Basically how I feel. I’d prefer that the 2d Amendment have been written more clearly, but I can’t deny that folk who want to own guns have a stronger constitutional basis than - for example - folk like myself who strongly value privacy. All I got is a penumbra!
Personally, i do not feel safer for the knowledge that there are a greater number of weapons around me. And I think it a sad commentary that so many in the US think it desirable and civilized that we resemble the old west, or some 3d world country where open carry is so prevalent. I don’t understand it. Strikes me as weird and somewhat fetishistic. But it is hard to get around the 2d amendment. And I can’t fault them for feeling as strongly about their guns as I do about free speech, due process, and the like.
Actually, you’ll find that most firearm owners and concealed carriers are extremely cautious and conscientious people, we UNDERSTAND the responsibility entailed in being a firearm owner, and the extra level of caution and care required to conceal carry.
The problem is, that idiots, morons and other dimwits that just happen to own firearms, and don’t understand the responsibility needed make “better” press and news stories.
The responsible gun owners are truly a silent majority, don’t judge ALL gun owners by the actions of the moron crew
A daily blog by a concealed carrier would be amazingly boring and tedious…
I guess we should stop carrying cash and our AAA cards when driving? Heck, I’ve not been pulled over since my youthful indiscretions, so there’s no reason to bring that, either.
If I were to list what I could personally do to improve my health, life expectancy, to encourage the society I desire, and to support planetary health, carrying a firearm is WAY down the list of things I could do.
If someone is fit, healthy, happy, living ecologically responsibly, treating others well - heck, you got it nailed down. Go ahead and carry a gun. But IMO a great many (most?) people could do a lot more to ensure their health and life expectancy by eating better, stopping smoking, and exercising more, than carrying a gun.
Chances are excellent that I will never need a gun in the remainder of my life, but I still practice, take defense courses and carry. Why? For me at least it’s the principle of the thing. To quote a slogan: “Whatever isn’t exercised withers away; this includes rights”.
P.S.: and no, this does not increase the danger to others, since I am not a violent maniac who attacks people for slights.
P.S.S., and no, I shouldn’t have to give up carry because some other people will commit crimes with guns. Punish them, not me.
I’ve got no gun in this fight, but you can’t categorically say that all of these are Zero.
People could have noticed, and not said anything. I often make an effort to see who’s carrying in public. It’s not hard to tell, especially in the summer. Of course, AZ is open carry - in that case, it’s even easier!
They could have been scared of you, but aren’t going to let you know, because, well, they’re scared.
They could have cared, and not let you know, because they are polite. I silently judge a lot of people, but never let on, because it isn’t my business.
