Ya know, I had that same thought. Except I didn’t put the Freddy Krueger thing togther. Seems to fit the whole killing in your dreams thing.

His evasion of the simple statement was really odd to me. He says he’s been lurking - ie reading, but not posting. If had been reading he would have read many times that NAF needs a clear statement to test. Several people had already been asked to rephrase their statements in order to make a simple truth or lie.

So, either

Blam knew this and evaded because he is scum or evaded because he needs an angry lynch mob to string him up.

Or Blam has been skimming and missed that part about statement clarity which means he’s been not posting AND not reading. Traditionally that’s a scum trait, but I think Blam is a better playing than that.

Hey, **Blaster Master**. Are you trying to get lynched?

> I think Blam is a PFK called Freddie Kruger who has the power to affect people’s dreams and has to be killed by the townspeople to fulfill his win-condition.

I’m at work at the moment, so only had time to read up, not to do much analysis. But this is the first explanation I see for **Blaster Master** s statement he needs to lurks.

When he made he claim yesterday I checked his posts how they could be related to the people he investigated. I couldn’t find anything (he doesn’t interact with **dotchan** , only mentions **Cookies** (not talking to her directly). Neither dotchan or Cookies voted for him (in case he was lurking to attract a vote to fuel his power).
BlaM seems to imply he needs to lurk to use his power, but that directly conflicts with the ‘please participate’ rule.
His further revelations today don’t suggest anything about his powers needing any specific posting (like **NAF** needs people to make statements). Or that scum could counter them if he posted normally.

His lurking could have gotten him killed with a lynch the lurker and his magic bag / dodging of NAFs investigation, etc did make me feel he was just digging his own grave. **amrussell** s suggestion does make a lot of sense to me.

I’ll look again tonight before the Day ends and change my vote if needed. Last thing I noticed: **Cookies** nightmare scary twin doesn’t have to be Blam, it just needed to be scary for a heart attack. That Cookies didn’t die could also be because a Deadite just wasn’t scared of it. And they felt a connection because they both not town?

So, with ten hours to go, we’ve only got one strong suspect. Intentionally or not, Blam has hijacked the Day’s conversation. More to the point, we only have ten votes.

In fact, Hal having promised that he would be able to play more from Monday this week, I’m quite happy to:

**unvote Rapier42**
**vote Hal Briston**

And so you shall…(hey, four days worth of catching up takes time).

First off, my claim: I am vanilla town.

Now, although the case against **BLaM** is understandable, I don’t buy it – especially in light of his most recent PM quotes. They simply ring true to me – very much unlike the ones **Cookies** posted regarding **Total Lost**. Capitalization aside, that entire paragraph just does not fit in the least bit to me. But what really raises my eyebrows against her is [this post](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=10667722&postcount=107), in which she confirms her dream. In on portion of that post, she states she’s doubtful that **BLaM** is scum, yet in another she says:

> [@ComeToTheDarkSideWeHaveCookies](#):
>
> Yes, BLaM himself could be the hideously evil and scaly one, or one of his scummy brethren.

The whole “one of his scummy brethren” bit just reeks. In one part, he’s probably not scum. Yet by saying “his scummy brethren”, you’re stating that he _is_ scum. Uh-uh…don’t like it.

Vote **ComeToTheDarkSideWeHaveCookies**

And on preview – hey, good job starting a bandwagon rolling! They’re always _so_ telling, aren’t they?

I’m comfortable with my vote. Trying to fit BLaM’s statement into every conceivable alignment or possible manipulation angle is pro-town. Lurking one’s ass off and then bringing a weak vote like that…not really pro-town.

> I’f you’d done what _every single other player has done in a straightforward manner_, no, you woldn’t be badgered on this point. I’m baffled at how you don’t see this. I understand that you’re saying “it’s equivalent to yes”, and in an informal setting, I’d agree with you.
>
> This is not an informal setting. It’s like if you’re on trial for murder, and the judge asks you how you plead. You don’t get to respond, “Well duh, Your Honor.”.

I was asked if I’m town, I said that “my towniness goes without saying”. That is, linguistically equivalent, in any conceivable way to “yes, I am town”. It has a definite, non-ambiguous truth value. What if I’d used a different idiom that is linguistically equivalent to the affirmative? I use them ALL the bloody time, we ALL use them ALL the time. The fact that you all can come up with some twisted way of interpretting it, doesn’t mean that it’s even remotely logical to do so. Anyone, but perhaps a first year ESL student would confuse what that means. Damn, this has completely gotten out of hand. Oh wait, I’m sorry, you might confuse that one too, I meant that this situation has been poorly managed regarding my use of idioms.

