Locally, we’ve had shows on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and of course there will be others tonight. Some of the places are having more than one show. It’s not just the drunk idiots getting carried away.

People absolutely were at 2 am PDT this morning. No one who lives next to me, lucky for them.

I had a frank exchange of views with some idiot neighbors last night over them letting their shitty kids light off screaming bottle rockets and bricks of firecrackers _in the street_ at 10:30PM.

They woke up my teething 10-month-old. I yelled at them from halfway down the block to cut it the fuck out, and that if I heard one more, I was calling the cops.

Mom was like, “What about everybody else in the neighborhood setting them off?”

I said “Fuck them, too.”

If it happens again tonight, I’m calling the cops first, and their landlord second. There are about 6 babies under two years old on this street.

You can pit 'em, but there’s a lot of them around, and it’s not just an American problem. Over here Friday July 1 was Canada day, and the place has been sounding like a war zone since Thursday and most of the weekend. The worst thing here is that this isn’t the only time the morons have an excuse for making noise – Victoria Day, near the end of May, is another occasion for blowing things up. Boom! Yeah, because nothing is more important than setting off loud explosions to celebrate a dowdy 19th century prude that you’ve probably never even heard of.

And I’ll politely disagree that the only thing fireworks do is upset your dog (and the men and women that served your great country). Surely, the fireworks do more than just that, Shirley.

I don’t have flashbacks (well, once. . .sorta), and I like a good fireworks show. It’s the random bang! that makes me jump a little, even after 48 years.

Been in this apartment 7 years now. Have just resigned myself that there are a lot of fireworks in this neighborhood, I’m not going to be at work early tomorrow and there’s really nothing that can be done about it. Not worth getting worked up about.

Just grateful that it really didn’t start up until July 1 this year. In past years it starts in mid-June. It’ll last for the next week, then slow down to intermittent through early August.

Cats are already used to it.

Try living with retired greyhounds. Fireworks=starting guns. Bang! Time to run!!! Up the stairs, down the stairs, over people, around the whole house, Buttercup grabbing a cat and taking her for a wild run.

Thankfully, they were also trained to stay in their chutes until the gates opened so we are able to keep them blanket covered crates on the 4th. Ticks me off when the “celebration” starts early.

The only reason the cats flinch now is because they don’t wantt

I had a cat who was terrified of fireworks (and don’t get me started on thunder storms!). Fireworks on the 4th, they are a tradition and I love them. But it pisses me off when I see people bringing their dogs to fireworks displays, and then the dogs getting all freaked out. WTF, people?!?! ☹

The only reason our cats flinch from the fireworks is because they don’t want to go on Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride.

enough already!

It is illegal to set off fire works larger than a firecracker within county limits so why has it sounded like world war III out there for 4 hours now?

I understand you bought them and want to set them off… you have been firing them for the past week and will continue to do so for the next week but for the love of little green apples please let those of us who have to go to work in the morning get some sleep.

I’m listening to the local emergency scanner (combo police/fire/EMS) and in the last twenty minutes I’ve heard that there are 39 pending illegal fireworks calls, at least two small outside fires, possibly a vehicle fire, and it sounds like some shots fired with no known injuries.

First Fourth in this new house and I’m apparently surrounded by neighbors (nobody so close I could complain to the city about) with illegal fireworks. The laws in Albuquerque are really rather reasonable considering it’s a fairly dense city in the middle of a desert. Nothing higher than 10 feet, nothing outside a 6 ft radius, and nothing louder than a cap gun. There’s plenty of fireworks out there that meet those restrictions without possibly burning something down.

Some of our dogs mind, and some don’t. I don’t object to the fireworks because of that. I just need to work with the dogs and deal with it. I object to them because I live in [del]California[/del] Droughtland, which burns 6 months or more out of the year, and it’s beyond stupid to run around setting off fireworks. Nothing says “good neighbor” like setting the block on fire.

I’m no fan of Fireworks Guy, but theres one thing I’ve been reading and hearing over and over again: that more dogs go missing over the July 4th holiday than any other time of the year because they run away trying to escape the loud noises from fireworks.

Now, I’ve googled, and checked here, and while this same claim is made on many “pet” websites, I have yet to find one scientific study that backs this up. Is there one? Or is this some sort of myth made up by a pet lover that has been accepted as truth and is now plastered all over the place?

Wouldn’t it be kinder to dogs to take them somewhere else? We have friends that suddenly found themselves at ground zero (their village moved the fireworks display to the park near them). So now they bundle the dogs in the car and go visit friends on the night of the 4th.

Glad to say that each year our dogs have coped a little better. They started out freaking, but this year they slept through the apocalypse.

Now, our soldiers are barking out the windows, but they’re better than last year, too.

The fireworks that drove me nuts all weekend were purchased by individuals–not municipalities or organizations. And the fireworks are illegal-- Audible and Aerial fireworks are illegal in this county. Yet the house-shaking booms continue.

So I’m not sure where someone could go that would avoid the fireworks.

I just got annoyed at how they just kept going. Whenever I did fireworks, there were always gaps, with other, less noisy fireworks in the middle. But this time, you’d have one of those fireworks that keeps shooting off things, and then you’d miss a beat, and then another set.

Meh, got to sleep anyways, so I’m not too upset. The dogs didn’t seem to notice. Which was weird, since they barked at every firework on the third (there were only a couple).
