Well, yeah. So, hi. I’m **choie** , lying traitor.

I guess even **Pizza** thinks I had an easy time of it, and I know many others will think I was way overpowered. Kind of harshes my mellow, but that’s okay. From this end of things, I _never_ saw this as a cake walk. If you read the QuickTopic, you’ll see how filled with angst I was.

From the start I questioned **pizza** ’s wisdom in choosing me for this role. After learning what it entailed, I figured I didn’t stand a snowball’s chance in hell.

- I have played a grand total of two games before this
- I’ve _never_ played as scum, and D&D rules make me nearly spontaneously combust.
- I had _no_ teammates to strategize with.
- I had **Guiri** and **Normal Phase** as opponents. COME ON.
- I have a personality that apparently people hate and in past games have come close to being lynched a few times
- If I ever lost the confidence of the revivees–including master player **Guiri** and no slouch **Astral** –I would’ve been found out in a trice, because their votes would have disappeared.
- I had a whopping 200hp, period.
- Unlike a regular scum team member, I had no idea who the other evil people were. And in fact, the evil people were after me too.
- I second-guess everything I ever do anyway. **Pizza** did pat me on the head and say I was doing a good job, but that sorta stuff almost always bounces right off me. I’m teflon when it comes to reassurances. (As it turns out I was right not to really buy it; he’d fashioned a game that even he feels I romped through. Sigh.)

There were _so_ many times you guys were THISCLOSE to the answer. **Silver Jan** posited there was only one PFK. **Guiri** suspected this too. **Astral** wondered if there were any limits to my resurrections and seemed very close to suspecting my role was not beneficent. **Normal** too seemed very dubious about my actions.

Oh, by the way, obviously my Actions were almost entirely lies. I lied about only being able to Revive as my sole Night action. I lied about being blocked in Fully Healing **Tanaer**. (That was to explain the lack of a resurrection.) I lied about trying and failing to resurrect **Normal**. (I had purposely used up a WISH to kill **Normal** in a way so that she couldn’t be resurrected – at that time I was afraid that the Diamond that **Guiri** had could be used for resurrections, since that’s one thing I know about AD&D from _Order of the Stick_. There was no way I wanted **Normal** back, so I needed her permanently dead. But then I had to explain why I wasn’t even trying to resurrect her, so I faked the color. Sometimes being a writer does help.)

The funniest thing? The only lie that got me in trouble was lying about attacking **LightFoot** on Day 1. I figured it was worth a shot, probably the real attacker was dead by then. Nope. I freaked out when **Scathach** turned out to make the claim as well. It was _sheer luck_ when she suddenly admitted that she was Evil – I couldn’t believe it. Suddenly mine was the more believable claim thanks to her baffling honesty. Otherwise **Guiri** would’ve sussed me for sure. Of all things, to be nearly caught out by a lie about a Day 1 25hp attack!

I did a lot of things for sheer WTF factor. Zombie Mosier, **Weedy** ’s fake flip, the **PetW** nonreveal – and the latter really bugged the hell out of me 'cause _none of you picked up on that, dammit!_ That’s why I brought it up incessantly. 😃 Then when everyone in the “cabal” (consisting of the revivees, me, and **Silver** , who had learned of my reviver role early) started asking the totally natural question – why the hell was I still _alive_? – I had to remind them of the attacks on me (several of which were my own).

The post-death **Scathach** reveal about the Evil people looking for a certain object that would grant them “ultimate power” (which was news to me, btw – I didn’t realize they knew about the Shard) was the inspiration for my completely pulled-out-of-my-nether-regions theory which was actually _totally plausible_: that the lesser evildoers and the Big Bad Traitor were searching for my Pearl Staff, which was responsible for my resurrections, because like so many fictional _uber villains_ they wanted immortality, the ultimate power over death itself.

When I knew **Weedy** ’s fake flip was about to expire (I had three Days and Nights for that Wish to exist), I knew I had to come up with a reason that made sense. So that’s why I posited the whole corrupting One Ring theory, where people were corrupted by their control over Phere, but once it was out of their hands they were released from that corruption. Luckily I didn’t really have to expand on that. But it also helped explain the separate-but-not-working-together Evil team players too; each of them wanted the “One Ring” and people would turn Evil to get it.

