# Man claims he can survive without food & water?!?

I know what you’re thinking and I’m very skeptical too…

But, I read [it](http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/3236118.stm) at the BBC, and I generally don’t think of them as tabloid, unless someone can substantially correct that perception. Besides the BBC, according to Google, several other “established” papers are [reporting](http://news.google.com/news?q=prahlad+jani&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&safe=off&filter=0) it.

This guy, Prahlad Jani, claims to be able to survive without ingesting food or water for literally decades. According to [Sydney Morning Herald](http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/11/24/1069522519351.html), the figure is 68 years of fasting.

What’s the Straight Dope, people, especially meds?
