"Love" in the First Grade?

Where does the elementary school belief that girls are gross come from? I thought the female gender was better at hygiene then men.

Well, probably not more hygienic than me. I wash my hands about 30 times a day, refuse to wear a shirt more than once or twice before it is washed, and hardly miss a day of showering. As if that’s not enough, I also scored 77% on a germphobia quiz where most people including Dopers (and including females) scored lower than 20%.

As for the original question, surprisingly I haven’t. My first real “crush” was probably in seventh grade (which was only two years ago for me :p).

Sorry for the unclear wording, and as soon as I was editing it, I lost my five minutes.

What I was trying to say was that I did not develop crushes at such a young age, not that I have not had a crush so far in my life.

I had some kind of puppy love for girls, starting maybe in the 2nd grade, not sure about 1st. Doesn’t seem that unusual. Boys would get teased for liking girls, somewhat, but not enough to shut it down altogether.

I got my very first marriage proposal in 2nd grade, complete with flowers picked from his mom’s garden. Being a slow starter (I don’t recall having any particularly fond feelings toward boys until I was in high school), I turned him down flat. That didn’t stop him from hanging around anyway, until his family moved at the end of the school year. I wonder if he was as persistent later in life?
