So, onward from 450.

One thing to note : it seems obvious, given ATPGs comments about trying to stay objective and not interfere with a running game, that the votes Lord Phere placed were ordered by a player (or group of players, but I’m going to talk in the singular). I don’t think there can be much doubt that the alignment of that player is anti-Town.

Taking that into account, a couple of Gadarene’s posts are interesting.

[post=14948819]Post 458[/post] : His analysis seems to omit one point. Gad is an experienced player, Mosier was in his first game. If Gad is indeed Town, and given that the three votes were Mafia aligned, why didn’t they take out the experienced player?
[post=14948939]Post 461[/post] : Suggests a reason for Town-aligned player to vote that way; not convincing because almost certainly any player who can order Phere is non-Town, and therefore the votes had a non-Town motivation.

It seems to me that, given Mosier was behind both Gadarene and Astral Rejection in the vote count, that if both those players were Town, the Mafia would have been better served taking out one of them. So that makes me suspicious of Gadarene.

I’m not sure how long it is until Dusk – I remember it was 10pm, but not of what day – I thought it was tomorrow. To take out insurance against being wrong, I’m going to register my suspicion of Gadarene for all to see.

**Vote Gadarene**.

That also ensures another level.

I’m being the most forthcoming of anyone, so obviously I’m a good lynch.

Whatever. You guys have to get past your fear and paranoia; it doesn’t serve the town well at all. Why is no one else taking my point about Suburban, for instance? You’d rather lynch people who are posting than people who are being weirdly quiet. Ask Suburban why he’s still voting me and why he has ignored my post. ASK HIM.

This is probably pointless right at the moment, but I gotta be me.

> I don’t really have the time for a longer post, because real life got in the way. I’ve got time for some quick thoughts though, so come back to this post after my death reveal.

I don’t believe for a second that this post was “quick thoughts”. Every inch of it looks carefully constructed for maximum impact.

> [@](#):
>
> **I have a very strong scum read on Normal Phase**. Please revisit her posts after I’m gone. Most glaring is her tone while she was trying to discredit my entire line of reasoning as anti-town.

And yet you have nothing actually to say at this point about my tone - anyone reading it would be left guessing what on earth you could possibly mean. You save that for later and don’t even much go into it then, focusing on just a single sentence. You’d think if this whole post was meant as anything other than a farewell “I’m townie, really – see how townie I am” thing, you’d manage to put the details of your suspicions front and center. You buried the lede, Astral.

> [@](#):
>
> When I’m dead (and presumably you see I’ve been trying to be pro-town), I hope you come back to her as a suspect.

Yeah, you’ve been “trying”. That’s the whole reason you’re suspicious. It all looks like “trying”. It doesn’t look like “being”.

> [@](#):
>
> \*\*Gadarene will look incredibly suspicious when I’m dead,

Oh will he? Because I kinda wasn’t really thinking that way at all currently, to speak for at least one person. But OK, you mention it, now let’s see what you do with it.

> [@](#):
>
> but keep an open mind.\*\* I know nothing about Gadarene as a fact, but my feelings are he’s town.

OK, you think he’s town.

> [@](#):
>
> When I’m revealed to be town, you’ll assume Gad was saved by the Mosier triple vote. This is a fair assumption,

And you want to make damn sure we don’t forget it. What IS the reasoning for that, by the way – the reasoning that makes NEITHER of you the intended beneficiary of day one’s voting shenanigans? I don’t believe you’ve ever said. You let Gadarene catch all the flak.

> [@](#):
>
> but I’m asking town to evaluate that as just a data point, not a smoking gun. I’m advising caution,

Oh noes, not caution. Because Astral really thinks he’s town, guyz. Despite that he can’t stop talking about how everybody ELSE will think otherwise for such excellent reason.

> [@](#):
>
> because I suspect a couple of people will immediately jump on Gad and I don’t feel that’s in town’s best interest. Discuss it before coming to a conclusion.

Uh huh. You know, most townies would just say something along the lines of “I know the vote thing points as much to Gad as to me, but I really kinda think he’s been acting townie. I’m not in favor of his lynch, going forward.” Not all this pussy-footing about regarding how all-fired reasonable the suspicion is, and how you just know everybody’s going to be dying to discuss it – but just be cautious. You know. Because townie Astral has our best interests at heart and he wants to make sure you know it.

I don’t buy a word of this, Astral. It’s BS in a different way from choie. She got carried away and let her paranoia run wild. This from you is entirely calculated to remind people that Gadarene is suspicious without gettng the dirt on your hands.

> [@](#):
>
> **MHaye is still very suspicious to me, but I find Normal more suspicious.** You guys will have to evaluate how likely it is that a scum Normal is bussing a scum MHaye, or any of the other options.

For me, I still kinda think that he’s scum, assuming you are. But we’ll see.

> [@](#):
>
> **Remember my pairs, especially if Normal Phase is revealed to be scum.** This would implicate Lightfoot, whom I have a tiny, tiny scum lean on for the tone of her posts. It’s nothing I could point to directly, just a gut feeling. This is the weakest part of the advice I’ll give you.

