**

I mean, Has there ever been a game where First day vote was NOT Town? That is half the reason why things are slow on the first day. Right?

Early in **most** games (I say “most”, given what I have picked up on Not So Simple Town) scum has a TALL order to remove townies. If scum work hard now, Town has to work hard later. Therefore, Scum need town to work hard later. Pede thinks it is better get started on it now.

> [@pedescribe](#):
>
> This seems to me like a rather transparent attempt to pretend to have no knowledge of the scum.
>
> Vote Chronos

> [@pedescribe](#):
>
> Hmm. Point taken.
>
> Unvote Chronos

**I think we can forgive Pede here, I don’t think we can forget.**

He voted. He then unvoted, but he DID vote. I don’t think the victim of the vote matters all that much. **Townies would not be this organized yet**

Again, pede over-extended, tried to start a bandwagon [Scummy!], and found the chance to pull back in, Again.

* * *

Ok, so there was my first WOW. Wish me luck that I didn’t typo something horrible.

But then again, have I ever edited durring an active Mafia game?

> Chronos, you are a rocket scientist: can you run an analysis like you did in The Crimson Glyph? For x scum, y townies, z names, and j town-aligned names, assume a random claim order, random scum (false) name selection, and random town doc (false) name selection.

As many great computers once said,Insufficient data for meaningful answer. The problem is that, first, folks false-claiming aren’t going to pick their names randomly; they’re going to pick the names that they think are least likely to be duplicated. Second, the Scum can coordinate to at least make sure that they’re not duplicating names among themselves, while the Doctor can’t. Third, if we do find a name conflict, we won’t be able to tell whether it was the Scum making the false claim or the Doctor: We could end up accidentally lynching the Doctor, or letting a Scum go free. Finally, there may well be other power roles besides the Doctor which are implied by the names, which would lead to a need for all of them to hide.

If we ever get to the point, late in the game, where it’s to our advantage to mass-claim roles, then we should of course claim names at the same time. But I don’t think we should do it until then.

> Name claim: (Keep in mind I am a n00b.) This only works if the names are aligned (which **Mahaloth** has confirmed), and we know which is which (per **storyteller** ’s detailed posts). The main risk is that the “Jack” character (doctor) is exposed (if he exists). What if we ask Jack to false-claim a vanilla survivor name? Their risk then becomes the same as a scum false claim, only it’s 3-5 of them and one of us (albeit a powerful us). If _x_ people false claim, we are assured anywhere between _x_ and _x-1_ scum, and possibly our own doc. We get a 50/50 shot at each scum, costing us a possible mislynch for each one, but that works in our favour, no? (1+1 trade, worst case?) Further, if the doc can self-protect, the scum may lose the advantage of a NK – if they gamble and lose, they’ve wasted a night action and we’ve identified our doc. Still a gamble even if the doc can’t self-protect, because the scum don’t know that.

Well, we could have a lot more than just a doctor in this game. A cop, a vigilante, and a governor would not be too out of place. Scrolling down the name list that storyteller posted, I see some fairly suggestive matches. If we do have a meaningfully sized power role contingent, we could accidentally line them all up for the slaughter.

More traditional mafia hunting:

So, what are people thinking? I’ve seen a few light pings on my radar, but nothing quite worth even a day one vote (For example, I’m torn between being suspicious of **pede** for a silly vote and being grateful that he’s kicked things off). We have a fair bit of dialogue at this point.

Neither. I was busy [cleaning up my tabs](http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HomePage) and sleeping.

Yeah, it’s really scary how I’m providing information on what worked last time and what didn’t.

Actually, I didn’t. All I did was answer Ichini’s question. In fact, I am against a mass claim, as I said in that quote of yours:

> [@pedescribe](#):
>
> However, the flaw came from the game being an open set-up, **which this one is not.**

Bolding added for emphasis.

In other words, a mass claim so early probably wouldn’t work.

Um…what? I was agreeing with someone who was hesitant about the idea of a mass claim. How is that “asking for one”?

> [@Meeko](#):
>

> **Townies would have no reason to start something this early.**

Yes they would. We can’t spend all of day one chatting about general strategy. Sooner or later, someone has to throw an accusation, and the earlier the better. Look, with my vote, I’ve inspired at least four on-topic posts, one of which was just dripping with strategy. That is good.

