I find that posting to a thread creates a feeling of responsibility to me. I don’t post unless I feel that I can either follow the thread until it drops into obsecura, or if it a factual post that should be hard to misread.
I certainly do not nibble on socks. What do you think I am, some kind of pervert? :dubious:
[/hijack] Sorry. Carry on.
Agreed!
:smack: ooooops…
Same for me.
Please note my post count when I tell you that I never get named in any “list” threads (“How many dopers can you name?” “Which dopers have what expertise?” etc.). My OPs usually quickly sink out of sight. Few of my posts elicit further comments or interaction. However, so what?
I think this is my fourth post as a guest, and it comes at a time when I have to make a decision whether to fork over the money for a membership or be content with lurking. Sometime between now and the fifth of January, I’ll know. I must say that all of the reasons given by others apply to me as well, as there are two other boards which I enjoy but don’t post in very often.
Well, I’m not really a talker in real life either… I listen, digest and then maybe add something in.
I’ve really enjoyed the time I’ve spent lurking here (I believe I first found my way here around mid-2000 and I’ve been lurking since.) I’m certainly a little less ignorant on a variety of topics, thanks largely to GD and GQ.
I suppose I don’t have a really good answer to this question, other than it’s just the way I am.
Plus I tend to forget my password a lot and sadly, find myself too lazy to go through the effort of retrieving it for the purpose of adding two lines to a discussion that’s moving along quite nicely without me.
Some of the best user names are in this thread! Especially puppygod.
When I rarely post it tends to be in IMHO or Cafe Society, and though I’ll read many threads in GQ & the Pit as well I usually have no interest in posting there. Either something has already been answered better than I can say (GQ) or it’s just people being assholes to each other for no reason (the Pit.)
This is the reason I was so hesitant to post. So many people came off as so smart and eloquent, that I felt intimidated.
But then I noticed that some of the posters that seemed smartest to me in some blowhard hyper-intelectual thread would turn around in another thread and spout off some serious backward thinking, non-common sense having, low-class, insecurity-showing drivel.
So let me ask you this Rascal’s Mom…Do you have a sparkling personality? A great sense of the common and humor variety? Passion in your heart about anything? Then please, post and share. Because those qualities are something every community can always use more of.
I just never feel I have anything to add that someone else hasn’t already said better. I wasn’t going to post in this thread for that reason but then thought thats a little silly considering the nature of the thread.
I’m just here to see what Autolycus has to say really.
Lurker here. I tend to read ALL the postings and by the time I’ve gotten to the end, others have already said what I would. so…plus my almost non functioning keyboared makes it difficult to type…(its taken atleast 5 minutes to write this short statement)
I guess I’ll have to post more often to give Eggerhaus a chance of reaching his death goal.
I read this board at work. While it isn’t difficult to find time to read a little during my work day, making the time to post is a little more difficult. I share my computer with up to eight other people. I usually don’t log in because I don’t want someone to make a sheep post under my username. The only reason I’m able to post without risk at this moment is that most of my co-workers have taken vacation time for the holidays.
-Belz (posting and logging out quickly, since a co-worker should be getting here shortly.)
I’m a very quiet person IRL, I’d rather listen than talk. I always have the feeling if I did post, would anyone read it, since when I do speak, people don’t seem to always hear me. (My voice is quiet, too!)
GG, maybe you just need to start every post with a bolded ahem to get folks’ attention.
Basically Im a reader. I post occasionally, in fits and starts, but truth be told, I dont have enough time in my life for my friends and family and hobbies, so posting more would just take time away from that. On the other hand, I read this for hours and hours at a time…occasionally posting on subjects I know about. (both of them actually) or adding things on. Although I love reading about politics, I am too intimidated to post in GD, so posting in the Pit, MPSIMS or IMHO seem safer to me.
Its strange though, since I feel I “know” a lot of regular posters, and yet Im pretty anonymous.
This is exactly why I never post, someone always says the exact reason for whatever.
I came to the boards when Wally died and have probably been reading since on a daily basis yet never post. There are two posts going on in the Pit that have helped me tremendously in the past week, the divorce on Christmas and the man abandoning his wife with the stroke. I have been dealing with both these issues and even though I dont participate, it helps.
Don’t mock me, or I’ll send my minions to drench your carpets thoroughly and shred your slippers into oblivion!
Seriously, thanks.
ahem That sounds like a good idea!
Hi fellow lurkers!
I just prefer to read most of the time. Even on my favorite topics, I often will not post just to say, “me too!”
I’m a quiet person who takes too much time to compose posts. It’s easier to just see what everyone else has to say.
Can’t post. Clowns will get me.
