The _School of Rock_ curse refers to the fact that over half of the children in the cast of that movie have been arrested on various charges — from minor to felony — since the release of that film, including Miranda Cosgrove. ---

Alan Hale, who played the Skipper on _Gilligan’s Island_, asked the producers to come up with a name for his character. After they did so (giving the character the name Jonas Grumby) he invoked an obscure clause in the standard SAG contract which entitled him to a higher salary per episode because he was now playing a named character. ---

Hale came up with the name “Jonas Grumby” from the Bible story of Jonah and the Whale (suitable for a sailor); and the short story “Billy Grumby,” which was about an inept Navy sailor, and which Hale had read in the “Saturday Evening Post” during the 1950s. ---
