Sorry to double-post but I can’t believe EOD is tomorrow morning and we only have five votes. Yipe. You guys who unvoted **septimus** \* need to hurry and find a new candidate, please.

- Which I totally understand – we have an uncontested doctor here, so unless one of the _eight_ (!!!) continual lurkers is gonna rise up and counter-claim, **septimus** is probably safe.

choie, I just got the chance to read your case against Inner Stickler and I can’t fault you voting him based on your analysis. But overall, I did not find his play as scummy as you did, even while reading your case. I thought a lot of it was just a playstyle difference.

Also, you mention that he did not comment on fisha’s death even though he was one of her voters. I don’t find this unusual and you will notice I did not comment on it either. I have taken part in killing enough teammates that I think I have gotten over the guilt of it. Also, (and this applies primarily to newer players) it is often considered a scum tell to show much remorse about a townie dying.

You are correct, though, that his posts contain a high proportion of “helpful” content. And that could very well be a way that he is trying to hide as scum.
I am going to review Scathach now (or maybe after the poker game).

A couple of thoughts.

Are we going to buy a Doctor claim with a dead bodyguard?

I suppose it’s possible, but it makes me wonder what the Scum team has if we had 2 protective roles. Maybe that lends a little more support to a Serial Killer.

I remember playing with fubbles before, but I don’t remember this style of play. Does anyone with a better memory have an opinion?

For the time being

**Vote: fubbleskag**

I really can’t play in 3 games at once with this level of apathy for doing research.

Once again I get votes because people think I’m a better player than I am. It would be heartwarming if it weren’t so depressing.

I am agreed with guiri that septimus being alive tomorrow says nothing about his alignment and if scum have a roleblocker then he’s already screwed anyway.

The only other game I remember playing with fubbles was Meeko’s zoo game where he, as the cop, apparently incorrectly reported his investigations for at least two people. We never got an answer as to why that happened, as I recall.

Sorry I haven’t posted nearly as much as I probably should, between work, and my wife’s honey do list, and well, my procrastination (yea, I’m a serial procrastinator… I knew I had to post, so I put it off.. Sorry…), I haven’t spent as much time as I should here. Specially with the day ending… Well, I’ve read though the thread, and I’ve decieded who seems scummiest to me, and will go ahead and vote. (What time Friday is EOD again anyhow?)

**Vote Scathach**

Here is Scathach’s posts so far (since the game started, excluded posts before the confirmation), and the reason I voted.

> [@Scathach](#):
>
> Because sweeping in, picking one post and going “Aha! Here is scum!” has yet to work out for me unfortunately.
>
> I don’t know enough about game balance to do much speculating about mechanics, so the only thing I can do is comment on people’s posts.

Mentions that she doesn’t know about game balance, so can only comment on posts, yet, she doesn’t seem to do much actual posting about peoples posts.

> [@Scathach](#):
>
> Yeah, I think this is a lot of the problem with talking on D1. It usually ends up as lynching the loud.
>
> I always end up hugely overthinking everything I say (and that’s not just D1, it’s the whole game). Like, in different games, I’ve gotten heat for voting too early, for voting too late, for “indecisive” language, for everything really. I suppose the thing to do is just not take any of it too seriously and talk away anyway (it’s only a game right:) ) But damned if it’s not hard to get defensive and aggrieved when someone is calling you scummy when you’re town.
>
> It’s a lot easier a day or two in, where you at least begin to find people actually scummy or not. D1 I never really have a suspect, so I end up doing a crappy vote and rightfully getting called for it. ☹

Can’t really complain too much about her complaining about Day one. I’ve always hated day one myself, never have a clue on who to vote for. I missed day one myself, so can’t call her on that.

> [@Scathach](#):
>
> Gah!
>
> Look, I’ve tried vote early vote often, I’ve tried pick a bandwagon, now I’m trying to just comment on posts that stick out to me.
>
> I don’t find Mahaloth hugely scummy, especially since his later clarification posts. But I really really didn’t find fubbleskag’s post scummy, so I posted to disagree with him. That’s pretty much it.
>
> It’s either that or just not post at all, and that’s not even anti town or anti scum, it’s anti game.

