And what makes you think this? Do you think I know this? I’ve never played with him before, that I can recall. I did kibitz a few games he played in, but I really wasn’t paying all that much attention to most individual posters.

And if you’re sure this is how townie septimus acts, how is this different from scummy septimus. How does scummy septimus act? You seem to be the expert on it, so enlighten me.

I’m not suspicious of you, I think you’re genuinely tying to solve the game. Scum Septimus is very cautious, he watches his words and posts carefully. In fact he usually writes long posts and has his scum team check them for acceptability before posting.

Can I be so egotistical as to state I think it’s simply because you dared to mention me in front of Pleonast?

I find the parts that he deemed “irrelevant” to correspond exactly with the parts that he misrepresented or made up.

I agree with you that scum can’t afford to ignore context, particularly in this game when there are two scum teams. (If you’re Mafia you’re going to want to see how the wolves can gain the upper hand, and vice versa.)

And I’m fighting so hard for three reasons, non of which are me being any type of scum:

1. We’re down one town already and with two scum teams I’m concerned about our numbers.
2. I pride myself on my scum game, and what I’m being accused of would be really, really crappy scum play. (It may be crappy town play too but that doesn’t bother my ego.)
3. I feel like I’m being gaslit by his willful disregard of everything I’m actually saying.

> **Basic Setup**
>
> [ol]
> [li]This is a semi-open setup. All of the Town and Scum roles and win conditions will be public knowledge at the beginning of the game. Importantly, there are no secret or hidden elements to any Town or Scum role powers or win conditions. There may be secret or hidden game mechanics known to individual Town or Scum players that are not public knowledge.[/li][li]All third party roles are closed. However, the rules shown here are absolute in all cases; no hidden element will contradict or supersede anything explicitly stated in the rules.[/li][li]Some third party players may have exclusive win conditions (ie, win conditions that preclude Town and/or Scum wins), while others may be nonexclusive (that is, able to win with any side).[/li][li]No recruitment or changes of alignment will occur at any time.[/li][/ol]

> [li]There are no post restrictions. As long as you are alive, you may post whatever you like, wherever you like, whenever you like. You may quote your role PM, and any PM sent to you by the moderators. You may discuss strategy by Day or by Night. If you have access to outside boards, you may post to them on any subject at any time. If someone claims a post restriction of any kind, they are lying; lynch them.[/li][li]PLEASE NOTE: You are also permitted to edit your posts. Other players may frown upon a choice to do so, but the Moderators will not intervene in any case of post editing.[/li][li]No out-of-game communication related to the game is permitted among living players (that is, no PMing or e-mailing or using Facebook or complex codes based on banging together coconuts). [/li][li]In a game of this size, participation will be rigorously policed. Any player who goes a full Day-Night cycles without contributing to the thread will be replaced (if it is before Day Four and a replacement is available) or Mod-killed (if it is after Dawn of Day Four or if no replacement can be found). Obviously, exceptions will be made for unusual circumstances; all Mod-kills are at the absolute discretion of the Moderators. Players who are Mod-killed are considered to have lost the game no matter what else happens.[/li][/ol]

> \*\*[ol]
> [li]Every Day will begin exactly at 3:00PM Eastern Standard Time (noon Pacific) on a Tuesday, and end at exactly 3:00PM Eastern Standard Time (noon Pacific) on a Sunday. Each 5-day Day will be followed by a 2-day Night. The length of the Day and Night are fixed and cannot be shortened by any in-game mechanism. However, the moderators reserve the right to adjust the length of a given Day and/or Night if out of game circumstances warrant.[/li][li]The game includes both Night and Day powers. Orders for actions must be submitted to all three moderators before the 3:00PM EST deadline. Because of the large size of the game, absolutely no late orders will be accepted.[/li][li]Powers will always resolve at the Dusk or Dawn of the Day or Night, respectively, on which they are used; no powers will ever resolve in the middle of a Day or Night.[/li][/ol]

No vote or unvote will count unless formatted per the above, and no new vote will be counted without an unvote of any prior vote.[/li][li]There are no public or hidden powers whatsoever that affect the vote count in any way; if there is an apparent irregularity in the vote count, it is the result of moderator error.[/li][li]You may vote “No Lynch.” Please do so using purple text: vote No Lynch. So if two Town players are killed on Night One, then two lynches are available on Day Two. However, the number of available lynches can never exceed three under any circumstances.[/li][li]In all cases, the leading vote getter will be lynched as always. If at least 2 lynches are available on a given Day, the second-leading vote getter will also be lynched if (s)he has received more than 34% of the available votes. If at least 3 lynches are available on a given Day, the third-leading vote getter will be lynched if: (1) the second-leading vote getter is lynched; AND (2) the third-leading vote getting receives more than 10% of the available votes. [/li][li]PLEASE NOTE: If “No Lynch” is the leading vote-getter for any given Day, then no player will be lynched, even if more than 1 lynch is available and one or more players exceeds the threshold shown above.[/li][/ol]
> \*\*Win Conditions

Especially Biotop is usually heavy on analysis and less on the chit-chatty side of things. Prof. is more of a coin toss if you ask me.