A lot of this was sheer luck and just yanking things out of mid air and hoping like hell they made sense. The whole time I felt soooo overwhelmed. **Pizza** told me my wincon was being able to outvote the remaining live players, _including_ Evil/Neutral folks. How in God’s name would I ever survive from a high of, what, 28 players, down to four? (Including me and the triple vote mechanic.) And that wasn’t even including the belated discovery that some people had their own double-vote mechanic. FUCK THAT, I thought. No way. Not fair.

In my favor, my sole source of inner strength, was the knowledge that in both my previous games I’d never been lynched, despite it coming pretty close. Yet in this game… well, I don’t get it, but I was _never even close_ to being lynched. What was up with that? I don’t think I ever had more than two votes on me at a time, _if_ that. I genuinely don’t get it, except again, probably a BIG combo of luck and other players who were acting so ridiculously scummy that I hardly had to do anything to push the votes in any particular direction. And I do create characters for a living, so yeah, I was able to create a **choie** who was righteously indignant.

OMG and all the breadcrumbs I was giving, healing **Visorslash** twice despite our acrimony, healing **Guiri** , and in all those posts where I commented on someone wasting their time healing **Visorslash** but including acrostics that said IT WAS ME or I HEALED YOU. Only later did that come back to cause problems, because **Astral** was smart enough to ask, “wait, why are you still alive? I was able to figure you out as reviver, you left breadcrumbs… why aren’t you dead yet?” I don’t even remember how I got out of that one, but somehow I did. Oh, I think I pointed out that **Silver Jan** was protecting me or something like that. It was the hardest question to answer and unfortunately now it’s slipped my mind how I answered it to the satisfaction of **Astral, Guiri, Gadarene** and **Silver**.

Anyway. This game took a LOT out of me and I was definitely tense and unlikeable because of it, and frankly I’m surprised y’all didn’t lynch me just for being a jerk, but maybe you’ll see that I had a lot of pressure on me and without any fellow strategists I had to improvise 100% on my own, and that played with my emotions. Also, to be honest? The longer I was talking with the four other players who trusted me, the worse I felt about myself. I know it’s just a game but… I hated that part of it. I didn’t realize how scummy I’d _feel_. I’ve already apologized privately to the gang and I’m sure the more experienced people think I’m just being a drama queen, but really… it wasn’t easy for me on many levels. I personally don’t find it easy to trust people, so having to fool others feels hypocritical. But I had to. It’s all a game and I really apologize for hurting anyone’s feelings by saying anything obnoxious or by abusing your trust.

I do wish I’d won this game more on merit, rather than because there were so many drop-outs and people didn’t submit actions (what’s up with that?) and didn’t ascend to be powerful enough. But even so, it was fun being written as badass, even if it seems it wasn’t so badass after all.

As I said originally, it may not have seemed hard to you guys, but it sure as hell was for me. Even with all the advantages **pizza** said I had, it felt like an uphill battle. Thanks to **pizza** for entrusting me with the role, forcing me to sweat and angst and improvise and lie my tush off and betray people who trusted me. All in all, lots of fun! Frustrating as hell but fun.

Choie, the final day would have been a lot less stressful if I was around, I would’ve been lynched without fuss. 😛

Not listed: Lord Phere held a better auto-healing item than Visorslash held, but no one ever tried stealing from Phere.

Not listed because it was possible for Choie to “wish” to steal said item, and she wasn’t given that information at game start. Something she would have had to find out same as everyone else by shooting blindly. No one ever did because stealing wasn’t a popular action.

**Items:**
Basically here’s what items do:

Potions/recovery- there are a few of those, they are single use. Obvious what they’re for.

Regen- there are two regen items at the start. They auto-heal the bearer of the item, except for Phere who is immune to healing because he’s an illusion.

“Color” ring, staff, harp, helm- Single protect against matching “color” magic element to bearer.

“Color” scepter, bracer, flute, pendant- Negates all damage against matching “color element”, permanently.