Says who isn’t scummy, doesn’t give any posts about who might be. Again, day one, hard to tell on people then, but she isn’t really commenting on posts like she said she would do on her first post.

> [@Scathach](#):
>
> This is where I tend to fall down. Usually anything I think has already been articulated much better by someone else. So chiming in with a “Hell yeah, me too” does nothing for anyone. Or else I’ll make what I think is a particularly brilliant and scintillating case against someone, which everyone will promptly ignore.
>
> In any case, in the last few games, I spend all of day 1 defending myself for my first or second post. Which gives me plenty to talk about unfortunately :o
>
> Sorry, I swear after this post I will try and look at other people rather than repeatedly defending myself.

She says she’ll look at other people after this post, but I still haven’t seen her actually scum hunting.

> [@Scathach](#):
>
> Ok, this is a good point. So, of the people with votes:
>
> Svejk: Slight town lean
> Fluiddruid: No lean
> PCM: Slight scum
> wevets: Strong town
> Mahaloth: No lean.
> Silver Jan: Slight scum. (sorry!, it’s the lack of fluff)
> Choie: Slight town

A list of people who have voted, and her lean on them. No comment on why, or where, just a “lean”. Why does she have these impressions? Why does she find someone town or scum?

> [@Scathach](#):
>
> No, it’s just impressions.
>
> Svejk: Newbie. Posting a lot, eager, trying to figure out game etc. Just comes across townie to me.

> PCM:
>
> Vote’s someone for trying to start discussion. (Someone who I think is town, which obviously colours things).
>
> Just don’t like it. Scum lean
> ..more coming…

A little bit more on listing people, but still doesn’t give good reasons for any leanings.

> [@Scathach](#):
>
> Wevets: Newbie. Also contributing a lot. Again, nothing I can point to as town, but to me it just seems really townie.
>
> Mahaloth: I’ve talked about previously. On balance, he comes across town, if anything just because he reacted to my post. (in my experience) Scum try to ignore accusations unless a few pile up.
>
> Silver Jan: Just usually posts more fluff. Like, it almost seems as if she’s deliberately not trying to do anything to garner suspicion.
>
> Choie: Honestly, I dunno. Mainly because I played with her before in a game where she was town and she seems to be playing similarly. And I guess after that game I just associate her name with town.
>
> Those are my reasons, terrible as most of them are.

Still, lists everyone as town, can’t find anything “scummy” with them, she just seems to list everyone as “I don’t know” or town… The only one she has any scum lean on is **Silver Jan** , but she can’t give a reason.

> [@Scathach](#):
>
> Oh crap, sorry you guys. I misread when EOD was and didn’t get a vote in. ☹

She was pretty active on day one, at least compared to some people (like me!), yet, she never voted, and never then claims not knowing when EOD was. This sounds like a scum who was planning on voting at the last second, yet forgot when EOD was, so missed the last second…

Again, hard for me to judge someone for not voting on day one, since after all, I missed the whole freaking day. I know my excuse was because of work, but she was here, and her only excuse is “I forgot when EOD was”…

> [@Scathach](#):
>
> In fairness, she has a point. I don’t disagree that RL can get in the way, but as a townie lynched out of a three way tie I can see how it’s irritating to have 5 people not vote. And as it happens, I would probably have voted PCM, which would have saved her. (Although the fact that he could have voted to save himself and didn’t makes me lean town on him now:smack:)
>
> Actually, the fact that the tie was left happen makes me think that all three candidates are more likely to be town. Well, all two now I guess.

Says she would have voted for someone that would have saved the townie lynch… even though it is too late to do anything.. Seems to me like saying “If only I knew when EOD was, I would have saved the townie, and we would have gotten the scum!!!”… Seems she is saying the lynch wasn’t her fault… if (or as I believe when) **Scathach** flips scum, I would check out the other two candidates, since she seems to be defending them, there might be a scum in one of them.

> [@Scathach](#):
>
> PCM I think, as stated here [http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=14524071&postcount=391](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=14524071&postcount=391) .

Just a link to her previous post.

> [@Scathach](#):

>
> Even his vote managed not to actually say anything too controversial, only repeating cases against other players.

