Nope, not any new information, but instead of assuming scum where trying to protect **MHaye** Day Six, the second analysis is based that they didn’t. We know for sure MHaye didn’t, because he didn’t vote for the runner-ups.

> [@](#):
>
> Suddenly the people that were near the bottom, me and Ed, are at the top, and the people at the top, Natlaw and amrussell, have dropped down. Besides showing that vote analysis can be made to say anything you want it to if you change the parameters around, it strikes me as a situation where his scum buddies were telling him to redo it, since it outted the wrong people and/or cleared people they wanted as lynch targets.

My motivation to redo it is in [this post](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=10721952&postcount=114): **amrussell** and **Millit** reasoned why they thought scum didn’t protect MHaye Day Six. Since scum can post off board Day and Night, if I was scum I would run an analysis like that past them first, wouldn’t you?

> [@](#):
>

> \<snip\>
> Little things, like “misremembering” what I said and stating the exact oppposite, changing the parameters of a vote analysis so that I look like the scummiest of the scummy, etc. Keep it up, and people start buying into what you say.

I’ve ‘ridden your ass’ on Day Five and one post Night Five IIRC, that hardly counts as on and off for several Days. I’m far from the only one to misread or misremember things, for example the votes for uncoutered masons, or since I’m reading JSexton, he misremembers something [here](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=10651830&postcount=135) and a couple post later there is one from [you](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=10651915&postcount=138).
I changed an assumption, because I now think that reflects better what happened Day Six. Do you think scum tried to protect MHaye that Day? Or do you think my first analysis was more accurate? Or some another an idea to improve it or debunk them (besides the meta ‘zomg a revised analysis means you’re scum’)?

> Advocates an Alpha Beta claim, because it wouldn’t do much harm. Except…if she were a power role she’d know how much harm it would do. And I would expect a townsperson to be more cautious in revealing such information.

Except you’re forgetting that at that stage it had already been suggested that if we went ahead with an alpha beta claim, power roles would choose one or the other if they didn’t have alpha beta status. So your saying if I were a power role I’d know how much harm it would do is nonsense. It has no bearing on my role or lack thereof.

> [@](#):
>
> Now, see, this is weird. Why would AH caution against revealing power-role AlphaBeta status when she called for an AlphaBeta claim earlier? Perhaps she already knows. Perhaps the scum, having no AlphaBeta status, suspected the power roles had none either, and thus wanted to push all the vanillas claiming for easy pickings on power roles.

For a start I didn’t call for an alpha beta claim, I simply wasn’t opposed to one. And by the time I said the post you’re quoting it was clear it wasn’t going to happen so of course I didn’t see the point in revealing more information than necessary. It’s one thing for everyone to be involved in a claim but quite another for people to volunteer information right left and centre for no reason or benefit. Something you did at the end of the Day IIRC.

> [@](#):
>
> This is a very hesitant, cautious defense of Macey. The scum would know that macey is pretty much dead by this point. But I’d expect at least some sort of effort to save him, simply because they might get an unexpected curveball. That’s exactly what this looks like–a defense that is weak, and subject to change–something that doesn’t particularly link, but it does plant the idea of confusion. It also has an element of “what the hell are you doing”, which I imagine the scum were saying to him.

Crap - I just thought there was a good chance he wasn’t scum. I’ve played with him numerous times on FB and every single time I wan’t to vote him for being scummy - usually he isn’t. This time he was. I was wrong!

> [@](#):
>
> This always seems to be a common sentiment for scum: ‘Nobody’s acting scummy! Woe is me.’ That way, they can pointedly ignore scummy behaivor from their scum-mates without awkward questions, and later jump on the first badly worded townie statement they see with the excuse, ‘There wasn’t anything else!’

So my saying "I will do a proper reread this evening before voting as this was just done from memory. I don’t have a candidate in mind to vote for just yet which sucks.

Please do something scummier!" is equivalent to ‘Nobody’s acting scummy! Woe is me.’ Way to misinterpret pede! If you’re going to give those motives to everyone having trouble voting in the early part of the game then I guess we all must be scum.

> [@](#):
>
> This case is made of straw and playing cards. The first half is based on the idea that Hawkeyeop has been making a contingency plan on what happens the next time he is scum, and one of his scum buddies bites it very publicly. The second is based on her own theory, which has absolutly no supporting evidence except the Day 2 Color. Such a case would be useful to discredit someone who fingered a scum, no?

Yep it was made up mostly of my belief that hawk was scum and me trying to find evidence to support it. It reminds me of the post I’m replying to here. You’re convinced I’m scum and you’re trying to find evidence to support it. The evidence you have isn’t good, but you’re giving it a good old spin to try and convince everyone.

