Incidentally (not because you asked but because someone will want to know): you can’t run the officiall Classic environment on the Intel Macs (it is not Rosetta-compatible), but you can run SheepShaver, a PowerPC-Mac emulator that will run MacOS 8.6 and MacOS 9.0, and therefore yes you can run OS 9 (“classic”) apps on an Intel Mac.
No networking though, at least not yet. (The Windows build of SheepShaver does do networking, as does the Linux version, I believe, so it’s certainly possible down the road)
