No, he was a guest at a wedding being held elsewhere at the club. Don mistook him for a bartender due to his suit and the fact that he was standing behind the bar. Well, the 60s were better than the 30s when their boss was a resident and made 1/3 what a kindergarden teacher did. They’re called “residents” because originally doctors who wanted a speciality (all GPs needed was a one year internship) literally resided in the hospital as low paid apprentices. It was assumed that they were young bachelors without a family to support. ---

Just a guess, but the Texas Medical Center is here in Houston, with some of the finest hospitals in the country. Back then, hospitals with rich patrons were hiring the very best from all over the country–or all over the world. Greg’s colleague is on his way to the big leagues; his wife may be pregnant now because she knows the family’s future is secure. It appears that Greg was not well liked by his superiors & colleagues. Even before a patient died who probably shouldn’t have. ---

When I heard them talking about Texas, I assumed the worst: Texas = boonies, the other doctor isn’t a rising star either. Like Stan from South Park, I learned something today. 🙂 ---
