I like it, makes me feel good about you. I also like jsgoddess’ post a few up from the one I’m responding to. Have to keep reminding myself it’s more than one anti-town team involved.

I’m not buying the train on Colby. Even if he **was** scum, he’d be technically incorrect referring to the “other team” because he’d still be playing against two other groups.

I don’t think he’s guilty of anything but bad wording.

That seems somewhat asinine. Night Zero was very meta, and in a meta sense if the game’s not fair it’s not a worthwhile game.

Happens a fair bit in Ireland. In fact I’d say Patsy is more commonly male than female (but uncommon overall).

The only reason I can see for the Patsy to claim unprompted is so investigators don’t waste their powers targetting them. Is there another advantage I’m missing?

META, mostly: My threshold for early Day One votes is variable. My play style this time around is admittedly still adjusting, because the same things that led me to stop playing (different work environment, kid) are still in play but less so (kid is now in kindergarten, working from home more now). I’m still getting a feel for my own threshold in that regard, which is why I’m not voting yet.

Fair. A bit heavy, but fair. Again, it’s a Day One vote: we don’t have sufficient information to make good votes. We’re almost certainly going to end up lynching a Townie for the crime of talking too much, and then sit around moaning in the end game about how the scum have such an advantage because no one left in the game has much of a post history.

My take on the two leading cases currently: I’m not convinced by the “case” against **Colby** for his “slip.” It doesn’t seem like one of those obvious “Meant to post this in the scumboard” slips. He just used a common phrase in this game which only looks suspicious because this game is really weird. I tend to think that people piling onto his case are more likely to be scum trying to take advantage.

I hate the “case” against **Roosh** because it’s fundamentally the same as the case against me, and I think it’s not only weak reasoning, but generally anti-Town behavior to start putting lynch pressure on people for asking questions, even if you think the answers are obvious. I tend to think that people joining in this vote are more likely to be bad players.

So… yeah. Kinda asinine. Fair cop.

I think most of you are missing my point a bit. I didn’t really see the “I am one of Town” or “Can Scum talk?” as much of a Scum-tell.
What made me wonder was why some players reacted to one and not both players actions.
Because I saw 2 players, same action but different RE-actions…

I dunno, I think it tends to be human nature to get a little bored of reacting again and again even if you think it’s the same behavior over and over. I’m not sure people DO think the behaviors were equivalent, but even if they did, they might just not feel like taking up that same argument again.

But that is precisely the point in this game. With 2 scum teams. Whether or not his is Town or Scum - there will most likely be Scum voting for him by now.
So if he flips Town - I guess both Scum teams are voting.
If he’s Scum - mostly likely just votes from the “other” Scum team.

But I am pretty sure that there IS Scum voting for him by now.

Although Colby’s possible slip is the biggest ping I’ve got right now, it’s very weak. Is the theory that he prepared a message on a scum board and copied it here without reviewing it? Unlikely. I’ve seen a few scum slips like this, but IIRC never from Colby.

It’s anti-Town to bandwagon early on Day 1 for flimsy reasons — it can lead to a wasted Day — yet votes are piling onto Colby. I rather agree with:

Ah, you sound like the **Normal Phase** I enjoyed playing with years ago. 🙂 But I’ll say it: “Slip up is better than policy vote or poke vote or random vote!” I’m not sure about “other options” yet though.

As for condemning Colby for three words, my moment of glory came a few years ago on this Board when I, as Scum, got Svejk Lynched in the ending for using a “subjunctive” word like “would” or “if.” Unfortunately in my two most recent games I was Townie in the ending and misguessed. In each case **AngeloftheNorth** was a fellow Townie pleading with me not to be so stupid. 😛 … Now I just hope this is not the Game where she is finally Scum leading me down the Primrose Path.

I’d look at the two non-voters who sort of FOSed the situation early. In a game with two Scum teams, I wouldn’t be shocked if those two were made up of one of each. Stoking the fire while trying not to get themselves burned.

jsgoddess talking about Colby:

That makes me think of someone looking for a way to hedge bets and to look like they are participating. So, am I just irritated because that always strikes me as weaselly (even in non-Mafia posts), or do I think that’s scummy? That’s what I haven’t decided yet.