> [@](#):
>
> This digression may look innocent, but consider that one of the main reasons Chuc got lynched is because JSexton and MHaye (!) ran with her Man-Flu induced theory. It’s easy to set out some random reason for suspecting someone, then have someone else use it to push the lynch. No doubt a misguided townie will help shoulder the burden, who will promptly get the blame after it goes to hell. Look at what happened to JSexton.

That’s just crap. Would you rather I didn’t put forward any ideas in case scum decide to use them to help build bandwagons.

> [@](#):
>
> Textbook smudge. Probably a contingency plan in case NAF didn’t end up dying.

You’re going to have to explain this one - how does saying I think NAF is being truthful a smudge?

> [@](#):
>
> Yup, look who’s under the gun now–JSexton, the guppy in the Chuc hand-off I talked about earlier. Her case seems to be, again, filled with air. JSexton…attacked a PFK. A lot. A scum would have no reason not to, so clearly he must be scum. Not only that, she made the claim that it was “obvious he was PFK” when _she herself_ admitted to being unsure and that she probably would have taken her vote off if she had posted during that lynch.

Yes, I did say I’d have taken my vote off but not to vote BLAM but for Hal. Here’s the post you’re referring to seeing as you obviously didn’t think it worth quoting - post 287 Day 4:

> [@](#):
>
> I was reading the BLAM thing as it happened. I was about to chime in once or twice then someone would say pretty much what I was going to so I was basically a very interested observer.
>
> I’m glad I didn’t change my vote because I’d have advocated letting Blam live an extra Day. I didn’t think he was likely scum (correct). I did think it possible he was pfk but didn’t for a moment think he could be another SK (very incorrect!).
>
> As I have no real suspicion of Hal I decided to keep my vote where it was on Hockey Monkey.

And personally I think my suspicion of JSexton has a lot more going for it than yours on me.

> [@](#):
>
> Here, she has taken the case that lynching a Serial killer was a mislynch because a vig could have gotten him. Horrendous logic, since we don’t know if there’s a serial killer, or if he would have targeted BlaM. Perhaps she was fishing for a vig claim?

I stand by that. Not strongly on the peeker lynch but absolutely on the BLAM lynch. For a start, when BLAM was up for the lynch, although I suspected he was PFK I did not suspect he was a SK as we’d already had one. And isn’t our purpose to find scum? I wasn’t the only person who thought he was PFK and I wasn’t the only one who wanted to wait. And you made a slip there pede - “since we don’t know if there’s a serial killer, or if he would have targeted BLAM”. I think (hope) you meant a vig. Seriously, just because you’re seen as confirmed doesn’t mean you’re right.

And I repeat that voting with the confirmed is a very bad idea unless you actually agree with them!

Continually? Really? How about you quote all the many many times I’ve brought it up. I remember you keep picking off that scab but I let it go as soon as you claimed and I’m pretty sure I only mentioned it twice or three times at most. I’m not even going to go back and look because your argument is simply weak.

But now it’s good enough for a vote. Don’t just take pede’s word for it - go back and read for yourself, in context. It’s clear you haven’t or you wouldn’t be voting.

Ah, but you didn’t say anything about power roles. There were lots of different ideas floating around, that you meant the ‘power-role failsafe’ mass AB claim is not implied.

I was trying to keep the town from enacting a complex and problematic idea which had little gain. The only thing keeping it in the dark would do is obfuscate the general risk/reward analysis for such a claim.

No, but it’s pretty close, especially when you do exactly what I said scum tend to do from that: build a weak case against a loud townie.

No, our purpose is to find all those who would do us harm. A serial killer would do us a lot of harm. And how would waiting have done us any good? You know BlaM–he’s got the tongue of a politician, and he’s twice as slippery (that’s a compliment, honest). He could have easily convinced any vig not named JSexton to wait, and after the message was sent…we probably would have lost him. And then he would have started killing people. And yes. I meant vig.

I absolutly agree with you on this. I haven’t been pushing the ‘voting bloc’ idea, mainly because I’m aware of how badly I’ve messed up so far. But this time, I think I’m right.

Fair enough - I wouldn’t have done so myself but I understand why you did it.

> [@](#):

I can only disagree with this but I repeat I’m nowhere near the only player who’s said they were having difficulty deciding on someone scummy enough to vote for in the early stages of this game.

(second quote moved for ease of explanation)

You say you’ve messed up big time with your previous suspicions. I agree. I also admit I’ve done the same. I know you’re messing up this time as well. I realise your suspicions are coming from a town viewpoint but that doesn’t alter the fact that you’re way off.

Again - we didn’t know BLAM was a serial killer when we lynched him! As for keeping PFKs alive over finding scum - we obviously have different ways of playing the game. Just because I disagree with your views on PFKs doesn’t make me scum.

