# Lou Grant's "Jewish vibes" controversial on Mary Tyler Moore Show??

Sorry… but a menorah has 9 branches, not 8. The central one often isn’t counted, as it’s the shamash, but there are 9 candles in a fully lit menorah. [See?](http://www.menorah.com/)

Successful, shmucksessful! Folks like Larry the Cable Guy and Andrew Dice Clay are or were also successful, back in the day, but that doesn’t mean I want to claim them either, be they _machers_ or just regular _shlubs_.

(Actually it doesn’t really matter, of course. I guess I’m like Scott Thompson’s character Buddy Cole, who once said: “I still don’t believe Liberace was gay. I just don’t _want_ him to be!”)