> [@](#):
>
> Well, if no one called you on it, then you end up not having to commit to a statement that NAF could use against you.. That didn’t work, but it was worth a try.

Except it was a commitment. It has a definitive truth value. If I’m town, it will be true, and if I’m not, it will be false. You’re, again, forcing your confirmation bias and ignoring common usage of the English language.

> [@](#):
>
> Again, this is simply wrong. NAF has made it clear that he can only evaluate a single sentence. Remember how he got nothing useful on MillitTheFrail’s statement? This has been discussed at length, and there was a clear push to have everyone state “I am town.” clearly and unambiguously, in order to maximize NAF’s claimed power. You can say that it would be dumb as scum to avoid that, but that’s exactly what you did. It’s not terribly good play for town, either, so where are you going with that?

Beside the fact that it is exactly what you’re saying it’s not, I remember that discussion. The whole bloody point is, if I’m scum, I’m hurting my cause by saying it any other way that “I am town”, I would have been a lot more careful about it. I stated it the way I did simply because it’s how I would have answered it because I was more interested in how it reflected on the rest of the post, it because I am town, then obviously, he won’t need to look at **Dotchan** Tomorrow.

The whole point is, you’re saying its not terribly good play for either scum or town and, you’re probably right, so how the hell can you use it to condemn me as scum? Look at the post to which I was responding:

> [@NAF1138](#):
>
> Blam-o, good to see you.
>
> Are you town?
>
> If you are then I don’t need to investigate Dot and will look at Zeriel next.

He’d even already said he wasn’t planning on investigating me Tomorrow if I’d commited to being town. There’s absolutely no reason for me to make any sort of dodgy sort of statement to avoid suspicion. It’s perfectly reasonable to believe that if I was so worried about being investigated then, if I’d simply said “I am town” then I could be reasonably sure that I wouldn’t be.

So fine, call it a bad play, I disagree that it’s anything other than a butchering of English by you in your confirmation bias, but there simply isn’t any reason why I, as scum, would make any deliberate attempt to dodge answering that.

> [@](#):
>
> Dude, I don’t see a townie motivation for your actions. I really don’t. I’ve gone back and re-read what little you’ve contributed, and all I see from your play is extremely self-serving.

Did you not read what my original strategy was and that I’ve had extraordinarily bad luck with my targetting? Hell, **storyteller** himself in my response PM last night even commented on how bad my luck has been.

Did you not read why I targetted **Cookies** last Night or **Dotchan** the Night before? And, screw it, I watched **Pedescribe** Night One, expecting that the Doctor would be self-protecting and that the scum might target him for a kill since he was a confirmed townie. And I was wrong, the scum didn’t target him, but the Doctor did.

Hmm… what if I’d lurked, but those Nights went differently. What if **Pedescribe** had been killed, and I’d seen his killer? What if **Dotchan** was scum, and I knew that? You’re calling me self-serving simply because I haven’t actually produced any results. But when even the bloody moderator comments on how bad my luck is, what the hell am I suppose to do?

> [@](#):
>
> Bwahahahaha! What awesomely circular reasoning. “I’f I’m scum, then I sound like a godfather. But Godfathers don’t target people!” So you’re saying that as Godfather, you couldn’t target her? That argument only holds water if you’re actually confessing to be Godfather. Otherwise, it’s meaningless.
>
> Happy with my vote.

Huh? No, the point is, if I’m the Evil One, why would I be targetting anyone at all? I never said I couldn’t target her because, well, obviously I did. If I am the Godfather type, I wouldn’t have targetted her, or anyone, for that matter. Unless I’m the Godfather, and the last scum left, which just doesn’t make any sense, why would I have targetted her for a kill last Night?

And for that matter, if I’m a scum investigator, why would I have targetted someone who already claimed? If she’s town, then I’d know she was telling the truth, so what would I gain in confirming that she’s actually Ash?

These scenarios for me being scum just don’t make sense. I gave her a nightmare, she dreamed of something that should have given her a heart attack, and it makes sense that she would have dreamed of the evil Ash in that case. Why would I, as scum, target someone who was under suspicion and who had already claimed? Or maybe it makes a hell of a lot more sense that I targetted her for the reasons I stated?

Or, as I said, it was a turn of phrase that was not intended to be an evasion, but was taken that way. The lynch mob has a way of finding any conceivable interpretation, even if it doesn’t fit in line with the evidence at hand.

> [@](#):
>
> Or Blam has been skimming and missed that part about statement clarity which means he’s been not posting AND not reading. Traditionally that’s a scum trait, but I think Blam is a better playing than that.

