Heck, the fact he is talking a lot again is suspicious. He’s been quieter lately. 🙂

Oh, and I am confirming my PM.

Now, which one of you to psychoanalyze? Hmmmm…

I am having an incredible failure of memory. I already asked a question via PM that was solved by actually reading the post that generated the question I had. It’s typical though; things that aren’t important when I read them often get thrown aside and ignored even when going back and reading them over again. It’s like my brain has decided that the statements were meaningless and don’t need to be read again.

I’m extremely surprised to not see any more posts here tonight; I made the previous post right before dinner and I thought when I checked back before going to bed there would be quite a few new posts. It seems like there’s a decent amount that could be discussed about the implications of the rules, although I suppose some sorts of discussion might give the scum a heads-up on the town’s reaction to certain situations.

So to try to start something, a question: Under what conditions do we throw people in the brig?

-I suppose keeping a confirmed townie in jail when their vote doesn’t matter forces the scum to go after someone else. I’m not sure how much of an advantage this is, but it’s something to keep in mind when we have an obvious lynch target.

-We’re probably going to have situations where we know one of two people must be scum; we can lynch one and jail the other to protect against the scum using their hidden power right as they’re found out to be lying. If we pick the right one to lynch, we can release the prisoner the next day. It’s a remote possibility that the scum is positioned to stop the release and have numbers to control the vote so the one to refuse to release doesn’t get lynched, but that’s only going to happen as numbers dwindle and can be analyzed at a later time with the additional information we’ll have then. Overall it’s a pretty narrow use in terms of possible benefits, but there doesn’t seem to be a downside until the end game.

-It’s possible we can use the brig’s role changing effect to isolate an unconfirmed in a particular role to test their loyalty in some way, but it seems more likely that such a tactic would in reality be a scum attempt to stop the town from getting information.

Thoughts? Anything of dreadful importance that I missed?

yaknow this is kind of interesting. when **hal** and i placed our votes it was Night 0. now i know why mine didn’t count (fracking **story** torments me even when he doesn’t play) but apparantly **hal** ’s did.

i wonder if there is other Night 0 schtuff that went on.

One of the hardest parts of this game is going to be coming up with 4 people to vote for on Day One. At least we won’t have roleclaim scrambles to contend with as well.

I think the more important question about the brig is how it should be used. (That is, for what purpose.) Early on, its function as a roleblock seems fairly trivial. It would prevent a hypothetical scum hacker, cracker, or commissar from using their power that night, but the cracker is only useful to scum in the first place if a second scum has already been brigged; and the commissar power has drawbacks as well as advantages to them. It will not prevent murders and is not likely to prevent other actions by the scum unless multiple scum are in the brig at the same time. Therefore it’s of minimal use as a pseudo-investigation or as a minimizer of scum damage. (Unless, again, we’re willing to brig a whole pile of people and not let them out easily. Are we?)

The other effects of the brig are as a vote-remover (relatively unimportant early in the game but much more so as the game goes on) and as a protecter. The last is rather intriguing to me. If there’s nothing better to do, then is there no reason not to have the captain and security officer lock up the (captain’s opinion of) the towniest-looking player in the game every day, then let them out again the next? The brigging itself would cancel that player’s vote, but that would not always be a barrier in itself.

Am I understanding the Captain/Chief of Security correctly?
\*\*
The Captain puts out the arrest order(chooses who: can’t vote, can’t use any power)

The Security Chief has to come along and actually brig them(but can’t choose them himself).\*\*

Is this right?

and i didn’t play or follow the first game so this is probably “duh” for others.

but it seems like engineering is one that absolutely needs to be town. a combo watcher/tracker is kind of powerful in this set up. a scum doc doesn’t really accomplish dick for scum since it is just alignment. a scum commissar would be funny since if he/she kills then they get tossed in the hoosegow (unless they kill one of their team which is fine with me). a scum hacker could play all sorts of havoc by promoting town and having poo splattered on that person.

i assume that we will expect a report from engineering and medical each morning although the information will not be necessarily trustworthy until the person holding the office is either killed or otherwise confirmed.

and i am sure this is 101 but it helps me to put it out there to make sure that at least at the kindergarden level i don’t get held back.

absolutely not acceptable. mods are not allowed or supposed to enjoy this.

and hey, that’s the first time i actually broke up one quote into multiple sections and didn’t totally hose the thing up. woot the fracking woot.

Medical can hypothetically be reported at night, since the report is given at the end of the day and night strategy is not disallowed. The doc could hold “town” results until a minute until dawn, hypothetically; or report “scum” results immediately so that the commissar,if there is one, could take a shot.

ok, that makes sense - i didn’t catch the part that all officers except engineering are a Day action. obviously it is ripe for all types of shenanigans but most of those would prove fatal long term.

ok, next dumb ass question. should these Day actions be done with enough time left in the Day that we can talk about it even though they are not rescindable? should the rest of the crowd be engaging in suggesting these actions or is that akin to telling power roles in a traditional game how to go about their business? although with glasnost just concluding my recent experience is that the collective does a pretty good job of suggesting.

</div>

Actually I’m an idjit, though. Since the doc’s target has to be given publicly during the day, the scum will already know it if a town result (on an actual town) is going to come up – if they decide to kill the player because of that, then whether or not the doc makes it public early or late in the night is unimportant, I think.

I’m going to have to think about the “telling the power roles what to do” business. I’m not sure.