Ruby pendant- Fire
Sapphire pendant- Water
Emerald scepter- Earth
Beryl bracelet- Wind
Diamond pendant- Light
Obsidian bracer- Shadow
Not only negates damage, but absorbs HP from elemental magic, permanently.

Ruby, emerald, sapphire, beryl, diamond, obsidian RINGS-
Casts 100hp elemental damage, regardless of character class. So a soldier could cast several different types of magic spells, with these magic rings.

Weapons- cause various levels of above-vanilla damage. A soldier can cause 25hp damage, but every weapon can cause at least 50-100hp damage. Some character classes naturally cause more and don’t require weapons.

Bracer, helm, shield, chestplate- pieces of armor, can be stacked, reduce physical damage by a set number of HP. When used simultaneously, they can protect the bearer from extreme amounts of physical damage.

Nonmagical items can be enchanted by the Warlock class, so even relatively useless items and weapons can become magical.
More info to be dumped later. I just took a massive infodump, and I’m all tuckered out. 😛

Oh I’m glad you reminded me of that claim, **pizza**. I do want to take some measure of pride in that I managed to avoid a lynch despite never publically claiming my cover role. I could have, but as time went on I made it sort of a mini-challenge to myself: how long can I go without presenting this amazing cover role?

Apparently, the answer was: pretty frakkin’ long. So I’ll take that as a victory that wasn’t due to being overpowered.

Thanks for the game Pizza, it was fun, although it was also frustrating 🙂 This must be one of a kind game. I think **choie \*\* was the right choice for scum because she is an author.
Sorry** visor\*\*, I did have faith in you at one point and was very surprised that you turned out to be evil even though you were working with Town, glad to find out that you weren’t really a bad guy.

Well, I wanted to be a bad guy initially. I wanted to steal the shard and become ultra evil, etc. However, I never got the chance to as my health was never high enough to switch to ninja then to rogue. So then I just made it my goal to survive, and if that meant helping the town, then that’s what I would do.

I don’t think the game would have lost anything if we had known from the start that it wasn’t a game of mafia. Possibly the fact that roles were not assigned randomly should also have been shared, I believe that’s completely non-standard.

Personally I went through phases of frustration and loss of interest as I realized I was getting almost no reads from people, which lead to a level of apathy I’ve never had before. It’s ironic that the brute force approach to solving the game actually worked but the honest guy flipped evil.

Congrats choie, you were brilliant, absolutely brilliant, well played. No hard feelings.

Thanks Pizza, I realize how much effort went into creating and moderating this game, great job!

I don’t think anyone could say choie didn’t deserve to win this one.

> [@choie](#):

Lols, yeah, in my defense the evil claim came only after it was clear I was going to be lynched no matter what. In the hopes that people would believe I was telling the truth about the other stuff too, including attacking Lightfoot.

So much for that:smack:

I do think town was too ready to lynch non-good-aligned people. It was specifically called out at the beginning of the game that alignment did not equal wincon but everyone ignored that.

In other news, I’m going to be smug as all get out because not only did I guess choie was doing the raising:

If you look in the lovers thread I also guessed she had the shard 🙂

Mind you by that stage I was actively hoping town would lose because of their complete unwillingness to buy that neutrals aren’t scum.

Oh, 2 mechanics related nitpicks.

1. We essentially had to pick classes by blind chance, since we didn’t know what they did. I wouldn’t have become a Templar Knight if I’d know I wouldn’t be able to heal any more. Since my win con was pure survival for me or gnarly, it would have been much handier to continue being able to heal him.
2. I hated, hated, HATED the PM’ing thing. It even turned out to be anti-town, in that people formed their own little cliques of trusted which turned out to be completely wrong. (Well played again by choie though :)). If more people had twigged that choie was doing the raising, I think there’d have been more questions asked about why she survived.