(Vote bleached)

No comments about the deaths of two town power roles at the end of the night. No sadness, or wondering how it happened. Just starting out voting for someone, for what I think is a poor reason. Seems to me like she is trying to get a vote in, because she missed the previous day, without thinking through case. This vote might be ok on Day 1, but, it seems to be stretching it for a day 2 post (IMHO of course).

> [@Scathach](#):
>
> \*\*
> Will Hirka T’Bawa be mod-killed if he continues not to post
> \*\*

Ok, I admit I might have deserved a comment about this, after all, I never did post. I’ll also admit, this is the post that really made me look at **Scathach** in the first place. I’d expect a townie player to post something about asking for a mod message to nudge me to play, or a sub to be found. But, **Scathach** went right into looking for a mod-kill. Since I know I’m town, this looks to me like a scum trying to get an extra kill without any work.

I admit, it put her on my radar, and made me look into her posts. I hope the fact the comment was against me, won’t turn anyone off my case against her.

> [@Scathach](#):
>
> In order:
> -Yeah I missed EOD, can’t defend myself from that one, it is what it is.
> -Why do you think I might have rushed to get a vote in after missing EOD the Day before?
> -What analysis is there to do? Speculate on whether there’s a Vig or an SK? What good does that possibly do?
> -Why are you so certain Hirka is town?
>
> As for Inner Stickler, I was reading over people’s Day 1 posts and his stuck out to me the most, so I voted.

She is defending herself from **Švejk** ’s comments, still doesn’t make a valid case against anyone.

> [@Scathach](#):
>
> Honestly, I think this makes you look worse than Fubbleskag. It’s a newbie game, and the “abstain” thing strikes me as way more townie than scummy simply because I don’t think scum would take such a massive risk so early on. (in a way that is very unlikely to convince anyone too).
>
> Jumping all over something like this strikes me as an easy vote if anything.

Accuses **Mahaloth** of making an easy vote, while I haven’t really weighed **Mahaloth** ’s vote too much, this comment seems more like the type a scum would make to try deflecting a vote onto someone else.

> [@Scathach](#):
>
> Eh, I think he has the post that has stood out as the most suspicious to me so far? I mean it’s hardly definitive.

So **Mahaloth** ’s post is the most suspicious of all the posts you have seen so far? Then, why is your vote still on **Inner Stickler**? If he is really the most suspicious, I would expect a vote change, or at least a comment debating between the two.
So far, of all the people I see posting, the scummiest person I’ve noticed is [Scathach\*\*. I believe I’m correct in this vote, and honestly, this is the first time I’ve ever actually been confident in a vote I’ve placed in a long time…

I reviewed Scathach (since I thought Svejk’s case seemed reasonable) and fubbleskag(since he pinged me while I was reviewing other player’s yesterday) and I am going to

**Vote Scathach**

Honestly, I didn’t find the case as strong on review as I thought I would based on Svejk’s post. But I feel she stills comes across as the scummiest player besides septimus. The primary indicator to me was her “lean town”, “lean scum” evaluations of players without any real reasoning. Along with the fact that she seemed to be avoiding commenting on several players and could only say “lean scum” about a couple.

Yowsa. Talk about a bandwagon. I’m just not seeing the scumminess in **Scathach** , but God knows this wouldn’t be the first time I didn’t see a scum right in front of me.

I do believe she’ll flip scum… However, I will mention, I didn’t realize there was a “bandwagon” on her at the time I started to compose my post. I started composing my post earlier in the day before **septimus** even made his claim… just took me a long time to actually complete the post (that’s what happens when the wife is still awake).

Though, I do believe this is all besides the point, since I really do have a scum feeling from **Scathach** , and honestly believe I’ve picked correctly.

When I was doing my vote list up above, I originally wrote (joke vote) after the first two votes of the game, because I honestly thought they weren’t seriously meant. Then, as I went on, I started to realize that Guiri really meant those votes, because after her second vote, she never moved.

Here are those two votes:

> [@GuiriEnEspana](#):
>
> **Vote InnerStickler**
> For being first to confirm, scum are uber eager to get started.

> [@GuiriEnEspana](#):
>
> NETA
> **Unvote
> Vote Choie**
>
> For being the first and for doing it in green.