I’m not really beaming up what you’re laying down. Are you saying…that…I’m working now…when I shouldn’t? I think? Could you clarify?

Well, I am tempted to vote for **Meeko** , too, just because that has to be the biggest steaming pile of voteage I think I’ve ever seen (that is, his “case” against **pedescribe** ). But, because it’s so ridiculous, I’m leaning that it’s more likely overeager Town than overeager Scum. I’ll reserve judgment for the time being.

Thanks Story - that was quite enlightening - I gave up with Lost half way through Season 2. And I agree with your point about editing.

Well there are several players in this game that have mod’d other games - are they all scum too?

So you’re argument is that **Pede** appears organised - yet you have organised a fairly smudgey response.

> [@Meeko](#):

Not many - but it does happen - heck last game on FB I was scum - and _almost_ got lynched day 1 – but managed to wiggle out of it at the 11th hour.

“Vote early, vote often” - is a manta often mention on idlemafia - so the fact he voted and unvoted is a null tell – but you seem rather put out by the fact that he actually voted.

I won’t wait for the vote count :
\*\*
Pede, I didn’t vote for you. \*\*

Further, I find it odd, that you are saying I misinterpreted you. Let’s look at this logically.

I am not Pede, there is a certain amount of ““mis-interpretation”” in any comments I will make on Pede. You know what? This is a GIVEN. No one can “mind meld”. There will be room for interpretation. There has to be. That’s what makes this a game.

If I could read what you MEAN then I would be a lot closer to a vote, either by outright voting for you, which, again,\*\* I have not\*\*, OR by reading your comments so perfectly, that I know you are Town. – I would be closer to voting, in the sense that I would not have to waste time looking at you.

But, Then again, you could just be trying a red herring here. **Did I get too close Pede?**

Can someone OMGUS on an OMGUS?

I mean, you really are looking for someone to hang here, aren’t you?

But, apparently, I’m the over eager one here.

Wall of Words. You grab all posts by someone and then offer commentary on them. I think it’s a waste of time generally, since 90% of the posts will be a one word comment. Also, it’s a great thing for scum to do, since it lets them look all helpful and stuff when they’re not really being so. But a lot of people do them, so it’s not really a scum tell per se.

That by the way? One of the worst WOW’s I’ve ever seen. But I wouldn’t read much into it, since it was Meeko doing it. It raises my suspicion of him a little, but not enough to vote.

Nice summary btw Story.

Thanks, **Nanook**.
**Meeko** , the game isn’t all about your playstyle, and you haven’t gotten much negative attention that I can see. Try to let it play out.

Anyway, the validity of **Meeko’s** case in particular notwithstanding, I did believe that **Pedescribe’s** on-and-off-again suspicion was a little sketchy. The **Meeko** retribution vote didn’t make me feel all that much better. It looks to me like a mistaken vote that was quickly rethought, and then opening up a second (let’s face it, non-controversial) front, which seems a reasonable way to deflect.

Not much else to go on at this point, really:

I think the idea is, if I have reason to wonder about another player, it’s reasonable to go look through all of that player’s posts, to try to see what can be determined about that player. And if I’m going to be doing that anyway, it’s hardly any more work at all to share all of my findings with the rest of Town. It’s a way to notice patterns in one person’s posts, that you might not see looking at them mixed in with the other posts (for instance, last game I was able to notice that **Rysto** was focusing his attentions exclusively on one of the two Scum factions, leading me to correctly suspect that he was on the other).

**Meeko** , your play is definitely improving, but it’s still looking pretty Meekish from this point of view. And remember, you’re not a confirmed Townie this time around, and many folks here didn’t see what you were like last game, so don’t be surprised if your playstyle gets you some votes.

And **pede** ’s vote-unvote-vote looks a little suspicious to me, too, but I’m trying to allow for the fact that I’m not impartial: My suspicion is probably at least partly OMGUS-based, so I don’t think it’s worth acting on yet.

Chronos, it’s not that at all.

Apparently, other people can do the exact same thing I am doing, but they cant do it with out FOSsing. I do it, and WAM!.

I don’t have enough fingers for all the FOS ing I want to do.

Ironically, I agree with you on one point Chronos, the past is the past. Not much from that game carries over. 99% of it doesn’t.

But, I will admit now, I did kinda put Mahaloth (as player) in a separate camp simply because I knew him. Not a major fringe benefit, but it did color my opinion of him, that should not have been.
