We have a juvenile crow out there. Its plumage is fluffier and lighter than the adults, and its call is higher. It’s having trouble with the peanuts, but its mom opens them and feeds them to it. 🙂 ---

Am I the only one on the opposite side here? I can’t stand the crows that have taken up residence in my yard. The days I’m working out of my home office I find myself dreaming up ways to get rid of them. They are annoyingly loud and tend to squawk(crow?, Not sure what one calls their incessant chatter) continuously. Love the sound of songbirds in the morning, but how anyone can be pleased by what comes out of the crows. Quite a few times I’ve found my way to various sporting websites checking out pellet guns. Before you start with the throwback; A. I am aware of the relevant hunting laws in my local jurisdiction and B. I really couldn’t kill anything just because it annoys me. ---

I have a crow who has learned to come to my door for Cheeto treats–I don’t even eat them myself; I just keep a bag by the door. I was hoping to train him (or her) to finger feed, but he remains wary and won’t come closer than about three feet. Years ago I had a scrub jay who became tame enough to land in my hand for peanuts after only a few days of handouts. ---

Crows have really moved into our neighborhood in the last couple of years. I just realized the other day that I haven’t heard a robin or a starling or a chickadee or even a pigeon in a long time. The explanation was obvious - the crows are raiding their nests and eating the eggs and fledglings. ---

We have chickadees and robins in addition to crows. Doves to, I think. ---

We had a crow come around and steal chicken eggs. He’d hover around the yard, pissing off the dogs, then steal an egg and fly off. Then a second one showed up. And a third. One day, I’m outside, and I see this bastard and he flies behind me and I turn to see about 10 of the bastards! Well, I sent them a message, and I sure as hell wasn’t trying to make friends! We have since come “to an understanding”, and I haven’t seen them since. Beautiful, charming, horrible, noble creatures. ---

Way back when, I used to work in a building with a balcony on the second floor. I liked to eat my lunch out there and read. A crow started hanging out on the railing and I’d give him my leftover lunch. He managed to figure out what days I usually worked, because he was always there when I was supposed to be there, but if I covered someone else on my off days, he wouldn’t be waiting. It was rather amusing when he did show up belatedly for his share of my lunch. He always had a “what the heck are you doing here?” attitude. ---
