What does that mean? At first I thought it was Love Me “Due” as in give me my due in your heart or something like that, but it is “Do.” Little help?

Love me, do. You know I love you.

IOW, Do please go ahead and love me because I love you.

Methinks you’re thinking waayy too hard about it. I am morally opposed to emoticons of any type or I would insert a happy smiley here

Paul McCartney says:

> “You get to the bit where you think, if we’re going to write great philosophy it isn’t worth it. “Love Me Do” was our greatest philosophical song. “Love me do/you know I love you/I’ll always be true/So love me do/Please love me, do.” For it to be simple, and true, means that it’s incredibly simple.”

It’s all about the Beatles’ famously shaggy haircuts. Using “me” for “my” is a well-established Liverpudlianism (that’s Liverpool slang, ya know). And “do” has been a shortened version of “hairdo” since at least the 18th century.

So. “Love me do” = “Love my haircut” = “Don’t reject us for superficial reasons like our ‘crazy’ hair – give us a closer listen and you’ll find that we’re really quite a good band.” It’s a simple, heartrending plea for acceptance – nay, for an embrace – and as Beatlemania demonstrated, it was wildly successful.

Some people write it off as a silly love song, but you’ve always got to look to the next level with those clever Beatles.

I dunno, I always thought that their hair made them look like girls. Did they ever sell any albums?

They had that one hit, “I’m a Believer” that was covered by Smashmouth for the Shrek soundtrack.

But does anyone have any idea what “Love You To” means? Love you to what?

“Love you Do” requires more analysis than “A Whiter shade of Pale”

interrobang–interesting and funny analysis. Others, don’t easily dismiss it. A sign of a good poem is that it can be interpreted as such in different ways 40 years later.

Bizarre or what…I just finished listening to this song right before I opened the thread.

Yes, I felt I had to share.