I see you’ve since unvoted, and I said votes were free, but was that a poke vote, a vote for the sake of it, a vote because you think he’s scum, or a do what I say not what I do vote?

No, you’re right, the alignment is either Town, Mafia or Werewolves.

Do you go by a different name elsewhere?

I’m not feeling the case on septimus, the unvote and defense looks bad, but doesn’t feel bad.
I liked Chronos’ #450, Suburban’s sounding reasonable.
I am still comfortable with my vote on Colby, #478 and #497 sort of seal the deal for me.
I disliked Johnny B’s FOS but, short of hall monitoring, not seeing scum motivation
I’d vote Prof. P for active lurking plus voting the wrong player, Plumpudding for active lurking and then voting Biotop and Prof. P for doing it, ToeJam for N0 and going quiet after, raventhief for a series of one-liners and little else, Boozy of the vote in #540 for being irritated.
Who is Angelofthenorth, I thought s/he was a noob but apparently not?
Bufftabby, a ping, Drain too.

Hey, I linked to his D1 posts to date in [#388](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=19910064&postcount=388), I’ll wait here till you get back with an opinion.

@Plum, about “BUT there was a 5-out-of-6 chance for the shallow end of the pool containing at least one Scum.”, is that in 5 games out of 6 there was at least one scum in the bottom 25% of voters, or something else entirely?

Nearer to EOD, if Johnny gets votes from other Players I will review the cases against Johnny and others (ToeJam?) and make a final decision. It’s unlikely, but I might even have an intelligent comment on the case I select.

The real issue for me is, that when we bring all the semi-information into the game we run a risk of tainting the in-game-data.

“I don’t see the case because Player A always do that”

We all do it. I do it myself. We ignore Idle claiming vanilla and Meeko for writing in meekish.

And I know we can’t avoid it totally.

But I don’t recall - EVER - having played in a game where so many players did it on behalf of others.

Is it Scum-tell? Is it snuggling?

No. But it’s as valid as me posting stuff like:
I don’t need to be worried about bufftabby Day 1, because in every game we play together one of us is out by start of Day 2.

Is that valid? I can prove it to be true in sooo many games.

But it’s not data in THIS game.

And get of my lawn. Youngsters 😉

And it must be awful for a new player to try to make sense of it all. But with 55 players, it may be a coping mechanism - so and so sounds like always, not going to worry about him right now…

“I’m voting for **Player X**. Why? Eh…”
I think we may be zeroing in on why people continue to find your play suspicious

I believe that the rules are on **storyteller0910** profile page.

I have a question, which may have been answered. It’s for the group, but mods may also participate. There are several instances in the role document that refer to “third parties”. The role investigators, such as the Seer can receive a “third party” result for example. Do we have any information on what the third party (or parties) might be?

Also, sorry to ask this, but I’ve checked online and “full of shit” doesn’t seem to fit the usage I’m seeing here - what is FOS in the game context? 😕

One more question, while I have everyone’s attention. What is the protocol as the week closes: is it common to publicly re-assess your vote choice and present your argument?

**HookerChemical** did an assessment that reflects fairly accurately where I still stand on **ToeJam**. (Thank you kind sir)

What about the other “candidates” on the lynch list? Should we also be presenting any sort of assessment of our thoughts on their guilt or innocence?

**Angel** , for example. I don’t know what’s going on. In any other thread, I’d call it inability to let an argument die. She stated something that could easily be attributed to a work/life situation. She could have easily asked for help in taking care of it (link to rules, roles, stated when she could get to it, whatever), but instead it’s like she’s going for suicide for mob or mod. I can’t tell if she’s town or scum, but she’s making it irrelevant.

Would this sort of assessment about **Septimus** or **Johnny Bravo** be appropriate as the week closes?

I’m sure I’ll have a few more questions as the week closes. Thanks everyone for letting me join the reunion. 🙂

FOS = “Finger of Suspicion”

It is pointed at the person whose behavior is not quite vile enough to warrant a lynch vote, but who must be called out as someone to keep a careful eye on…

@Suburban, sounds like frustration to me.
@SunnyDaze, FOS=finger of suspicion, there’s a mafia [wiki](http://wiki.mafiascum.net/index.php?title=Finger_of_Suspicion&redirect=no).
We know what the rules say about third parties, there are some, but it’s secret, some may steal the win and win alone, others may share the win with whoever else wins the game. The color suggests there are 4 third parties but that could be misinformation.
Do what makes you feel comfortable, there no hard and fast rules, but as the week progresses, you should have much more information to help form suspicions which may result in a new vote, or reinforce your original one. Sharing your thoughts can help others get a read on you, bring attention to players that others may not notice, and if you are town and get killed or lynched, leave valuable honest input.