I’ll check in again before bed (I’m in the UK so that’s in an hour or so). If the votes are still on me I’ll make a claim so you’ve got time to remove them. I’d rather not if I don’t have to though. And before anyone screams I was for mass claiming. I am for it - but for mass claiming not single people claiming under threat of lynch which I don’t see as having any real benefit other than saving someone from being killed who shouldn’t be - i.e. me!

If it looks as though it’ll be between me and JS then I’ll absolutely post it as I think he’s scum so obviously I believe I should live over him. I’m undecided if it’s amrussell.

I’d suggest people get votes in soon even if they’re for me as a three way tie is not a good thing to have this late in the Day.

As I’ve gather some suspicion lately. I thought I’d post a recap of my anti-Scum behavior in this game.

1. Voting for **macey** on Day 1. It’s true, I could have been busing him for credibility. But I had an opportunity to vote elsewhere without garnering much suspicion.

2. Voting for **MHaye**. Yes, I know it was on the second Day that he seemed to be facing a lynch. And yes, I know I took my vote off of him on the previous Day, but so did \*\*Cookies \*\*and **total**. I was trying to vote with them. When it fell apart, I did revert to who I found most suspicious.

3. Helping to compose **Diggit** ’s questions. At that point, had I been Scum, why would I make sure he had the questions written properly to expose a Scum? There’s no way I could have know he was going to expose an already mostly dead Scum. So If I’d been scum, that’s taking a big risk to my side. I could stayed out of that and hoped he got it wrong. Of course, I could have been trying to bus another Scum, eh? I suppose that would make me the most pro-town Scum.

```auto
Does anyone have a current vote count. I don't seem to be able to count lately. I miss Millit's spreadsheet.
Why would your decision to claim depend on who is on the block with you? If you are town, YOU know you are town, and presumably do NOT know the alignment of the other players. Therefore your knowledge that you are town and that you should live would make it irrelevant as to who was on the block with you. It shouldn’t matter if you think the other person is town or scum because as town and knowing your own alignment, makes you 100% sure about yourself. So you saying that it depends on who is going to be in the running with you is suspect to say the least.
> Why would your decision to claim depend on who is on the block with you? If you are town, YOU know you are town, and presumably do NOT know the alignment of the other players. Therefore your knowledge that you are town and that you should live would make it irrelevant as to who was on the block with you. It shouldn’t matter if you think the other person is town or scum because as town and knowing your own alignment, makes you 100% sure about yourself. So you saying that it depends on who is going to be in the running with you is suspect to say the least.
Also, considering what happened day 5, I’m rather worried that we might all move our votes onto a hapless lurker, _again_.
> Off to bed now,
I need to get some sleep, but, well–and I’m risking looking like I’m fishing here–I think you should definitely post your role PM ASAP. Your reluctance to do so until you know who you’re up against only seems sketchy, and your waiting til the last minute so we HAVE to unvote you and take another Day to sort it out seems **MHaye** -esque. At this point, your insinuation that you’re some sort of power role (because you should know well that posting a redshirt role PM means nothing) is the only thing keeping me from voting you instead of **amrussell**. If you are one, I’m sure you’ve bought yourself at least another Day, but you gotta put up or shut up. I don’t dig partial roleclaims, and I’m sure I’m not alone on that one. ( **Blaster Master** hears that one loud and clear!)
I’m exhausted, and most of this Day has been really busy for me, and I may not get back to the boards before Dusk, or else I’d post more on why I’m sticking with **amrussell**. My short answer is to repeat something that someone else said–it seems he’s not really hunting for scum vs. town but rather trying to paint pretty much everyone as scum. As for my accusation that he “outed” **Hockey Monkey** , well, I don’t think outing a Mason is that far out of the question for scum. Why do it? It’s one more way to throw the town off guard. If I were scum and had a couple of good targets already, I’d consider voting for other known power roles just to make them claim. It’s a distraction, for one. It’s annoying at best to the player who wanted to stay hidden for a while longer. Plus, exposing her before killing her could mask the fact that the scum had an investigator. Maybe **MHaye** discovered **HM** , and **amrussell** , being below everyone’s radar at that point, decided to push **HM** a bit. Because, why not? He can always play it off as “confused townie.” Even if it wasn’t on purpose, though, it’s at best a null tell.
Anyway, I was almost convinced to vote **Almost Human** until the power role insinuation; I probably won’t be back for any role claims and thus am going to play it safe and leave my vote here instead of changing it and then having no chance to take it back when she claims. I wish we hadn’t left things until the last minute again…
Oh, and I promise to bring back the spreadsheet, like, tomorrow. It’s been a busy weekend.
You’re right I didn’t go back to the early Days and read everything once more (I find this 1 Day/1 Thread very frustrating - makes it difficult to get an over all picture of the game).
