It is a false equivalence. But your characterization of the counterexample as “some dude” is no more accurate.
There’s a somewhat harsh blasphemy law which has just got a new set of teeth to persecute non muslims with.
From what I understand (from a friend who works there) things are pretty OK for Hindus and Christians in Malaysia (and presumably other religions). They aren’t held to Muslim standards of personal behaviour, etc. with a few exceptions. Its the Malay Muslims who suffer from restrictive personal laws, and especially those Muslims who wish to convert.
