OK, so it turns out I do have some time today, but not much before the deadline, so I’ll keep this brief.

>
> I’m not sure why you’re trying to link me with the Holmes claim. They’re completely independent.

Town should never ignore any claim, since Town should always be looking for consistency or the lack thereof. If a person claims vanilla, but later claims something else, they’re a liar, and should be lynched. If someone claims vanilla, but is later caught by a Watcher or Tracker as taking an action, then they are a liar, and should be lynched. If someone claims a power role, but then are shown to somehow be inconsistent with that power role, then they are probably a liar, and should be lynched. Town needs all the information we can get, and claims are a huge amount of information, and thus should never be ignored.

Now, as for this particular game, the argument against early claims is that they make it easier for the Scum to figure out who the power roles are. This argument has not disappeared entirely in this game, but it is weakened, now that we have a claim for what’s presumably a major power role. Given that you are usually willing to claim early despite that argument, and that you are not willing to do so in this game where the argument is weaker, I assume that you have some other reason for not wanting to claim, and the simplest explanation is that you don’t want to claim because you are Scum.

You’ll note that I am not voting for **Dizzy** , the current #1. I understand the case on her, but I’d rather wait to see how she accounts for it. If her account is unsatisfactory, or if she goes for long enough without addressing it, I would vote for her. As it is, though, until then I would prefer to lynch **Pleo** , **Astral** , or **Pizza** , so I’m keeping my votes on them.

Does not compute. Lizzy’s in the lead – she’s my top Scum candidate. Should there be a sudden shift, and the choice end up between Pleo and Astral, I’m happy to have expressed my preference with a vote on Astral.

So far it seems to me that **Silver Jan** has been making moderately helpful posts, a lot of which seem to be about **pizza** , so if one or the other is scum, the remaining one of **Silver Jan** and **pizza** is probably not, to my mind.

I’d kind of summarize her posts as disliking D1 randomness, **pizza** and **sinjin** having null tells so far, thinks **Idle** is townie, and disagrees with the idea of disclosing clues indiscriminately. They all seem a little middle-of-the-road posts, which might make me suspicious if I didn’t think there needed to be a middle of all the players to hide in. I’ll have to look at her more recent posts to see if that’s changed since you asked though.

But keeping votes is not just about the vote record, it’s about showing who you’re actually willing to lynch. Only votes at the end of the Day count. If you didn’t vote for a player, that means you didn’t want them to be lynched. A vote that you unvoted is no better than a finger of suspicion–something that scum love to use because it doesn’t actually risk lynching anyone.

Play the game–put the votes on who you wanted lynched and only keep votes off those you do not want lynched.

If that’s correct, I’m happy where my votes are now. I’d rather see **TexCat** lynched then **Pizza** and I’d change my votes it came down to them. I definitely do not think that **lizzy** or **Astral** are good lynches.

> [@Astral\_Rejection](#):

You have directly stated you’re not commenting on others’ cases… which is what I said you’re doing. You could very well not be _scum_, but what you’re doing makes it hard for me to pin you down one way or the other, and a scum Pleo could be doing that on purpose.
>
> Regardless, I’m swapping my vote preference. You’re making an active effort to play the game now, and your posts since my vote for you have lessened my suspicion as a result. As I said to dizzy, “playing the game” will get me to remove my “not playing the game” vote rationale.

>
> I disagree with your strategy, but only because it makes it harder for me to suss out your motivations. You’ve taken more of a stance on things, and “not quite playing the way I would play” isn’t scummy.

I used “accusation” because you used it to call me suspicious. I don’t really have an argument against your case on me because it’s a pro-town case, that happens to have the wrong conclusion.

My playstyle is not designed to reduce suspicion on myself or even avoid the lynch. It’s purpose is to find scum as best possible before I’m dead.

Yes, that is why I said “Town can simply delay judgement until more information comes out.”.

If you’re going to use a meta-game argument against me, you should better understand what my claim tactic is.

