Costumers on Star Trek loved small-titted women. It made it so much easier to fit them into weird costumes. Imagine having to engineer the gown in “Who Mourns For Adonis?” if Leslie Parrish had been rockin’ the boobies.

Stupid question, did they have implants back then? Or do you mean augmented by the costume and industrial sized 60s bras?

Modern implants have been around since the 1950s, but I don’t think it was very common for actresses yet in the late 1960s.

Hollywood has, even in the '60s amazing ability to stuff, pad, or enhance the apparent size of breasts.

Posture, camera angles, composition, makeup, and costumes all can add or subtract to the size.

Whenever I think of that episode, I think of the practical joke that was mentioned in _The Making of Star Trek_. Roddenberry had been repeatedly bothered by an insurance salesman who wanted to meet with him. They got Ted Cassidy in his full Ruk makeup and costume ([Ruk | Memory Alpha | Fandom](http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Ruk)) to sit in Roddenberry’s office and then a secretary asked the insurance salesman to step in, pretending that it actually was Roddenberry behind the desk. The agent was a bit taken aback for a moment, but then launched into his sales spiel. Cassidy sat there, saying, “Yes,” “Hmmm,” and “I see” as the agent did his best to sell the damned insurance. Roddenberry and the others, busting a gut quietly laughing outside, finally came in and explained the gag.

I have wondered about this vis a vis another Trek girl, Teri Garr. In the ep. in question (“Assignment: Earth”), she very clearly is an A-cup, but fast forward to Young Frankenstein 5 years later and she is definitely a C (which is the point of at least one gag). Nothing I’ve read indicates that she went under the knife, but I could be wrong.

Here are some screen caps of [Majel Barrett in a 1958 movie](http://www.blujay.com/item/As-Young-As-We-Are-1958-On-DVD-Majel-Barrett-Very-Rare-12010700-3817021). So there was something to work with.

As for Terri Garr, check out these clips of her when she was an [unbilled dancer](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gfXI9nMsqE). I think the difference between these and \*Young Frankenstein \*can be summed up as “push-up bra.”

I didn’t know that, I thought they were developed (heh) in the late 70s. I base this on that movie on cable with Ross from Friends (pretty solid research on my part).

She had at least one topless scene at some point a bit after “Young Frankenstein”, and she was still packing an A-cup.

Just costuming for YF.

That movie spanned several decades. I believe the first part was set in the '50s.

2 scenes, actually, in FF Coppola’s [One From the Heart](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084445/).

Huh. I don’t remember them being that big. And the pic I found when I googled was from the front. Maybe I’m thinking of some other scantily clad female.

If one were so inclined, one could google “Teri Garr Naked” and click on the link labled _[celebritymoviearchive.com](http://celebritymoviearchive.com)_. \*\*WARNING. \*\*That link is safe for your computer. I won’t vouch for any other link brough up in the Google search.

They have three still pics from that movie and you can make up your own mind. She was an A or B.

Here’s the thing - they shot the show on 35mm film, but showed on TV. That capture is obviously from an HD transfer of the 35mm film, with a level of detail that never would have been visible on standard definition television of the time. Not even the editor of that episode would have seen her aureole, as he would have been cutting a work print on a Moviola or KEM, looking at a small screen. Who knows if they ever viewed the whole episode in a screening room until the film was transmitted on TV?

It wasn’t insurance the guy was selling, it was custom-made suits.

I’d love to have been a fly on the wall that day, because Cassidy was apparently playing part to the hilt, cigar in one hand, phone pressed to his ear as he’s standing behind his desk ("Look, babe, I need another three thousand in the effects budget or the _Enterprise_ ain’t gonna fly, _capisce?"_ To salesman: “Young man, I’ll take care of you in just one minute.”)

Another great story about that episode is Sherry Jackson, who wore _that_ outfit, going to the commissary with Bill Shatner for lunch. She had requested a bathrobe to cover up the costume, but right before she went into the commissary, she drops the robe and makes a _legendary_ entrance. 🙂
