I have a creative-exercise suggestion. If you are a man, have a thought before you post: “would I say this to an audience composed entirely of grown up women?” Just as a counterbalance to what appears to be the prevailing assumption by men here, that they are talking to men and men alone. By the way, I believe implementing this would even have a dampening effect even on questions which purport to be TO women, in the vein of “what does an orgasm feel like” because some may be beneficially daunted by asking this of a crowd of unamused women who have a perfectly clear idea of why one might be asking it. ---

I don’t believe men talking about Ginger or Marry Ann is misogynistic. However, I think it would be rude to have this conversation in the presence of people who are uncomfortable with these conversations. Heck, I’ve been in the presence of women who talk about the “fine” ass of a coworker, or how they’d like to drink John Hardy’s bath water. It felt awkward, I can understand why others wouldn’t want to be in the room when that was going on. But at no time did I ever think these ladies were being degrading towards men. ---

I am not sure how well-explained it was, but it was my true feelings. I know this misogyny is the concern, here. To get new members and more women, they need to feel safe here. I am an adult, I don’t mind some sexual talk, as long as it is not degrading and hurtful, to anyone. And as long as I know the thread has content of a sexual nature, I wouldn’t mind. I don’t think anyone would. Come on, guys. ---

Do you believe your initial reception here had anything to do with you being a woman? For myself, I don’t. On the other hand, I think you’re right that it’s too easy for new posters here to get off on the wrong foot and be treated badly as a result. That cultural behavior seems to me to both contribute to and stem directly from that troll thread. But that’s surely a topic for a different pit discussion. ---
