Malware on SanDisk, PNY thumbdrives - alternatives?

HOW???

I HATE AUTORUN!!!

Every time I put in a cd or flashdrive, my computer gets hijacked by a program that looks all over the disk, trying to figure out which default program to run. Then, when it finally decides that my data is too varied, a dialog asks me “This disk or device contains more than one type of content. What do you want Windows to do?” Duh, I know what is on it, and sometimes the program I want isn’t even on its list. Sometimes, I don’t even want to do anything, I simply put the disk in to use later.

Is there really a way to turn this off, for all cds and devices, permanently? Please tell!

An article on turning off autorun.

I recommend getting teak UI if you have windows XP. See above link for instruction on how to get it.

>prohibition wasn’t against use of technology nor contact with the English
>prohibition was against dependence on something or someone from outside of their community

Well, I’m not being very precise, but I always understood the prohibition was against dependence or too-frequent interaction with people outside their community, which would mean the “English” (those of us living near them). I think what constitutes dependence or too-frequent interaction (two related things) is up to their elders to keep deciding and adjusting as time goes by. So, it’s sort of either of the things above, depending on how you judge it and how their elders currently feel about it. But they are more anti-English than anti-technology. Though to the extent technology has a gradually encroaching effect of making us all more interdependent, they’d also be anti-technology. At least this is how I understand it. But if they’re your neighbors, they’ll be asking for rides and for permission to use your phone pretty often - and then paying you back in various ways, perhaps.

I just did the U3 uninstall in my PNY drive by following the instructions, and it worked. It took about 1/10 the time going back to the store would have taken. Still, this is having the odd effect of making ME feel a little anti-technology.
