Questions:

1. Why was \*\*Thingfish \*\*chosen last night?
2. Why did **Sario** vote for **Sangfroid** instead of **Plum** Day befote yesterDay?
3. Why didn’t more wolves sign onto the **Plum** -as-wolf theory proposed by **Thing Fish**?
4. Why didn’t any wolves try and save **Sario**?

Checking in to stay up on things.

I too am trying a whole reread (skimming a few areas I know reasonably well) to get what I can out of it. Damned if it ain’t a slog, though. I can see how the wolves have it so much easier on that front - no need to dig like everyone else. Just lie well.

I can also see the value in keeping a spreadsheet - as mentioned early in the game somewhere - of some sort. This is something I now wish I had done, as I understand them and how they work. Going back over everything in a thread this large is not only tedious, but prone to error and self-fulfilling prophecies, at least for me. I’m seeing things I sort of want to, and I’m certain I am missing other keys that I should not.
I’m going to keep trying, though. If anything stands out, I’ll certainly post it. I’m still a bit gun-shy (rope-shy?) after the **Tex** debacle, but at this stage of the game, I guess the best we can do is try to win for those we lost, as was also mentioned back a ways.

At the risk of sounding like a mynah bird: Rather than picking up where I left off, I too am undertaking a re-read of the entire game. (And yeah, it ain’t exactly light reading.) I’m not overly happy with my voting record thus far and I’m trying to chuck my preconceptions and look at everything afresh. Though slow going, it is enlightening, so I’m hopeful the **Plum** mislynch was a bump in the road and we can get back the momentum of Days 3 and 4.

So, I went through and counted the number of posts for the remaining nine of us over the course of the five days, not including anything before Day One, and not including the night fluff. FYI.

In order of the number of posts:

Biotop: 48 + 21 + 23 + 28 + 28 = 143
Prof. P: 18 + 17 + 13 + 09 + 15 = 72
Jimmy C: 17 + 11 + 10 + 12 + 09 = 59
P’Mollusc: 09 + 16 + 08 + 08 + 12 = 53
Sangfroid: 10 + 04 + 04 + 08 + 17 = 43
Nonsuch: 12 + 18 + 04 + 06 + 02 = 42
J Bravo: 10 + 12 + 08 + 02 + 09 = 41
Diggit: 10 + 05 + 06 + 03 + 07 = 31
Cygnus: 12 + 04 + 03 + 02 + 07 = 28

**Prof. P.** :

I think voting record is way more important than postings. One thing I have learned from this game is that if I am ever playing Mafia again and am given a scum role, I am going to fill the pages with helpful town postings. I think somewhere in this game there might be a wolf who is very good at it.

**Johnny Bravo** , I have a question for you.

I am having problems putting together a reasonable list of the three remaining wolves that doesn’t include you.

**Could you tell me who you think the remaining three wolves are and why?**

O First Mason, I must respectfully disagree.
Take a look at the Town who have departed. All of them posted as much as I did, and most posted at the level you do. Chronos said in an early post that we should lynch the lurkers, and he was right: almost all that are left are the lurkers. Sario lurked. JSexton was being criticized on Day Two for not posting much.

DiggitCamara and Johnny Bravo are the two being voted for at the moment, and they are both in the bottom three of my postings list.

But, yeah, voting is crucial too. Back to my datasheets.

Lunch at the mill.

You are right, **Prof. P.**. All I am saying is that I have tended to think pro-town posts are very good indicators of alliance, but I also now recognize that a good wolf would make several pro-town posts as well. But it is more dsngerous for a wolf to make pro-town votes.

</div>

Check my reasoning:
Biotop is Town as he is revealed First Mason.
Cygnus and I are Town if only because we voted and lynched Sario in a very close election.
Sangfroid is Town because Sario voted for him, and, with other Town candidates to choose from, it doesn’t make any sense for Sario to vote for him if he was scum.
Diggit is Town because Thing Fish showed that it didn’t make sense for Plum to be Town and Diggit then be scum.

That leaves four candidates:

Jimmy Chitwood, Johnny Bravo, Nonsuch and Precambrianmollusc,

with Jimmy being generally considered to be the most likely to be Town.

Or am I wrong? And, if so, how?

</div>

Your criteria change, you have you , bio cygnus and sangfroid as town because of what they have done , you have Diggit as town because of what someone else said about them. Hardly the same standard. Can you summarise why you think Diggit is town , maybe give us your interpretation of what thing fish said?
Off to track that post down as well.
It seams odd to me ( not saying it would appear odd to anyone else) that you would give someone i think as wolf such an easy town pass. Obviously it may not seam odd to anyone else, this is purely based on my own thoughts on who is what, a christ knows i have been wrong a lot, although in good company on that 😉