You’ve yet to actually explain what these pairs are supposed to mean, nor did you ever respond to my criticism of your methodology. But that’s ok because it wasnt intended to mean anything, was it Astral? It was just a drive-by smudging of various players on whatever context you could dredge up.

I am leaning town on Lightfoot, and were YOU town I’d be interested in what you have to say that might make me think differently. But you cant’ even be bothered to say it.

> [@](#):
>
> **I still feel that realitytrip & lilflower could be scum.** Please revisit them when I’m dead.

I’d be happy as a clam to revisit realitytrip. Yay, we agree on something!

> [@](#):

> Ultimately, my lynch is good for town.

You don’t say. “Ultimately?” Really? This is not a spontaneous post. This is a prepared statement.

> [@](#):
>
> I’ve been a confusing distraction, and removing that distraction will be beneficial for town. Look carefully at the people who are very, very sure of their gut feelings (like, for instance, Normal Phase’s insistance about how she’s “almost positive.”)

Mmm. Like you’re so very certain about me. I won’t argue this one, though; I know statements like mine rub people the wrong way at times. But good lord if that post of yours didn’t hit all the very same buttons that this one is doing.

Good times, good times.

When I get there.

In the interim, **Unvote Gadarene**.

The vote has served it’s purpose, and I’m still (subject to my reread) far more suspicious of Astral Rejection.

Now back to the N1 reread.

Heh. No, it means I’ve watched too much _The West Wing_.

**Astral** , I feel like I’ve been bullyragged (is that a real word or am I conflating two different words?) into voting for you. If you’re Town, I’m very sorry in advance for letting pressure from others, especially others I find scummier than you, force my hand. But it’s my own fault more than theirs. I should’ve been a better advocate for my cause.

(Of course, it follows that if you’re scum, I shouldn’t get any credit for having voted you. Being pressured into doing the right thing doesn’t reflect well on me.)

You’re probably right that this wagon has been a distraction, though I hate to see any Townie lynched (well, not lynched, exactly, but whatever the equivalent in this game is… left behind to fight Phere, looks like). It will, at the very least, be informative.

On the plus side, as **pizzaguy** implied, Death is not the End. I’m really curious to see how that mechanic works. Very curious indeed. (Especially if I’m the next one to go and thus may benefit from it!)

As long as I’m here I feel like some baseless speculation about the color. I remember someone wanted to know how likely it was that the color means anything and I don’t know if anyone responded. IMO it is very likely that it does. Maybe even to the point of adding direct clues to the game’s solution, though if history is any guide, those clues will be missed by absolutely everybody. At any rate:

> [@Askthepizzaguy](#):
>
> \*It is the \*\*year 10,432… \*\*
>
> in the **Age of Iron.**
>
> The **Parmigian Kingdom** spans three continents, having acquired new territories in a war to repel an invasion from the south and the east. The people of this land are not yet fully assimilated into the Parmigian culture, nor do they always follow Parmigian law. However, ever since the \*\*King of Parma, **also known as the Parmigiano Reggiano,** \*\*became the ruler of this lands, the people have not seen war, only prosperity. What would be a fractured and divided place is now a nation, united under the banner of their respected King.

OK first just some speculation about color. I’m trying very hard not to run afoul of the no-handshaking rule, but I don’t think it’s crossing any line to observe that not all alignments in a typical role PM are the same color, right? Good is blue, for instance (write-ups), but elements are various colors and so on.

The King is referred to as Green pre-transformation, while (see below), the various border areas are
Teal (North)
Red (West, suggested as especially dangerous), and
Black (South, suggested as rather anarchic).

> [@](#):
>
> The Kingdom is powerful, and has a grand army which defends its borders to the **North** , and especially to the **West**. Due to the recent conquests, little more than town watch and a few scattered garrisons exist in the **South** , which are capable of little more than keeping the peace and the rule of law. Much of the vast territories here have not even been visited by the King of Parma, due to their size and scope. The terrain is rough, and some of the mountain ranges are impassable. The southernmost peninsula exists in near-perpetual twilight due to the vertical slopes, with just a few hours of direct sunlight at mid-day.
>
> There is a settlement in the middle of an ancient, dormant volcano… a vast, fertile plain surrounded on three sides by sharp peaks, while the southernmost range has sunk into the ocean due to the spreading of the continents. A river flows from the north, and passes by this settlement, and spreads out into a magnificent delta, depositing itself into the southernmost sea. The land is so rich that the farms require little sunlight to yield crops of unmatched quality. It is on this shadowy plain that an important event in the history of Parma is about to occur.
>
> The King’s seers have shared a terrible vision, and foretold of a great evil which will rise. \*\*While the prophecy is not specific, it has been foretold that a tremendously evil force will rise against the people of this kingdom, and that the \*\*unseen \*\*summoner or summoners of this force are motivated by the desire for limitless power. It has also been revealed that the mastermind behind this attack is a \*\*traitor \*\*to the kingdom, not an outsider.

