I think it’s fascinating to watch Magnum P.I. and see the changing perception of masculine beauty. When’s the last time you saw a modern guy’s legs presented as a sexual object? (Particularly a fully-clothed modern guy?)

By fully clothed I do mean by 80’s standards, of course, as some of his shorts are a little frightening these days.

> Other time he came on with his own short film, which depicted his life while Magnum was a hit and what it became after _The Cosby Show_ came on and dominated his time slot. While Magnum was a hit he had a chauffer driven limo, network suits at his beck and call, and women swooning at his feet. After Cosby came on Selleck had to take the bus to work, show 3 forms of I.D. to get onto the studio lot, and then sweep up after everyone else had gone home.

:dubious:

Really?

Hehe, or mustache’s and hairy chests. You don’t see many “hunks” with a mustache or a hairy chest any more.

It’s funny, my wife, who is not as into Magnum as I am, but who appreciates the show for what it is, always has to call attention to the chest and leg shots:

_“And there it is, the-Magnum-has-his-shirt-off-shot! For the tenth time this episode.”_😉

I’ve noticed in some of the earlier episodes that sometimes he appears to take his shirt for no good reason, just so they could get a chest shot in.

_“Boy, he sure does change his shirt a lot. Not that I mind anyway.”_

There’s my wife again. 😉

No, it was a joke film. Funny, though.

I wouldn’t say **frightening** myself. And hey, he had great legs! Like **EJsGirl** I just plain liked Tom Selleck on Magnum and on Friends. I would have liked him to stay on Friends longer.

…I was thinking about this episode and this thread yesterday, wondering how realistic it would be to tread water for two days. Then this happened:

> WELLINGTON, New Zealand - A scuba diver rescued after drifting in open sea for more than 72 hours said Thursday that he wouldn’t have survived much longer.
>
> “Honestly with the hallucinations that I had, especially yesterday, I don’t think I would have made last night,” Robert Hewitt, 38, told a radio network from his Wellington Hospital bed.
>
> The former New Zealand navy diver said he began hallucinating toward the end of his ordeal, after three days without drinking water and only a crawfish and four kina, a type of sea urchin, as food from his dive bag.

> “With the navy training you receive. . . you don’t panic, you don’t try to swim against any currents, you just go with it, you know that you can survive without food for a very long time, it’s just that water factor and he seemed to get by without water for those three days.”

…absolutely incredible story…

:smack:

I thought you were serious.

Interesting story **Banquet Bear**. Two days _is_ a long time to tread water. It’s believable, however. Magnum was in tip-top shape and was a former Navy SEAL. If anyone could do it, he could.

_“Herman…No! Go away Herman!”_

Great, great episode.
Hey, I have one more question for you guys:

**What are some of the “fantasy” episodes?** I remember _Flashback_, where Magnum is transported back to the 1930s(?), and I remember the “Indiana Jones” episode (_Legend of the Lost Art_(?)). I know there were a few more, what are they?

Thanks

When we watched the show with my grandmother (who was a huge fan - she had a lifesized poster of Selleck in her bathroom, which startled me everytime I walked in there) we always counted how many times he took off his shirt. If she had been a drinking woman, I’m sure she would have made it into a drinking game.

Cha! I just noticed that hidden in that site, in an area seperate from the linked photo, are two super cool **Robin’s Nest** photo albums! One from [ground level](http://www.pbase.com/goislands/2002_10_02_mpi_estate), and one from [above](http://www.pbase.com/goislands/2002_10_01_flight_mpi)! There are some really, really good pics in there! Apparently, the beach and surf in front of Robin’s Nest (aka “The Anderson Estate”) is open to the public. One guy commented that he reenacted the opening scene of the pilot, while his SO filmed. I must do that before I die. 😉

It’s a shame that the property is in such disarray, however. ☹

Nope, sadly, it was just the standard one with him in a Hawaiian shirt.

> How about the fact that _Quantum Leap_ was going to do a crossover, with Sam leaping into Magnum? Apparently the plans were canceled when a Magnum P.I. movie started development, but they did film the “leaping in” (oh boy) bit.

the plans were cancelled when Tom Sellack refused to release the rights to his likeness (for when Sam looked in the mirror, even tho the character of Thomas Magnum was the propertly of Donald Bellasario’s production company (the producers of Quantum Leap)
