As a long-term fan of wooden-navy fiction, I have to disagree. A **carillon** is a short-barrelled cannon sometimes nicknamed “The Smasher” as, although it was short-ranged, it could fire very heavy shot for its size. HMS Glatton carried nothing else and was devastating at short range! ---

OK, I guess what you describe could fall into the broad category of **serenade** , but it doesn’t have to be a song. It really refers to any kind of happy surprise – a good thing that you stumble upon while not really searching for it. ---
