I doubt they are friends. I don’t think that will be a kiss you will ever see. And I thought Christina looked particularly bad, must have been the fake tan. I think Homebrew has a point here. Straight women, especially attractive straight women, should not be allowed to kiss each other unless they have True Lesbianical Intent in doing so. That, or they have a note from a Certified Lesbian saying it’s OK. Say … do ya spoze Christina and Britney kissed Madonna just for the TOASTER?? :eek: ---

I finally saw it yesterday. Count me among the seriously unimpressed. What did strike me was that Christina, while definitely not the world greatest living artist (by far), is a much, much better singer than Britney. And say what you will, I like her new look. ---

I just wonder didn’t anyone see the MTV Movie awards? I mean T.a.T.u. did it first and they did it better. They’re much younger. And a couple hundred teenage girls in underpants kissed each other at the end of the act. Now we’re supposed to be all excited about Madonna pulling an obvious ploy for attention when it’s so old already? Didn’t anyone see that a couple months ago? Or see the t.A.t.U. videos? They’re always groping each other. I dunno, it’s old-hat and she’s just cashing in on it; how could it be shocking when a couple hundred girls just did the same thing on the movie awards? Those Russian girls are famous too. Whatever, it’s been done. ---

Okay, maybe it’s because I’m a heterosexual female, but I honestly didn’t think anything was “shocking” about it. I thought the whole performance was a bit uninteresting. I even commented to hubby that it was a boring opener, and hubby mocked what the preshow people had been saying…“You don’t want to miss this! See this opener! It’s incredible!” blah blah blah. Not that we’re elitists or anything–we _did_ watch the MTV awards without shame. But the whole opening act was just uninspired; Cold Play’s soulful, understated performance was actually more interesting to me. It kinda felt rushed together, and that the kiss was a last minute, “What can we do that’s memorable…ah YES! Women kissing. That always works.” Considering all three of those chicks can dance, I was surprised the “coolest” move only involved their tongues. Apparently it worked for a lot of folks. Well, to each their own. Just think of the kittens once in a while. ---

So now the _Atlanta Journal-Constitution_ has been forced to repent its postage-sized picture of the “[latest and greatest reason to get TiVo](http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=529&ncid=529&e=2&u=/ap/20030901/ap_en_tv/ajc_spears_kiss).” Seems desperately sad to me, even in this day. Sure keeps our minds off of deficits, dead-end jobs and dead soldiers, so ROCK ON!! ---

Yeha, the _Atlanta Journal and Constitution_ apologized for that pic, but not for their generally piss-poor reporting and cozy relationship with the economic big boys in Atlanta and Georgia, and the good-ol-boy network that made stories like the UGA athletic depts’ academic cheating scandal back inthe 80s have to be broken by, IIRC, the Macon Telegraph. Does the phrase “fish wrapper” ring any bells? ---

I haven’t seen the footage, and I could believe that it was staged beforehand, but I don’t think that what you’ve said proves that it was staged. It’s entirely true that they were both facing the audience and that their bodies weren’t touching (at least from the pictures in the links), and I agree that those tidbits hint at staging. However, all three women are very aware of staging and would have no trouble arranging it on the fly. They are all already trying to play to the camera, and if Madonna signaled her intentions well she they could easily have arranged it so that they had a good camera angle without planning it beforehand. (That and it’s the camera person’s job to get a good angle). As for the lack of physical contact, it seems like a natural reaction when straight girls fake a kiss (or when anyone, regardless of their orientation, kisses someone who they aren’t actually interested in). I would think if they planned it ahead of time they would have done a better job by including more physical contact. ---