This is a valid point against Colby. I think the ‘slip’ is nothing, but a meaningless post that looks like someone posting because they feel they need to to look town? That’s what I like for a case.
The flip side is the post is also _reckless_, which is a more townie thing to do. And I think recklessness outweighs meaningless

I feel the example you give is substantively different from the Colby case at hand. The example you give looks more like a misplaced post. A post that was supposed to go to the scum board but went to the main board by accident. No one is making the case that Colby meant to post to the scum board.

> [@Drain\_Bead](#):
>
> That kind of slip, something where someone is clearly posting on the wrong board, is one thing. Something that’s based solely on word choice is quite another, and is probably a null tell, at least based on my experience.

Agree.

I find this post wishy-washy. More scrutiny on snfaulkner needed.

> [@Suburban\_Plankton](#):
>
> Sometimes they are, sometimes they aren’t. This one looks to me to be more like “something” than most. He notes that there are “2 sets of Scum”, and uses the phrase “the other team” in the same sentence…that seems like an odd combination of phrases.
>
> **vote Colby11**

This post looks good for Suburban Plankton. I disagree with the vote, but the upfront reasoning in the face of pushback against the Colby bandwagon leaves me feeing that Suburban Plankton is a Townie who isn’t afraid of scrutiny. This plus his purposeful edit in the N0 thread (I think that was Suburban, it might have been Hal Briston. The two are essentially the same person in my head), makes me think Town.

> [@Chronos](#):
>
> OK, I’m caught up on my first read-through, but I’m still only to the end of Night 0 on my second read, and I’m getting too tired to continue right now. But one thing sticks out to me:
>
> In [post 444 of Night 0](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=19903102#post19903102), **jsgoddess** says that she thinks that we should be discussing how Town roles should play, since conversation in general is good, and power-roles are free to disregard the advice anyway. But it occurred to me that I hadn’t noticed her doing much of that discussion herself, and so I searched up all of her posts in the two threads. Confirmed: She never actually discusses anything about what any of the Town roles should do. Not only that, but she posts an awful lot of fluff, and of the non-fluff posts she’s made, most of them seem to be expressing the most non-contentious side of whatever topic she’s on, even though she herself suggested one non-fluff topic of conversation.
>
> I think that she’s trying to get everyone else to talk more as cover (because we really do tend to lynch the loud, even though we shouldn’t), while laying low herself.
>
> **Vote jsgoddess**

My read is that jsgoddess was responding to Pleonast saying that we should not discuss town roles. I don’t think explicitly disagreeing with Pleonast creates an obligation for jsgoddess to immediately provide insight about Town Powers.

Ah. The entire Dante thing.

Sure, let’s go back a step.

:smack:

I put in the hedge that my ADHD drove me to think that Dante was the patsy. **Did the mods switch out his role with another role, and that, the delay in doing so was evident in our Day 1 start time?** I won’t claim my ADHD on this line of reasoning.

But, frankly, I find that I more “gut” or “intuition” than the next person. God forbid I try to out words on everything I feel or want to express… I’ll end up slaughtering my lunch online, and IRL OOG. I “whoosh” so often nowadays that my jokes and comments end up being “hit by a pitch” rather than a joke that connects with customers for a grand slam. … I’m using my metaphors again, aren’t I? Bad Meeko!

Frankly. Bluntly, I’m playing pure Meeko. I’ve been made more than once for not playing Pure Meeko. To the scum teams demise. …““Do with that as you will””. 🆒

Or, I could actually be town for this game. All I’m saying is, my volume won’t diminish… Hey… What is that duct tape for?

If it’s uncountered, it’s reasonably safe to consider the claimant town. It’s not solid confirmation, but for the real patsy to leave a fake claim hanging out there uncountered would be bad play. Especially since if we miss the 50/50 shot of hitting the correct patsy with the lynch, they get a revenge kill.

but for the real patsy to leave a fake claim hanging out there uncountered would be bad play.

I don’t follow.

You seem to be assuming an order of claiming that is “just so”, an order that town can’t know.

What prevents the order of claiming to be exactly backwards?

What prevents scum for claiming one or the other, first or second, (or both) Patsy’s? …_scum wouldn’t do that._
