Update. I tried to sign up for the 14-day free trial for the Freestyle Libre 2 CGM from Abbott Labs, and it said I didn’t qualify because I don’t have diabetes. How does it know I don’t know diabetes since it never bothered to ask me?
Did you show them the presription from your doctor for the meter? If so, perhaps they contacted your doctor for conformation that you were a diabetic. It’s possible that somewhere in the fine print that gives you access to the free trial allows them to confirm that you met certain qualifications. I would think that being an actual diabetic with a history of issues would be one of them, they want to make long term money off of the people they give these to.
It’s hard enough for diabetics to get access to these things at a reduced cost or free trial. Usually a doctor recommends a diabetic that has to measure multiple times a day in order to maintain control. I was measuring 8 times a day at one time and thought the price was too high to justify the benifit, I lost weight and came off of insulin instead.
They didn’t ask for, and I didn’t give them a prescription from my doctor. They have no access to my medical records AFAIK. I just asked them online exactly why I was declined. Waiting for their response.
I wanna hear this.
(Did you give them your insurance info?)
They told me to contact Customer Care, and I am on the phone with them now. I told them who my medical carrier is. They haven’t told me why I was declined, but said they have “programs” I should be eligible for. I’ve been on hold for 5 minutes waiting with baited breath to hear about these programs. I’m guessing it’s some kind of marketing promotion for diabetics. I have told them multiple times I am not a diabetic. It’s shouldn’t take this long for them to tell me to f-off.
They may have a program for non-diabetics to trial, people who are interested in health information such as yourself. But of course, this is just another market opportunity for them to exploit.
That’s what I’m hoping. I came to them, so they have the opportunity to turn me into a long-term repeat customer. All I’m asking for is a cheap/free trial to make sure it works for me and I like it. The ball is in their court.
So the reason I am not eligible for the Abbott Freestyle free trial is because my medical insurance (Medicare Advantage) doesn’t cover it. Nowhere in their marketing does it say your insurance must pay for their free trial. The best they will do is give me a list of medical suppliers where I can buy their products so I can compare prices. Stay tuned.
Oh, I believe they wouldn’t get any actual money for it from Medicare Advantage. They just want you covered for future needs. IOW you’re not a potential client.
I get all that, by why not be more upfront about it instead of appearing that everyone can get a free trial when there are all these of stipulations. BTW, how do they know I won’t keep buying their products for the next 10 years whether I get diabetes someday or not? All I’m asking for is one free sensor to try out their system. What do they really have to lose?
Some guy, in a back room, who decided what the most likely scenario will be has put limits on who can get one.
I just looked on my insurance. Mine wouldn’t cover one either if I wasn’t diabetic.
Did you PM that guy upthread?
Yes I did. He had insurance so the cost was low to him. I found a place where I could buy a Libre II sensor for under $50. It should work for 14 days with the free app I downloaded on my phone… fingers crossed. I’ll let everyone know if it’s the real deal when I get it, and whether it works the way it’s supposed to.
Yay!
Good luck.
Thanks. I guess there’s really no such thing as a free lunch.