For a long while now, I’ve made soft claims early on Day One or Night Zero. Typically, I claim either to be vanilla or to be a power role. Sometimes (like this game), my statement is more subtle. My claim is only loosely correlated with truth (I think it’s truthful about two-thirds of the time). I accept the risk that town should rightfully lynch me if they discover I’m lying–that is intended to complicate the scum response to my claim.

The purpose is to force scum to deal with me sooner rather than later and perhaps make a mistake, either by killing me when they shouldn’t or not killing me when they should. I recent example where this worked particularly well is a game where scum (hi, **Pizza**!) convinced themselves that I was a vigilante and Night-killed me. As a miller, that was the ideal outcome for town. My initial soft claim was very similar to the one in this game, saying almost nothing.

But even better than trying to meta-game my tactics, you should ignore my behavior in past games and focus on this game.

**DAY TWO**

\*WELL!

When you people chat over appetizers, you REALLY chat over appetizers! And how wonderful that you got your very first lynch mob up and running so efficiently. Lots of gossip and chatter about my little factoids – always fun.

Shame about **dizzymrslizzy** , though; I wonder if she tried to make friends with the ground on the way down, like the whale in the story? She was harmless, I’m sad to say; a bold shot and all, but I’m afraid YOU MISSED US!!! Ah, well. The world won’t miss one more powerless techie.

**dizzymrslizzy** , who was Michael Westcott, and definitely one of Yours (Town), has gone to vanilla Townie heaven. Hashtag Sad face.

All right, let’s move along. Everyone present and accounted for? Say, **Johnny Bravo** seems sad and lonely over there. I wonder if it’s the gunshot wound to the head. Did nobody pick up on that? Somebody clean up and make room for the breakfast cart, will you? Oh, dear – the face looks familiar, doesn’t it. Someone is going to be most cross with someone ELSE in this room.

**Johnny Bravo** , who was Mary Watson, a Mason and one of Yours (Town), has tragically ceased respiratory and circulatory function.

But WAIT. THERE’S MORE!!!

Oh, no, there’s no more. Carry on, won’t you? Day Two begins here.

Magnificently,

M\*

* * *

Day Two begins now, and will end on Wednesday, February 26 at 12:00PM Eastern. All vote counts are now reset to zero. Some of you are waiting on private PMs, which will arrive in the next half hour or so as time permits.
By the way: I want to make entirely clear one key fact – though I am writing the color commentary for the game as if it was composed of a series of letters from Moriarty, this is 100% a color conceit and is not related to any game mechanic. Please read nothing into them other than the identities and alignments of the dead, which can be trusted in all cases.

**Vote Texcat
Vote Astral Rejection**

First of all, I was tempted to vote **Texcat** yesterDay for the seemed slip that she made (that **Silver Jan** had pointed out), but I held back, thinking I could today (as in, today Wednesday) before the game Day was up.

Fast forward to having to visit mom unexpectedly this morning…that didn’t get done. So I should have voted yesterday when I had the chance.

Secondly, with those two being among the top vote getters yesterDay, it stands to reason that the reason **Dizzy** got more votes is that scum possibly tried to save their own.
I’m not including **Pleonast** in this…because I really don’t see the thing or things that everyone else is apparently seeing that is so scummy in **Pleonast** ’s game right now. I was far more pinged on **Texcat** and **AR** than I was on **Pleo**. Nothing about **Pleo’s** posts yesterday went on my radar at all.

Another thing is this: **Pleonast’s** fast moving train of votes that he received seemed (to me, anyway) to build up really fast in a very short amount of time. It stinks of “hurry, let’s get this guy lynched before one of us scum is lynched”…but then, when it started slacking off there in the end, the switch was made to **Dizzy** , who I also thought the votes came fast near the end.

