Lydia, our 16 year old Staff/Pitbull mix get critically ill in the middle of the night and after an ultrasound was done we decided the only humane thing to do would be to let her go. She was the most fucking awesome dog I’ve ever owned and we will miss her forever. Right now I just want to lay down and sleep forever. ---

That sucks. You have my sympathies. When the time comes that I have to put my dog down (hopefully many years away) I’m gonna have to have someone drive me to the vet’s, because I’ll be crying like a baby… ---

☹ My condolences. After getting our first dog (also a pit mix of some sort) I dread the day this will come. Just reading your post is making my eyes well up. At least Lydia led a very long and full life in a happy place, and she gave the same in return. ---

I’m sorry to hear that, Laggard, I just had a puppy pass, and I dread the day that my Slater will find his clearing at the end of the path. Try to look on the bright side, though. 16 years is a long time for a dog to live, and it sounds like you enjoyed her company a lot. It takes a lot of selflessness to care more about the dog’s pain and suffering than your own enjoyment of her company. Good for you for doing the right thing. ---

It’s been a tough two years. Last summer I had open heart surgery and this summer I was diagnosed as type ii diabetic. Now this. The holidays are canceled. I thank you all for your kind words. I miss her so. ---

We set ourselves up for sorrow when we have a beloved pet, as their lives are so much shorter than ours. I’m sorry for your loss Laggard. I’ll give my Nathan and Atilla extra hugs in your dog’s honor. Wouldn’t it be cool if we could have a Doper pet heaven, and have all our dogs and cats get to know each other? ---