Beside the fact that I’ve always said I consider accusations of skimming as scum tells to be silly, I didn’t miss it. I explained my use of the term, and I still believe that it is both completely unambiguos and a definitive statement of truth. Obviously, you haven’t read that yet, since I just posted it, but

> [@](#):
>
> Hey, **Blaster Master**. Are you trying to get lynched?

No, I’m not trying to get lynched. But I am extraordinarily frustrated. I’ve been trying my best to use my powers hoping that I’d have SOMETHING to present the town by the time I finally got called for lurking, but they all failed. I’m getting accused in the most ridiculous of ways of dodging a statement that it’s somehow scummy, when there’s absolutely no scum motivation to do it and it’s, at worst, a bad play that anyone could make. And that I’m not being accused of being scum because of color of an ugly person that is evil in a bloody nightmare. What do people expect to show up in nightmares, ponies and rainbows?

The supposition that I might be the Evil One, which I can only guess might be a Godfather type role, just doesn’t jive with why I would target **Cookies** , knowing who she was, and knowing the scum targetted someone else. The supposition that I’m a scum investigator doesn’t make sense, becaue the scum have no reason to investigate someone who already claimed.

There is this Freddy Kreuger accusation, but that’s even more silly. I have so far used one power to kill someone in their dreams, and I’m accused of being him? So now you’re going to suppose there’s TWO serial killers in this game or I’m a jester? If I’m a serial killer, it doesn’t fit, because the only Night with multiple kills is Night One, and I have definitive information about the actions of a power role on that Night, that would confirm I used my watcher power that Night, except I don’t think the Doctor should claim to confirm me. If I’m a jester, why would I wait until the fourth Day? I easily could have come up with some sort of crazy explanation on Day One. And if I WERE trying to get lynched, I easily could have shut up a while ago when I had a massive vote lead. Yeah, umm, that doesn’t make sense either, does it?

No, I didn’t say slip. I said: ‘slip’. There’s a difference. Slip means something that objectively is an accidental reveal of information. ‘Slip’ means it’s subjective–it’s a slip to me, but not to you, and so on.

On BlaM. I can see him being town. I can see him being Freddy Kruger. Both seem somewhat likely, for different reasons. Either way, I have no incentive to vote for him. Just one more note: storyteller said no-one was required to post a certain way. He never said that there weren’t incentives for posting certain ways.

Quick question, actually two:

1)So deadites don’t dream…why did you want to cause a heart attack in Cookies if she doesn’t dream as a deadite.

2)Let’s face it, you are probably going to die toDay. Will you post a full claim of what you did and what you can do before you die?

Blam, I’m not going to keep going around in circles with you. All you’ve done is repeat your old arguments, which hold no water for me. Look at it this way: everyone who commented during that line of questioning was calling for you to be more plain. NOT one person was ok with how you phrased it. So it’s not just you versus me here, it’s you versus everyone else who weighed in. Doesn’t that tell you something?

And as for the Godfather argument, you are the only one to mention it, so I’m not sure how that works as a defense. Why are you defending yourself from Godfather accusations when no one has accused you?

Oh, and why is skimming a scum tell? Because town, in theory, should be scrutinizing and analyzing posts. Scum themselves have no need to do that, and are therefore more likely to miss things. Sure, it could also be a lazy town tell, but it’s most useful when applied to a normally analytical townie who is suddenly missing things.

Oh, and folks, we absolutely cannot fear a jester. Mainly, I don’t storyteller would put one in the game without warning us\*. The whole idea of a jester role is bad mafia, because it actively punishes the town for finding scum. The only reasonable way to include it is to give the town warning and give them the tools to piece it together. Since that didn’t happen, we can’t allow ourselves to be paralyzed by fear. I trust Story to not cripple us that way.

My read of Blam is that if he’s not straight up mafia, he’s a PFK with an arsenal of ways to mess with us, and who knows what his actual WC is? We know he has at least one kill available, and from his post, at least 8 abilities. That seems like way too many for a townie inventor, and more like a PFK with a million ways to achieve a win.

\*I guess it’s possible that there could be a non-exclusive jester, meaning his WC isn’t solo, and doesn’t prevent the town from also winning. If that’s the case, though there’s no real harm in lynching him other than sharing a win. I can live with that.

I concur that \*\*BlaM \*\*should go ahead and post his full role.

So, looking back on it, Hal Briston has exactly four posts, one in each thread. Not only that, but two are devoid of substance. It’s pretty much the textbook case of lurking.
