In the first scene, Ugarte asks Rick to keep the papers for him. Rick hides them in Sam’s piano. Ugarte is subsequently arrested and killed.
In the final scenes, Rick holds Capt Renault at gunpoint and makes him sign the letters, and fill in the names Mr. and Mrs. Victor Lazlo. They get on the plane for Lisbon, with the letters.
Strasser shows up just as their plane is taking off and tries to call the radio tower. When Rick orders him to put the phone down, he pulls a gun on Rick. Rick shoots him.
