No idea as to authenticity of the site, though others are certainly crying “spoof!”. Google _News_ only listed the WND and storyhunters links. Further googling yields more, happy hunting. I’ve never used/seen it before, but [this](http://www.popdex.com/c/1065427610) site claims to be an “website popularity index” and lists 20 or so other links from the past two days. ---

**mhendo** –I was being glib, since it’s a pit thread and all. I am well aware of the role of religious charities, and that many conservatives feel that this would be a superior option to governmental assistance. I don’t agree, because I am less than confident that the funds raised through voluntary charity would be sufficient to meet the need, or would be adequately distributed, and because I feel that someone’s access to assistance should not be totally dependent on his religion or his willingness to be preached to. (The church I went to growing up did a lot of charity work in the community, but the actual charity always seemed secondary to the goal of getting people to church and to the Lord. They wouldn’t have denied this. Just my experience.) Maybe if Fundistan is a success, we’ll get to see which approach works better. Let’s not hijack this any further. Let’s get back to making fun of the secessionist fundie lunatics. 🙂 ---

The fundamental (heh) flaw in it (well, one fundamental (heh heh) flaw, among the many dozens) is that once these thousands of people move to North Carolina they believe they are going to unanimously agree how their theocracy should run and what it should look like. Once things don’t go the way of one group’s particular religious vision of paradise, they’ll have no one but each other to call godless heathens. I can see them growing increasingly fractious, each side saying the other doesn’t respect the _true_ authority of the bible and constitution, i.e. their interpretation, and not being any happier there than they are now. I’m still leaning towards thinking it’s a joke, though. It’s a little _too_ loony, even for loonies. ---

They’re based in Tyler. That’s right up the road from me. I’m not at all surprised. This region is also the base of some kind of religious loon who reads all the textbooks and protests loudly if they have anything that’s not a Christian teaching in 'em. ---