These posts, #81 and #82 respectively, are the first and second votes of the game. 294 posts will follow these before Day ends, but Guiri never budges. Her output is tremendous (43 posts so far, 4th highest in game) and extremely helpful, asking questions, poking, and prodding. But it boggles my mind that nothing in those 294 posts strikes her as more compelling than her original off the cuff vote for Choie.

Guiri does claim that of the top three, she’d prefer to see Precambrian die:

> [@GuiriEnEspana](#):
>
> Just under 2 hours left in the Day, 5 non voters, including Scathach who’s been participating, and a three way tie with just three votes each.
>
> Of the top three, I’d prefer to see Precambrian lynched but don’t have a townie vibe from any of them.

But Guiri doesn’t move her vote. Guiri will later say something slightly different:

> [@GuiriEnEspana](#):

I feel that Guiri’s Day 1 votes are _terrible_, and her voting ignores the entirety of Day 1. She makes a ton of comments and questions about other players, but never enforces her suspicions with a vote. She has no opinion on the three top lynch options of the day. There’s a lot of talk, but it never seems to go anywhere. I really want to vote Guiri for these reasons.

But, I’m torn. Guiri’s output today has been pretty solid. I found the case on Septimus enticing… it seems to be a solid bit of townie casemaking. You have to ignore the results, obviously; outing a possible Doctor is no bueno. The case itself seemed genuine, though.

I’ll need to consider other options before deciding if Guiri warrants my vote.

In a separate post, because it has nothing to do with Guiri:

I left my vote on the player I wanted to see lynched. I explained why I hadn’t moved my vote [here](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=14518722&postcount=332), it was no longer a joke vote and had reasons to suspect she was scum. I didn’t find the cases against the main lynch candidates compelling in [#350](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=14520753&postcount=350). In #368 I referred to the to the top three candidates but my vote on choie indicated my preferred candidate who was within one vote of the leaders.

Back shortly.

Woah, didn’t see the massive bandwagon coming when I signed off last night :o

Ok, I know I haven’t been very active this week, incredibly busy at work culminating in getting sick on Wednesday and taking Thursday off sick (hence why I sounded so cranky in defending myself when I posted yesterday).

I haven’t done a big Wall-of-Words on Inner because I was in a rush when I posted, knew I’d be busy and wanted to make absolutely certain I’d have a a vote in this time. But really, there isn’t much to say on why I voted for him, when I read over all his posts (I was reading through the posts of everyone I didn’t have a town lean on in order) it just really stood out to me that he’d posted an awful lot of help and snuggling and that was about it, even his vote was as noncontroversial as possible.

Now, lynching me isn’t the absolute worst **role claim** …Vanilla Townie 🙂 So at least you won’t lose a power role over this.

I stand by my vote on Inner. But I also don’t like Hirka’s reasons for voting me. Just going to comment on a few parts of his post. (in spoilers for size)

> [@Hirka\_T\_Bawa](#):
>
> A list of people who have voted, and her lean on them. No comment on why, or where, just a “lean”. Why does she have these impressions? Why does she find someone town or scum?
> A little bit more on listing people, but still doesn’t give good reasons for any leanings.

I had already said that I didn’t have any good cases so I hated chiming in with me too on other’s cases. However, people said that it’s worth agreeing or disagreeing or at least getting your thoughts out there so I did. Those posts were not “making cases” - they were infodumps of what I thought.

> [@Hirka\_T\_Bawa](#):
>
> She was pretty active on day one, at least compared to some people (like me!), yet, she never voted, and never then claims not knowing when EOD was. This sounds like a scum who was planning on voting at the last second, yet forgot when EOD was, so missed the last second…
>
> Again, hard for me to judge someone for not voting on day one, since after all, I missed the whole freaking day. I know my excuse was because of work, but she was here, and her only excuse is “I forgot when EOD was”…

My forgetting when EOD was is more scummy than you not posting for the whole day?

> [@Hirka\_T\_Bawa](#):
>
> Says she would have voted for someone that would have saved the townie lynch… even though it is too late to do anything.. Seems to me like saying “If only I knew when EOD was, I would have saved the townie, and we would have gotten the scum!!!”… Seems she is saying the lynch wasn’t her fault… if (or as I believe when) **Scathach** flips scum, I would check out the other two candidates, since she seems to be defending them, there might be a scum in one of them.

