My hairdresser recently got lash extensions and at first, I thought she was wearing false lashes (which is odd, because she would normally never do that). Then she started raving about how amazing the extensions are and I have to admit, it really did look AMAZING.

I work in ophthalmology. Latisse is also an eye drop for glaucoma (called Lumigan), but in cosmetic form it’s prescribed in little tubes with thin brushes to apply on the lid side of the lash line. It may cause brown pigmentation of the iris - more likely if it gets into the eye proper, I think - which does not reverse itself, but I have a coworker who’s been using the drops for her glaucoma for years, and hasn’t lost her blue irises. (She also hasn’t noticed any better lashes, for what that’s worth.) Unfortunately the lash growth effect is temporary, and when you stop using the drug, the lashes won’t grow longer, and then as the lashes replace themselves they go back to normal length. So you’ll need to stay on this prescription medication for as long as you want your lashes to be longer.

I’m interested in lip products, especially long-lasting color. I’ve used a number of lip stains, and the problem I have is that the color is never as dark on my upper lip as it is on my lower. My lower lip seems a little darker naturally than the upper is, anyway, and it seems like the upper lip just doesn’t “take” stain color as well as the lower, either. They’re also usually pretty sticky and tend to stay that way for a while. I’ve tried:

  • theBalm’s Stainiac
  • Vincent Longo’s Lip/Cheek Gel Stain
  • MAC’s See Thru Lip Color
  • Urban Decay’s Lip Envy

I’m a big fan of Vincent Longo’s lipstain lipstick, which goes on like a regular lipstick, is long wearing, and has a staining component so even if it starts to wear, it still provides a lot of color. However, it’s no longer carried at Sephora. :frowning: Any recommendations for a Sephora-carried or MAC product that’s similar? I’m not fond of high-gloss products or anything that needs a lot of maintenance.

I also have hazel eyes. I didn’t know that. It would not be a big deal if you already have brown eyes. I think I’ll try the fake ones. It does not look too difficult to put them on.

I am still amazed at ‘The Queen of Blending’. She is really artistic in her videos doing different colors.

Is it me or is she high as a kite in this video?

Is She high?

She really is totally artistic- great eye for colors, light hand, beautiful technique- just great.

I don’t think she’s high in the scandalous sense there. She seems to get colds a lot, so I’d be willing to bet she’s probably on some cold medicine or something.

Okay, I just spent like 40 minutes watching that Panacea girl’s videos. Then I read her wiki page, and decided I think she’s kinda cool. The name QueenofBlending makes me giggle, and I’m glad that she’s brown skinned. Even though she’s a bit lighter than I am, we can still get away with a lot of the same colors. I’ve seen a few make up tutorials that tell me to do things like use a little bit of rouge, or pink lip stain to look natural. Uhh… yeah.

And long eyelashes are overrated, especially if you were glasses. You pretty much have lash goo on your lenses all day, and are constantly cleaning them.

I know exactly what you mean. I spent my entire teenhood buying Latina Magazine because no other makeup tips would come even remotely close to matching my very much southern Italian, dark (especially for a white girl) skin tone. QueenOfBlending really is just a beautiful girl all around, but like you said, it’s extra awesome that she shows that non pale folks can look fabulous, too. AND rock color in a not washed out way.

She looks awesome in yellow eye shadow , a color I would never attempt. She is more like an artist. I went to her video, ‘All my looks’ and she is incredibly talented. The way she matched outfits with her eyes shadow. Unreal! I don’t want to be Lady Ga Ga but edgy in a hip way.

I also checked out Vincent Longo’s page and loved that look for me. I just have never tried painting my lips. It looks so much better when applying it with a brush. I admit I don’t even own a lip brush but I am going to get some.

I have always been a person that was ahead of her time as far as fashion and bags and hair on a budget. Someone has to take make a bold statement especially where I live and everyone is 10 years behind the times. I need to get with the program and step out a bit with some good makeup. Blend ,blend, blend.

Thanks for the ideas.

See, I need somebody pale like a drowned thing to show me how to do this stuff. It seems like I always get a gorgeous Nubian queen at the makeup counter, and her makeup is absolutely flawless but I can’t extrapolate it to me, and of course the makeup girls love makeup so their idea of the right amount of makeup always looks too much for me on me to me, and I can’t look at the girl and get an idea of how it’s supposed to look on somebody else’s face. If that makes sense.

Yeah, I’m super-pale, to the point where now with my red hair, everyone thinks it’s natural and that I’m Irish. :smack: Diosa posted some videos by Kandee; the natural/neutral look with MAC cosmetics video has her in a not-too-tan phase. She tends to put on bronzer as an all-over base, from what I’ve been seeing in her videos, so she’s a little more pale but not quite ivory like us.

Can I be catty for a minute? Can I ? Can I?

THAT is her natural/neutral look?!?!? Yikes! That’s the amount of eye makeup I’d wear if I was going out clubbing and wanted my eyes to look dramatic. Holy crap!

Also, her eyebrows are SEVERE! Like, woah!

/catty
She does a good job of explaining things, though. And she’s as cute as can be!

Shit, I’m catty too then, because I was thinking the same thing. Super cute girl, but that’s not a look I’d go into the office with.

Yikes. And I thought I sometimes went heavy on the eyeliner.

Yeah, with the liner I was going “Srsly? That many layers?” She’s a makeup artist so I think her standards are a bit whoa.

Her fast morning makeup wasn’t bad.

Well, I suppose it depends on what kind of office you work in. For example, I’m a librarian, so I can’t be wearing all that slap. If you happened to be, say, the more inexpensive sort of prostitute, and it was payday, on the other hand…

I liked her concealing dark circles under the eyes, but what are those large “color palettes” she’s referring to? I thought I saw a glimpse of a logo but missed what it was. Is that a cream concealer selection or something? I think I heard her say RCNA palette?

Dunno about her “natural” look, but for the fast morning one, I work in a medical center, and probably half my female coworkers put on more eye makeup than that look has. (The other half wear no makeup.)

Really? I’ve worked in hospitals/medical centers for most of my adult life and I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anyone wear more makeup than that. In Las Vegas, even!

Heh, that’s about six times the amount of makeup I wear when I’m really making myself up to go out. Of course, I’m makeup impaired and even if I looked great with all that on I’d think I looked like a complete clown. The people I work with have probably never, yet never, seen me wear makeup unless they were at my job interview.

I’m usually one of the “no makeup” people. And we’re not working on the floor or anything, I mean desk staff, etc. in clinics.

It’s a sign of my age, i guess that I find it bizarre that people film themselves putting on makeup and then put the video on youtube. (I also find it weird that people film themselves playing video games and put that on youtube. I think I just don’t get youtube).