So the location of the conflict is the anarchic **South** , but the main antagonists (or antagonist, though I do expect a more or less traditional scum team despite the grammar) may be linked to the red **West**. (or maybe not – see below) One of them – the mastermind – is not an outsider, though, suggesting some kind of godfather. Perhaps this person will show Alignment: town to anyone trying to find out, maybe they’ll always turn up good and/or lawful even if they’re murdering every night, maybe something else, I don’t know.

[Actually this just occurred to me, but in a game I just ran recently, which Pizza played in, I had a serial killer who got to kill by proxy (controlling someone else), therefore remaining undetected in that way to any watchers, trackers, roleblocker and so on (I didn’t have a detective.) This game has an explicit and open proxy in the form of Lord Phere. So maybe that’s it or part of it.]

> [@](#):
>
> As such, the king has asked for skilled warriors and practitioners of magic to step forward and join him on the field of battle, in the place where his fortune-tellers have predicted that the first disaster will strike. The king has promised to reward them all very, very handsomely for their efforts should they succeed. The first order of business: preparing a defense. The king has already dispatched many knights and skilled workers to build a fortification stocked with supplies for the adventurers. This fortress will allow the adventurers a place to rest and recuperate after their journey and prepare for whatever awaits them, without endangering the nearby town itself.
>
> These adventurers are not an army. Many of these are simply skilled mercenaries motivated by \*\*greed \*\*and the promise of reward.

Ok, this fits with what Visor and Gad have said about the third party victory condition. This indigo color faction is more or less townies, but with the unfortunate failing of valuing their own skin too highly.

> [@](#):
>
> Others feel it is their sworn \*\*duty \*\*to protect the defenseless.

The basic town. Just get rid of the bad guys. Blue faction.

> [@](#):
>
> Still others have joined simply for the \*\*experience \*\*of an adventure and the chance to test themselves in battle. Some of these adventurers harbor a deep-seated distrust for others who have joined this group. Not everyone here is in this for anyone else but themselves. Many of these adventurers hail from races that despise one another and have been in a constant state of war for centuries.

I have no idea who these guys are nor any idea how their win condition(s) might relate to town’s, but the suggestion is maybe one or two PFKs or quasi-PFKs; plus others who just need to get rid of each other. Color green for all of them.

> [@](#):
>
> And there’s also the known **traitor** within their midst. This group must walk the fine line between cooperating effectively, and being too trusting. Alone, they are vulnerable. Together, they are strong… but the enemy is within, and must be stopped.

And the traitor’s faction shown in red.

> [@](#):
>
> The King of Parma has called on neighboring nations to send representatives, for the evil that lurks here is said to threaten \*\*all \*\*the lands of the greater realm. Few have responded, but surprisingly enough, Parma’s great rivals to the \*\*West \*\*and \*\*North \*\*have dispatched several skilled warriors. Their existence on this journey has been called into question by \*\*Parmigian \*\ ***loyalists** , who suspect these outsiders of having other motivations. A few others from the \*\*East \*\*have also joined in.

Now here’s where it gets confusing, the overlap between factions and nationality. I don’t know where to go from here without running afoul of handshaking rules. But It may actually be probable that the traitor’s allies come from all over and could be superficially in any given faction.

> [@](#):
>
> The journey was a long and treacherous march through unforgiving terrain, but at last, the King and his guard, and the band of adventurers have arrived on the great Twilight Plain.
>
> The **nameless town** , simply called **Town** , lies in the center of this valley. The people here are peaceful, and loyal to the King, even if they are not native to the Parmigian homelands. Their town is defenseless, except for the nearly fortification which is still under construction. The band of adventurers makes camp inside the fortification for the night.
>
> **In the morning,** the King will announce his defense plans for the Town. But for now, the weary adventurers get some much-needed rest…

It’s bizarre that the “original” D1 runner-up got their first vote 300 posts into the Day, the second one almost 100 posts later and then got 7 more, including mine, in the space of 32 posts. I suspect the seal thing may be confirmation bias, having a vote leader may have been sufficient catalyst.

Fair enough, you gave me the impression that Fubbles was the next best thing to voting scum as you didn’t find anyone scummy. I don’t need to give you advice on who from your list you should be voting for. Just a comment on NAF, he [said](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=14958945&postcount=844) he’d be unable to play until D3 due to RL stuff, and Believerer only ever posted once to sign-up after sign-ups had closed so it’s possible he was an auto-replacement for Drain and may not even be aware of it.

D1: Guiri, Gadarene, septimus, MHaye, choie
D2: septimus, Silver Jan, Visorslash, Guiri, Weedy, choie, Tanaer, ToeJam

That would be akin to a post restriction, something which is generally frowned upon, although I don’t know Pizza’s preference.

Arrgh!

I thought that end-of-Day was today, as well.

Sorry if I contributed to anyone’s confusion.

You had me fooled. FOS.

Did you fool Astral too, or was that a sham?

I hate boring Ends-of-Day. Someone please get another wagon going.
