Way back in the 1970s, a couple of my profs at Washington State University were developing a new systems programming language. The name of the language was SESPOOL - Simple Extensible Systems PrOgramming Oriented Language. From what they said, the grad students they had working on the project came up with the name, probably in retaliation for not being given any other decision making authority on the project. Bacronyms are found in the names of space probes: MESSENGER - MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry, and Ranging INSIGHT - Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport There’s others for individual instuments on space probes, although I can’t remember any specific ones off hand.