So it’s for these reasons that I find **AR** and **Texcat** more suspicious than the rest, right now. **Texcat** I already had previous suspicions on. **AR** I do mostly because he was one of them not lynched in lieu of sending a Towns person to their grave, but also because I had very minor suspicious of him yesterDay (small enough not to bother saying anything, but that has now grown due to him having been sparred by the fast moving **Pleo** and **Dizzy** trains).

\*\*Idle, \*\*
Dizzy was lynched, in part, because of the atrocious vote that she made on me for the “slip”. Did you at least skim [my case](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=17118576&postcount=445) on her? SilverJan later said that she was mistaken about the slip, but Dizzy never responded to my queries about it. What exactly do you think that my alleged slip was?

Possibly. The problem is that anyone singled out by DB is going to be an attractive target for town because it’s an easy vote that doesn’t require much thought and it’s attractive to scum because it has a veneer of pro-towniness. So did dizzy get the votes because a scum was in the hotseat or did she get railroaded because everyone wanted to look like they were throwing their lot in with DB? I can’t conclude anything yet. But Day 1 is way early for a lot of scum collusion.

What I am curious about is what Johnny did to draw someone’s attention or was it just a lucky shot.

We had five players at risk of being lynched: **Askthepizzaguy** , **Astral Rejection** , **dizzymrslizzy** , **Pleonast** , **TexCat**. This will be a very useful in a few Days when we know more alignments. But for now, these players did not vote for any of the five players at risk: **Diggit Camara** , **Idle Thoughts** , **Johnny Bravo**. **Bravo** is now confirmed town, but I’m not willing to give a pass to the other two.

**vote Diggit Camara** , **vote Idle Thoughts** for taking no stake in the Day One lynch. I’ll remove my vote if they can explain why they believed that none of the five players at risk of being lynched are scum.

I’ll also continue some votes from Day One.

**vote TexCat** for their certain knowledge that **lizzy** ’s clue is true and that it definitely means scum have two clues.

**vote Chronos** until they answer my question (underlined below):

Personally, I’m in favor of letting claimed power roles, especially information-gathering ones, life at least for the first couple of days. She’ll have to post investigation results now, which means if she’s lying, there will be plenty of opportunities to expose her lies.
>
> Where is this coming from? **Daphne** only claimed a name, not an investigative power or any other. It sounds like you are setting up known townie to be lynched.
>

> Are you really willing to lynch our one mod-confirmed townie because their powers (if they have any) don’t match your assumptions?
>
> I’m not willing to make those assumptions. I’m only assuming that Holmes is a mason-type role, possibly a singleton.

Yeah, I saw it. What about it is so earth-shattering?

You even start out by saying “Not much to go on there.”
Then you say she’s being too aggressive. Seems like a weak reason to vote for someone.
Then you point out how she seemed to be bandwagoning on AR…but with MYSELF finding AR kind of suspicious yesterday too, I can’t really fault her for voting.

You said “And remember that scum have double clues.”, but I didn’t see anywhere that this was said at all. That they got BOTH fake and real ones?

But I have to be honest with you, even linking me to somewhere where this was said (which I admit could be the case), my suspicion of you would still be there due to you having been saved from lynch yesterDay.

**Pleonast** , I was assuming that, given that Sherlock Holmes is the most famous detective in history, and given that “detective” is the most common power role in the game of Mafia, that the character named “Sherlock Holmes” in this game would be a detective or something very similar. This seemed so obvious to me that, at the time I made the assumption, I didn’t even realize that it was an assumption at all. That said, however, it is possible that the assumption was in error. If it was, then I shall stand most humbly corrected. I certainly am not trying to plot to get **Daphne Black** lynched, as she is currently the most trustworthy person in the game. It’s conceivable that we will eventually lynch her anyway, but not without at least a counterclaim (and then it would depend on who’s doing the counterclaim, and on what evidence the two claimants can present).

No! What I said was that Dizzy voted Sinjin for being too aggressive. But yes, I agree it’s an extremely poor reason for voting someone.
