# Malaria Question

I just learned that one of my daughter’s classmates has malaria. Does this pose a realistic threat to my daughter or her other classmates?

Malaria is blood borne. At this time of year, there should be no danger, at all. Once the warm weather comes, you shouldn’t need to worry unless Boston has a population of _anopheles_ mosquitos. (Not all species of mosquitos are carriers.)

Beyond that, I would think your local health department could give you a clearer picture. (I suspect that a child that was a threat to other kids would be prevented from enrollment.)
