The person who initially discovered DNA, Klaus O’Brien, was dyslexic. He initially wanted to call it AND (Acid Nucleic D-somethingorother) so you could descrobe human cells as “genes, AND, and other icky stuff” ---

On a book-signing tour in the mid-sixties, science fiction author Philip K. Dick was taken into custody for trying to smuggle a five-gallon bucket of Martian wub DNA over the state line between Arkansas and Missouri. After authorities determined that it was all a big misunderstanding because the stuff in the bucket was really apple-cinnamon-flavored oatmeal, Dick was released. ---

My uncle in Arkansas is a huge Philip K. Dick fan. He’s trying to develop an AI app to forge Dick’s signature on book covers. He says it’s “21st Century moonshine.” ---

Philip K. Dick’s dentist, Cromwell P. Artefact, invented a new method of tooth extraction using superglue and dynamite. He considered it a partial success, but no one else did and his license was revoked. ---

In 2021, filmmaker James Gunn, and his brother, actor Sean Gunn, bought the then-bankrupt rock band Guns N’ Roses. Part of the purchase deal required the band to rename themselves Gunns N’ Roses. ---

The beloved Mr. Peanut mascot was adopted by the Planters Nut Co. back in 1916 following the disastrous ad campaign featuring Zorkon the Destroyer, their previous mascot. Incidentally, it was around this time that Planters also dropped their old slogan, “buy our product or we will hunt you down and KILL you!” ---

Planters, also known as flower holders, were invented in the American midwest in 1952. Before then, flowers (and other plants) could only be grown in the ground. But not in gardens, which weren’t invented until 1966 in Walla Walla, Washington. ---

Shah Ali Bin Bubba was known as Stanley Brian Brooke until 1975, when he traveled to the village of Damthang in western Bhutan. There he met up with former Suzanne Lindsey Harley-Davidson, a swimsuit model-turned-actress-turned-professional shouter. Together they formed a commune called “Here” and began the movement to renounce communal living across the globe. They were continuously underreported and pretty much ignored by all media outlets, despite Bubba doing his chicken dance and Harley-Davidson shouting full-throated at the skies. ---