I don’t like the way you hint a power role… looks like one big magic bag to me. What if JSexton and Amrussel did the same? Where would that leave Town?
If you have information Town need to hear to make the “right” lynch toDay - you need to tell us IMO.
Definitely, mine isn’t official either, but I got:
_ **Day Seven** _:
**JSexton** (3): Almost Human, amrussell, Natlaw
**Almost Human** (3): pedescribe, Hockey Monkey, Total Lost
**amrussell** (2): Rapier42, Millit the Frail
**Nanook** (1): dotchan
**special ed** (1): Zeriel
**Natlaw** (1): Nanook
With the note that **brewha** had an invalid vote for amrussell, later unvoted Nanook, but hasn’t revoted amrussell.
Also **Zeriel** FoS’ed AH as well.
If I count right about eight and a half hours till Dusk, so a claim by Almost Human would be late :(.
On my reread of **JSexton** , I didn’t not find much new that wasn’t mentioned before.
What I did notice was that he started his chase of **Blaster Master** before he came out and claimed. In [this post](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=10662357&postcount=36) and later a mention [here](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=10663503&postcount=56), both telling us not to wait for a mod reaction but lynch BlaM ourselves. JSexton didn’t post anything about BlaM Day/Night Two when he was up for Lynch the Lurker/Night Lynch idea.
BlaM did have some votes and was discussed though and perhaps JSexton didn’t start out with a vote like against **Pleonast** to avoid the reaction he got to that (but both town and scum could adapt like that). His vote for **Hawk** was in reaction to his post and he made a comment about Pleonast in Night Zero as well, so him not voting BlaM out of the gate seems consistent as his first reaction to BlaM contained a vote.
He didn’t vote right of the bat when he responded to **amrussell** though, because he wanted to see his reaction first. A vote however would have gotten an even faster reaction I think, so why not vote? If he is scum, the explanation could be he wanted to save it for protecting **MHaye** and voting amrussell followed by a quick vote switch would look (even more) scummy.
My vote is staying on **JSexton**.
I’ve updated my signature, but ran out of space so it’s now a separate page :).
I’ve added my own vote sheet, but it is a bit less accurate then **Millit** s, since you cannot see the exact voting order.
Fine, here you go then. I’m sorry people think I was magic bagging - that wasn’t my intent.
For anyone who doesn’t understand why I said I’d post my role if I was tied with JS and wasn’t sure whether I would if I was tied with amrussel I’ll try and be clearer. I think JS is scum therefore I absolutely think I should be saved over him. I’ think amrussel is town therefore his role if he has one could be way more useful than mine.
As it is my role hasn’t become active yet which is probably unusual at this stage of a game considering the role I have. As I think our doctor’s managed to stay under the radar it’s likely it’ll stay inactive too. I suppose a benefit of me claiming is that I might be NKed first giving the current doctor an extra Night of protection.
This should explain part of the reason I was inclined to believe MHaye too. I knew there was another protective role because mine wasn’t active yet.
And yes, I’ve been acting a bit scummy (see the small catch at the end of my role pm). Not being around much (though most of that was genuine RL crap), being less thorough etc. It’s taken you guys long enough to bloody vote for me though. And while I’m here, apologies to zeriel for the smudge the other day, that one’s been on my concience a bit.
> Mafia: Evil Dead - Role PM
> Welcome to the game; you are the Creepy Guy With Shovel
>
> ALIGNMENT: Town
> GENERIC: Backup Doctor
> WIN CONDITION: All Deadites have been vanquished.
>
> BACKGROUND:
>
> From a strict scholarly standpoint, the prototypical Creepy Guy With Shovel, the epitome of the trope, if you will, appeared in the seminal film masterpiece of 1990, Home Alone. You know the drill: older male with a lot of facial hair and not much affection for personal hygiene, with a tendency to appear suddenly and startle the not-too-terrible-bright leads. But when things get unpleasant, there’s the Creepy Guy With Shovel, ready to fend off the odd demon or bat monster or Daniel Stern and protect the same shallow, vapid teenagers who thought him so terrifying.
>
> That’s you. You know this gang of co-eds is in grave danger: you’ve seen things like this happen before out in the woods of northern Michigan, and it’s never ended well. But you’re not about to let more innocent young lives go to waste - not as long as you have your shovel. You’ll hang around, and try to blend in; if they need you, you’ll be there. As long as they don’t panic and lynch you first.
>
> POWERS:
>
> 1. At the outset of the game, you have no active powers. However, if the role or roles primarily responsible for the protection of Townies should be rendered dead or otherwise unable to carry out protective detail, you will swoop in like a stinky Superman to save the Day. From that point forward, you will be allowed to target one player per Night; you will use your trusty shovel to fend off any attempts on their life. You can even target yourself - as long as you meet the criterion below.
>
> Because of course, there’s a small catch. Your role in this movie is only suitably ironic if you protect those who trust you least. Accordingly, you may target for protection only players who have voted for you at least once during the course of the game.
