What would have been actually funny is to take a movie with paid actors in it and edit it so it looked like they were reacting to him. Then he would just have to face the owner of the media in court and leave the rest of us out of it. This is a reasonable take. If Kevin Smith or Sarah Silverman do this in a scripted way, they’re OK. This guy’s distinguishing offense, I would suppose, is in exploiting video collected under false pretenses, not in putting offensive language with schoolkids for laughs. But I’m not convinced that’s criminal, even if it is civilly actionable. Then again, maybe I’m wrong, and Sarah Silverman (who’s done this sort of thing herself) needs to stay away from Michigan. ---

I wonder if any of the parents came to his defense. If my kid was in that class (not that I have a kid, but I do have nieces) I would’ve volunteered to testify on his behalf at the sentencing. ---

How does that add up to losing two years of his life? It sucks that he is going to jail for 60 days. He should never have been charged as he was. However, the hyperbole that his life is over neglects his view which is remarkably measured. You should watch the interview. He admits he was thoughtless, and was very much aware that the charges were bogus, but made a calculated decision to accept the plea bargain as a way of ending this without going to prison.