> This is very interesting. The three people who are not voting are players who I think are probably Town, so that means that all the wolves are probably voting for either\*\* Diggit \*\*or **Plumpudding**. If one of them is a wolf, at least two and likely three of the wolves are probably voting for the other guy. If we are really good and they are both wolves, the third must be trying to ride the bus of one of the others (or I am wrong about one of the nonvoters). If they are both town, it seems to me that the scum are quite likely **Nonsuch, Bravo, and precambrian.**

> [@Thing\_Fish](#):
>
> I have completed the first two days of my reread focused on the six people in my undecided pool, and specifically on instances where they expressed opinions about the relative towniess or scumminess of others. I doubt the wolves will bother me tonight, but just in case, here is the gist of what I’ve found.
>
> **Diggit** was pretty quiiet. The only two players he commented on were the two he voted for, **Dante G** and **septiums.**. Pretty easy to imagine that as a wolf lying low on anti-Town bandwagons (or, of course, not).
>
> precambrian was much more effusive with his townie leans, looking with approval on **JSexton, Chronos, Biotop, TexCat, septimus, and Plumpudding.**. He was most critical of **me and sangfroid** ,(for both of whom he voted) and also of **Dante G and TexCat**. That’s not really a great record. I think\*\* sangfroid’s\*\* town and I know I’m town. If Plumpudding is scum, he would have had scum overrepresented on his good list too.
>
> \*\*Nonsuch \*\*had pro-town reads on **Chronos, Biotop, and me** , and scummy reads on JSexton, precambrian, TexCat, and septimus. He reversed himself twice, being for **Dante G** before he was against him and against **Plumpudding b** efore he was for him. The reversals don’t look great, but overall a fairly credible record, especially if precambrian is scum.
>
> Jimmy Chitwood has given a lot of pro-town advice and frequently confronted people saying things that don’t make sense, but hasn’t had a whole lot to say about the possible alignments of other players; he was suspicious of **Bayard, JSexton, Dante G, me and Plumpudding.**. The only player he viewed as townie was **septimus** , and that was after earlier being suspcious of him. So if\*\* Plumpudding i\*\*s scum he is batting .400.
>
> I also noticed two things which I think are strong Town indicators for both Chitwood and Nonsuch; as far as I can tell (and I may well have missed something because I was skimming everyone else’s posts pretty quickly), they were the first two players to suggest that Day One’s mayhem might have been motivated by scum protecting **JSexton.** , **Jimmy i** n 874-5 and\*\* Nonsuch\*\* in 900. That doesn’t seem like the sort of thing scum would want to enter into the conversation.
>
> **Bravo was pretty focused. He never had anything good to say about anyone and was quite suspicious of TexCat, septimus, and me** , and also once of **Dante G.**. That’s not great.
>
> \*\*Plumpudding \*\*looked townishly on \*\*JSexton, Biotop, me,Mahaloth, and Chitwood. \*\*He initially suspected \*\*Cygnus \*\*but then felt he was town.He was suspicious of, in roughtly descending order, **TexCat, septiums, Dante G, precambrian,** \*\*sangfroid \*\*(although he changed his mind and thought sangfroid was town late in Day One), **Johnny Bravo, Bayard, Chrono** s (after first thinking he was town), and **Professor P.**. So kind of all over the place and inconsistent, but of course it was very early in the game.
>
> THEREFORE, if I remove **Chitwood and Nonsuch** from the list of suspects and look at the current vote count, I see two possibilities:
>
> 1. \*\*Diggit \*\*is Town and the wolves are **precambrian, Plum and Bravo.**
>
> 2. **Diggit and Plum are both scum, and so is either precambrian or Bravo.**
>
> The scenario where \*\*Plum \*\*is town and **Diggit** scum makes no sense, because two of his voters would have to be fellow wolves. And of course if they are both town. I have been wrong about at least one of the people I am calling town.

1. screw with us was what i mentioned back at the beginning of the day, also just could be wolf team melt downs, lack of wolf participation maybe. it also could have been that TF was making persuasive arguments that were leading town and now we are getting down to the wire if TF had analyzed a wolf , TF could probably have summoned up a reasonable lynch mob to follow him.

2. this is the ongoing mystery, possibly because Sario was not paying attention or frantic, and chose poorly. Maybe they didnt have a lot of other options, ( DC and tne other 2 voter being scum) why not me, probably thought I’d get myself lynched and he didn’t want to be the final vote who lynched a town.?
This does go hand in hand with why Sangers didnt vote to save themseves as odd.

3. if they saw town was going to lynch PPudding , no need to get involved. However how do you knwo more wolves didnt sign on, they had nonsuch and DC already on plum, so only one other wolf to swing it. It also could be that they were happy with either a DC or PPud lynch, which puts DC in a slightly better light. Although for me that means either SF or Prof P get a bit more stagnant pond odor.

4. god knows, why didn’t SF vote to save themsleves? Why not save sario, Lack of attention by the other wolves , not online, or thought that being the alpha , Sario would swing the vote. Although they would have to have suspected that none of the Sario voters were the first mason, or just not thinking. Texcat was on the Sangfroid vote, and was getting heat for possibly being the alpha, so having the actual alpha vote for sangfroid could have helped get Texcat lynched. Might explain why sario picked sangfroid.