I said I would have voted for PCM (who you’ll note, I said I had a scum lean on earlier in the day). I also said that I now thought PCM was probably town. So I certainly wasn’t claiming I would have saved a town player.

> [@Hirka\_T\_Bawa](#):
>
> No comments about the deaths of two town power roles at the end of the night. No sadness, or wondering how it happened. Just starting out voting for someone, for what I think is a poor reason. Seems to me like she is trying to get a vote in, because she missed the previous day, without thinking through case. This vote might be ok on Day 1, but, it seems to be stretching it for a day 2 post (IMHO of course).

I really don’t understand why people think me posting “Oh shucks, two more town down. Wonder if we have a Vig or SK” would have been so super townie but fair enough. I don’t really post at night either if there’s no strategy talk allowed because I think it’s pointless. As for my vote on Inner, fine it’s more of a gut feeling than anything else. YMMV and obviously does.

> [@Hirka\_T\_Bawa](#):
>
> Ok, I admit I might have deserved a comment about this, after all, I never did post. I’ll also admit, this is the post that really made me look at **Scathach** in the first place. I’d expect a townie player to post something about asking for a mod message to nudge me to play, or a sub to be found. But, **Scathach** went right into looking for a mod-kill. Since I know I’m town, this looks to me like a scum trying to get an extra kill without any work.

Fair enough really, I should have said mod nudge. But I was mildly grumpy that I was getting a lot of crap for missing EOD when you’d missed the whole thing.

> [@Hirka\_T\_Bawa](#):
>
> So **Mahaloth** ’s post is the most suspicious of all the posts you have seen so far? Then, why is your vote still on **Inner Stickler**? If he is really the most suspicious, I would expect a vote change, or at least a comment debating between the two.

This is completely unfair. I posted that at very near the beginning of Day 1, and you’re asking me why I voted someone differently on Day 2? Because I subsequently found someone more suspicious, I mean, how is this even a question?

> [@Hirka\_T\_Bawa](#):
>
> I believe I’m correct in this vote, and honestly, this is the first time I’ve ever actually been confident in a vote I’ve placed in a long time…

Prepare to be disappointed. 😛

Meh. I’ve expressed suspicion of Scathach previously, mainly due to our interactions on D1 in relation to her smudge on Mahaloth and lack of involvement, but I am not a fan of these votes on her:

- Inner votes Scathach without comment, absolutely no justification? There were votes on Special Ed, Fubbles and myself, why choose Scathach?

- Hirka confuses her posts, and doesn’t seem to notice that Wevets is also dead. I’ll use his own words back at him: “Seems to me like [del]s[/del]he is trying to get a vote in, because she missed the previous day, without thinking through case.”

I’d be happy lynching either of these, even if it means voting with Scathach and Choie

**Vote Inner**

Ok, this is a bit meta, but when I get lynched I think it’s worth looking at the people who defended me. The only people (except for me) that know I’m town right now are scum. So it’s very easy to give yourself town credit by defending a lynch candidate that you know is going to flip town. (In the Small Town game over on Idlemafia, when I was lynched and got spoiled, I was really surprised to find that all the people I thought were super townie because they’d been defending me turned out to be scum.)

So, in particular, Guiri, who’s doing some astonishing bending over backwards to avoid voting for me even though he’s already said he finds me suspicious. And possibly, although less so, choie, even though she seems really townie to me. (but I’m really bad at this game so that’s practically a scum tell :D)

I was feeding the poop-machine with one hand and his post said everything I wanted to say at the time, so it was easier to copy/paste (technically, I actually quoted and removed the quote tags) than to type it out. and yet again, I predicted to myself that it would be **Guiri** that noticed I’d done this - paying far too much attention to detail to be scum in my opinion.

not apparently, I did. and I think it may have been three people.

another detail. I’d like to ask everyone to post the subject line of their role PM if they don’t mind. mine was “Role PM (mafia)” as opposed to being labelled “(town)” or “(scum)” specifically.

the case on **Scathach** only got one 🙂 on my first review, and I haven’t had a chance to review it further or do any of my own comprehensive reviews, so I’m hesitant to place a vote there right now.

**vote Septimus**