Well, choie’s was not random for sure, this is what Pizza said to her:

> [@Askthepizzaguy](#):
>
> No I didn’t pick you randomly. Here’s what I needed:
>
> 1. Enthusiastic player who is dedicated to the game
> 2. Has no problems with inactivity or participation
> 3. Someone who might be grateful to have a mafia role, as I’ve had some recent experience with folks who don’t want to be mafia for some reason.
>
> I also happened to want someone who perhaps doesn’t have a reputation of always being mafia or always being the trickster. Someone with a clean slate, so if you get caught, it’s based off of your own behavior or their own analysis, not based on some metagaming crap where they’re afraid of you and you didn’t really do anything to deserve it.
>
> I also stick with what I said in De’endee… I happen to think that if you were mafia in that game you’d have been formidable. You have a way with words that seems to make you survive, and although it draws attention to you, it also causes people to second-guess themselves.
>
> I think you can’t blame yourself fully for your team’s mistakes in the past games as townie. You meet my criteria for a good player. You can be winless and still be a good player to me.

What frustrates me in this game was that the voting record was useless for solving the game. I’ve never played in a game like that, so I kept coming back to the record every reveal, hoping to “solve” the game.

What seriously hurt me is that I kept looking for a scum team. Surely some of those evil people had to be a team if this was a Mafia game, right? That’s why I didn’t pay enough attention to what the evil people said. Some of them had to be the scum team, and scum lie.

What helped Choie was that the attacks seemed largely random to me. I couldn’t get a grip on why people were dying or surviving when they did, so Choie didn’t particularly stand out. I was exceedingly unlikely to be lynched after my resurrection; same for Guiri and Gad. And since WE weren’t dying, it didn’t seem as weird that Choie was alive. I was guessing the scum team was shooting randomly, trying to hit the reviver, and they just couldn’t find him or her. That explained our survival, and Choie’s. If I had ever TRULY realized there wasn’t a scum team, I mighta come back to Choie as a suspect. Ultimately, I was just plain outplayed.

Awesomely played, **choie** ; that was a well-deserved win.

**PizzaMod** , good game. I’m sorry it was broken somewhat by the non-participants.

For the record, I played along every day, even after I was dead. I was faithful in keeping up, just to make sure I would be ready in case I was resurrected.

Full Disclosure #1: Due to my personal spiritual convictions, I was never comfortable with the whole “Demon” aspect of the game, and in fact, wrestled with it as soon as it was revealed. I thought about asking for a sub in Night 0, but decided against it because we didn’t seem to have a lot of additional players who wanted to play.

The same thing went for the D & D aspects of the game. I never played a game of D & D growing up, because in the minds of my parents and my religious upbringing, D & D was literally “a tool of the Devil”. Thus, I was really uncomfortable throughout the whole game.

Full Disclosure #2: Along about Day 4 or so, I decided that since I was sticking out the game, I might as well play it fully. I started out as an Archer (Lawful/Good), but I was able to see Beast Master and Dragon Slayer. Since **Astral** kept going on about wanting to achieve Beast Master, I decided I would go for Dragon Slayer.

I asked Pizza what I needed to do, and he told me all I had to do was request it, since I had the necessary level. I went ahead and submitted that request.

Then, during the Night, I received notification from Pizza that he had inadvertently led me astray. I was supposed to be Chaotic in order to change and had not done what was necessary. Pizza said I could take on the Dragon Slayer role, but that I would have to also do the necessary actions to fulfill the prerequisites. He also said that I was not to tell anyone else about the special dispensation until after the game. I agreed to the conditions, and looked forward to causing all sorts of havoc with my new powers.

Unfortunately, I was killed that Night, and never got to exercise them. In fact, I was never even told what my new powers were. The really unfortunate thing was that the reveal cast me in my new, unused role, which made it look like I had been a Dragon Slayer who had chosen not to slay any dragons. That simply was not the case.

My only real target at that time was **Tanaer**. I had built a very well-constructed case against her, but had chosen not to present it because we were near end-of-Day, so I had it ready to go on Day 5 (I think that was the day). I would have been wrong with all my arguments.

Anyway, again, **choie** , you did an awesome job.

Peace.

Very well played, choie! Excellent job.

Pizza, I’m never playing another game of yours ever. Inexcusable moderation. Sorry.

Just curious, but that’s a somewhat weird stance to take. You’re stopping yourself from playing (generally) interesting and complex games, and for what?