You really need to focus less on the dead instead of the living.

</div>

**PCM** , I will repeat what I said before about why **Sario** voted for me - I’m Town, and he knew it. Only my word, I know.

Much of that bizarre situation was my fault for having something of a death wish (at the time) and hoping my lynch (since I was already under suspicion) would reveal something to Town. I also generally don’t like switching votes at deadline unless absolutely necessary.

You still seem to want to cast aspersions my way.
I’ve been equally curious about your motivations since [this post](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=18542063&postcount=411) way back at 411.

From your own post, these were the only players out of the whole starting field you had absolutely nothing to say about:

Cygnus42
DiggitCamara
Jimmy Chitwood
Johnny Bravo
Nonsuch
Sario

…and yourself, of course, because it was your post. Unless you being “The Towniest Town Person of All” counts as commentary.

Of most of the others, you had quite a bit to say, some of which is also rather interesting.

Now review the remaining living players and their post counts (as supplied by **ProfP** ), just for reference.

Biotop: 48 + 21 + 23 + 28 + 28 = 143
Prof. P: 18 + 17 + 13 + 09 + 15 = 72
Jimmy C: 17 + 11 + 10 + 12 + 09 = 59
P’Mollusc: 09 + 16 + 08 + 08 + 12 = 53
Sangfroid: 10 + 04 + 04 + 08 + 17 = 43
Nonsuch: 12 + 18 + 04 + 06 + 02 = 42
J Bravo: 10 + 12 + 08 + 02 + 09 = 41
Diggit: 10 + 05 + 06 + 03 + 07 = 31
Cygnus: 12 + 04 + 03 + 02 + 07 = 28

Either you are one excellent clairvoyant, or you conveniently left out comments on quite a few, if not most, of those being really looked at right now, late in the game. Four are also among the lowest post count players, but this I take with a grain of salt, as I didn’t post much at the start, but have been trying damn hard to make sense of things since.

I didn’t like that vote for me then, and I still don’t.

In hindsight, it looks even more curious to me. Sure, not everyone unmentioned in that early-ish post can be wolf at this point. But is sure seems…eerily accurate as to who you chose not to discuss at that time, and who is still left alive, be they wolf OR Town.
Comments from those remaining?

Votes for me without actually giving a reasoning. Or, if you will, he’s just riding on someone else’s opinion. As you can see below, he didn’t even use the purposed victim’s current vote to ride on.

What I’ve come to call a “filler” post. Not really antagonistic, just clarifying stuff. And in my mind, at this point of the game, it’s just someone who wants to keep a presence without having to actually justify himself.

When called on it, gives a flimsy excuse to keep his vote on someone who he judges to be impopular at the time. And doesn’t even follow up on his promise, later on.

It’s often a scum desperation move - a scum self-votes to try and make people say something like, “this reaction seems pretty genuinely frustrated, maybe he is town after all!”

Filler stuff. Again.

All in all, keeping quietly in the background, not advocating a real, probably impopular position (which townfolk are bound to do). In that sense I guess Prof. Pepperwinkle’s post counts have some kind of merit, but still I’d like to see how the two dead scumfolk behaved (in comparison to our current dead townies).

(sad though that we don’t have Chronos around to give some more actual weight to those kind of theories. It’s the kind of thing he excels at).

And if he was focusing on the dead people’s post, you might be right (I actually feel that during our games around here we tend to forget a player as soon as (s)he disappears from the field. And that’s wrong).

But he’s meta-gaming. He’s trying to guess what unexplained motivation lies behind some action, instead of bringing up what those people actually said or did. And with those people I believe the focus should be, if anything, on voting patterns and/or trying to get at the implied truth(s) behind the known Wolves.

The questions, to not forget them, are:

> [@Bayard](#):
>
> 1. Why was Thingfish chosen last night?
> 2. Why did Sario vote for Sangfroid instead of Plum Day befote yesterDay?
> 3. Why didn’t more wolves sign onto the Plum-as-wolf theory proposed by Thing Fish?
> 4. Why didn’t any wolves try and save Sario?

1. Look at Thingfish’s quotes. Find a smoking gun? Point us towards it. But don’t waste too much time on it, you’re trying to second guess people who behind the curtains have been talking about it. Past games have shown that some votes are completely capricious.
2. Look at the voting pattern at the time. But unless you actually know Sangfroid’s alignment, you have incomplete information.
3. I honestly don’t know what the use of this question is.
4. Good question. That one’s actually worthwhile investigating (I think).

It’s getting late and I hope I’ll be able to follow up on some of these points myself. But, after all, that’s why we are a team, aren’t we? So I propose: let’s get cracking!

Or, why not: follow up on **Biotop** ’s excellent advice from a couple of Days ago. Post your suspicions, why you have them. Maybe we can form a real consensus and not whatever happened yesterDay…
