# Magdalene not prostitute

Catholic church even issued encyclical or some such thing negating it. Forget all the stupid da Vinci code explanations…she just wasn’t…someone else can provide the proof.

This is already being discussed in [another thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=309726) here in this forum. Short answer is, Cecil knows that she wasn’t, but was running out of space in the print column, so left out the explanation of “a lot of folks think she was a prostitute, but there’s no evidence for that”. The [online version of the column](http://www.straightdope.com/columns/050401.html), however, has no such length restriction, and has been corrected.
